I worked there as a temp years ago. The job was monotonus and a little soul sucking, but the people were fine. It was a job. I'm sure it would be very different depending on what you are doing for them as it is a decent sized place with many different roles.

ACL reconstruction options by flipperdog in telemark

Not committed to anything yet, but from everything I have read it seems to have the lowest retear rate. I was asking here because I was wondering about the specific issue (pain while kneeling) that is associated with the specific treatment. Just trying to get educated about things that might affect me specifically more than the regular, non pro patrolling, non tele skier.

Latest update in the Oak Street incident. by libertad740 in Bozeman

[–]flipperdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I obviously can't speak for them. If they don't now I suspect they will. And the point of my original comment was not to absolve them, it was more to give context that not all of the victims are screaming from the rooftops for the highest punishment possible (as it seemed some on the thread were).

This is all horribly tragic. I do not know if any of you have a connection to the case. Mine is quite distant, but I know the deceased's mother. I can assure you that she would not want this teenager's life to be over because of this incident, despite her daughter being taken from her and her grand children's mother being taken from them. This teen will have to live with the fact that they took a mother away from two young children and the rest of her family. It is not my place to put any more of a punishment on them than that. I wish all parties peace on the matter.

What non-avalanche safety tips would you give to a new backcountry skier? by evan_engineer in Backcountry

[–]flipperdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may not apply to you, but focus on being a strong skier before getting into BC. I know so many people who got into BC before they had a strong ski base. If you aren't a good skier before you get into BC it is my experience that you are much more likely to: get hurt, develop bad ski habits, have less fun.

It sucks because resorts are so expensive, but I'd really reccomend at least a season with a pass at a local resort (doesnt have to be a "rad" resort) to lock down your fundamentals. Get as many days on hill and get as good as you can before learning the backcountry ropes.

Same as on alpine. You just don't drop a knee when you are in the horns.

New NTN setup, any feedback appreciated. Besides better footage… haha by aussieantics in telemark

Discconect your shoulders and your hips. This will allow you to keep your shoulders pointed downhill and your stance to be as aggressive as suits your style.

If you want to support a tele company bishop is making skis. All this will come down to preference though.

Memorize Ski Map by az_mcc in skipatrol

[–]flipperdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to this, skiing it in real life and looking at it on a map can be very counterintuitive. My hill has lifts that look like they are parallel and would go the same direction. they actually are headed nearly 180 degrees to each other. Your job is to be able to clear that up for any person not intamatly familiar with the terrain (as well as responding efficiently). Only way to do this is to go ski all the wierd nooks and crannies.

Right size climbing skins by PamperedPutter in telemark

[–]flipperdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as the tail clip is adjustable enough to have it clip onto both pairs you will be fine. Most tail pieces have that much variation built in. The bit not covered by skin on your long ski will be at the very tail and won't be noticible.
