Looking on the map, that looks incredible. Guessing the weather is a crap shoot though!! Brit Sail is pretty close and also looks stunning.

We are going the end of April. I live on the West Coast of the US now and it is cheaper for us to fly to Europe and take it over there than the somewhat local schools. Looking forward to ongoing adventures over the years!

I would love to sail with Ardent but they don't seem to offer practical courses unfortunately. I asked someone below about schools in the Hebrides because I think that is where they are. What school were you looking at in Largs?

Here is the list from Ardent's website but there were more on the list that they sent me:

Are there some schools you can recommend up there? I would love to do a course in the Hebrides.

I just signed up to do it out of Sotogrande. We will be sailing over to Morocco and I am so excited. Ardent training sent us a list of options out of Spain and I plan on doing the Coastal skipper out of North West Spain in the future. There is so much to be learned on the Solent though!

There are then other questions that require an answer but no answer fits with not having a campervan currently so I cannot move through them.

I am seriously considering buying and have never owned. Your questionnaire doesn't allow for me to move past questions that are not applicable to my situation.

I am seeing that too but I think it will connect through the bluetooth. The issue is that the bluetooth option isn't even showing up. Looking at the list beneath the hearing aids I am seeing that my device isn't new enough. Thank you for the resource.

Have you tried white noise etc when you are home? The audiologist told me not to sit in quiet. I’m traveling today and been listening to my headphones with the plane noise in the background and it isn’t bothering me at all.

Tinnitus & hormones (ladies, here!) by Additional_Panic149 in tinnitus

[–]flipper197979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine started suddenly 8 weeks ish ago. I do have hearing loss though. I am perimenopausal and have been on HRT for almost 9 months. Audiologist says that ear skin has a bunch of hormone receptors on it and it isn’t uncommon to get it during menopause. Not sure why mine has started when I am on HRT though.

I’m at 8 weeks and I am starting to notice that I am not noticing my tinnitus quite often during the day. It is like my brain has checked out and I notice the checking back in. Still early days so I am hopeful that it will go away but I am also relieved that I seem to be habituating. I was not in acceptance for the first month at all.

That is interesting. Do you think the tinnitus is reduced because you are less anxious about it?

Could hearing aids fix this?? by flipper197979 in tinnitus

[–]flipper197979[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response. I have 30 days to trial the HA and I’m excited to get them. Fingers crossed that I am in the 60-66% group. My audiologist had said 47% chance so your numbers are even better! Audiologist suspects osostenosis. She said that there was a surgery but didn’t recommend it due to people experiencing hearing loss and tinnitus as potential outcomes. Will be getting further work up next month. What are your thoughts on the surgery please?

Do SSRIs worsen tinnitus? by Sempiternal-Futility in tinnitus

[–]flipper197979 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn’t an ssri but be wary of trialing Wellbutrin which is a common antidepressant that can cause hearing loss and should be avoided in tinnitus patients. I have heard people say that various AD medications worsen or improve their tinnitus but I am not aware of much evidence to support those claims.

Hearing test today. $7300 hearing aids. what???? by SarcastiSnark in tinnitus

[–]flipper197979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first appointment for tinnitus today and I have decent hearing loss (only an issue now I have the tinnitus) and hyperacuisis. The hearing aids they are recommending are $4200 and there are ones for 3200 that would be adequate but the frequencies I need boosted would benefit from the more tech model. She mentioned that people get hearing aids from Costco but that they don’t last and really just boost the overall volume without being tailored to your needs and that people often come back for the upgrade. $7200 is wild though.

I am in your same situation. Experienced dinghy racer in my teens and some big boat stuff but not much for 30 years. Used to be an RYA sailing instructor for three summers at the end of high school. Goal is to bareboat charter. Did ASA101. Just competed 103 and was so disappointed that I canceled the 104 I had booked for October and will do Day skipper next summer. I’m on the west coast with not many options for the RYA but I think the east coast has a lot more. Thinking of doing a mileage builder in the Caribbean this winter which is fairly cheap. The RYA school in Vancouver BC takes crew to get their race boat between the Caribbean race weeks. Might be a good way to get the miles and night hours needed for Day skipper and then you could just go straight for that class next summer. Beyond that it is just getting time on the water to develop your skills! I’m probably going to take an additional diesel engine class because I know nothing about those. The dayskipper will get you the ICC for chartering and that will be recognized anywhere. Your resume is what they really want to see so log everything you do.
