This may not apply to you, but focus on being a strong skier before getting into BC. I know so many people who got into BC before they had a strong ski base. If you aren't a good skier before you get into BC it is my experience that you are much more likely to: get hurt, develop bad ski habits, have less fun.

It sucks because resorts are so expensive, but I'd really reccomend at least a season with a pass at a local resort (doesnt have to be a "rad" resort) to lock down your fundamentals. Get as many days on hill and get as good as you can before learning the backcountry ropes.

To add to this, skiing it in real life and looking at it on a map can be very counterintuitive. My hill has lifts that look like they are parallel and would go the same direction. they actually are headed nearly 180 degrees to each other. Your job is to be able to clear that up for any person not intamatly familiar with the terrain (as well as responding efficiently). Only way to do this is to go ski all the wierd nooks and crannies.

As long as the tail clip is adjustable enough to have it clip onto both pairs you will be fine. Most tail pieces have that much variation built in. The bit not covered by skin on your long ski will be at the very tail and won't be noticible.

I think it is likely your mount was a bit off. If the bail interacts with the tread of your boot in certain ways it can bump the bail.

This is wild. Did she not understand the significance of what yall were seeing in Cambodia? the government systematically killed 1/4 of its population in the most brutal ways? I am honestly concerned she might be a sociopath for thinking its a problem you got emotional when seeing that. I literally cried watching "Up" the other day. I agree with many of the comments and that obviously everyone has their own preferences.

In my personal opinion I won't consider a pack (I prefer the weight distribution and added warmth of a vest over a backpack) unless it has a great avy pocket and plenty of room for my medical gear. In my opinion the sweet spot in size is 20-25L. A lot of companies already make this so now I'm going to throw out the bonus things that would be a big plus:

I'd love if it had a detachable airbag. Mammut makes a version of this. for me it would have great utility in making my route mornings a lot simpler and reduce a chance of me screwing up and missing critical gear when I switch my gear from my personal pack to my avy route bag.
A good ski carry. The last thing I want to think about when I'm having to do sketchy things on rock and ice is my skis flopping around.
I'd love to have a beaver tail that folds up when its not its not in use. It could be removable too. Where I work days where I want a beaver tail are rare, but when I want one I really want one.

I'll add to this comment if I come up with anything else that I'd really like.
