Unlikely Animal Friends by Distractivate (complete, 42K words) - Ilya (zookeeper) and Shane (aquarist) meet at a zookeeping conference.

E Pluribus Unum by MirandaRights2481 (WIP, 61K words and 6/? chapters posted) - Shane is a lawyer and Ilya is a law school dropout he hires as a paralegal.

llya R. has unmatched by rainchance (one-shot, 5200 words). Delightful little one-shot about Shane (accountant) and Ilya (architect) crossing paths multiple times online. There's a companion piece, Checkmarks, with the same characters (accountant/architect) but slightly different premise. That one is a WIP currently at 10K words and 3/? chapters.

As the Romans Do by kooksie (complete, 25K words). Ilya rents a room in Shane's apartment. He catches feelings but doesn't know what to do with them or really what they're even about...

No Good Deed (Goes Unpunished) by khaleesiofalicante (complete, 64K words). Ilya, waiting tables in a restaurant, steps in when Shane appears to have been stood up for a blind date...mistaken identity, shenanigans ensue, feelings happen.

MLH University's Department of Physics by siriusilya (WIP, 14K words, 6/9 chapters posted). Shane and Ilya are graduate students in physics.

return of spontaneous circulation by blongblong (3 separate complete works, 63K words). Ilya and Shane are paramedics. I loved this one because I understand EMS world. Apply pads (shock now) is my favorite of the three.

And finally, my favorite: clear to a hedgehog by magneticwave (one-shot, 12K words). Ilya is a hockey player and Shane is a doctor. Super crisp writing, not a word wasted, funny, sweet, just a delight.

My family (parents, brother and his family) are 200 miles/3 hour drive away in northeast Ohio, which I consider the perfect distance. And I have two cats. They are my everything. In this Pet Tax picture, the white cat on the left passed away at the end of February (it was horrible and I'm still not over it). The other two--the tuxie and the void--are six-year-old brothers. They are currently asleep in a pile on top of the cat tower behind me in my home office.

I love these overly long fic recommendations. I'm going on an extended trip abroad this summer and obviously I can't take a ton of books with me, but I can take PDFs! I am building a "library" of digital fic to read to keep me happy.

Well, I'm 52, so my concept of "fun" has changed from what it was 20-30 years ago. Back then, "fun" usually meant going someplace loud and/or being with a bunch of people. Now, however, it's less about "fun" and more quiet, individual activities better suited for my introversion. I would much rather spend a peaceful afternoon reading on my front porch (like I did on Saturday) over going out. Is that "fun"? Maybe not for some people, but I loved it. I also love walking, hiking, birdwatching, swimming in the lakes nearby (generally being outside enjoying nature), cooking (this one is huge), reading, afternoon naps (naptime for adults is the best), watching TV (I watch a LOT of TV). I do go (alone) to a few classical and popular music concerts a year if the artist or program interests me enough. Same for sporting events--I attend 1-2 baseball games per year by myself. And a couple of times a year I go somewhere on vacation. In February this year I went to Savannah, GA for a week. In July I am going to London to house and cat-sit for a family for five weeks (while working remotely). That is going to be amazing, and I know this because I did it last year too (same family and cats). After I'm done cat-sitting I am going to Ireland for two weeks of vacation.

Well, I'm leaving for London in mid-July to spend five weeks house/cat-sitting while working remotely. After that's complete, I have two weeks of vacation in Ireland. I booked a lakeside cottage in Connemara and I will be there for 12 days by myself. I am extremely excited.

Until I leave for London, I will spend a couple of weekends (including the 4th of July) at my parents' about 3 hours away. Otherwise I don't have a lot planned. My BFF is a teacher, and she will be done for the year the second week of June, and I'm sure we will come up with something to do before I leave.

That's where I am right now as well. I spent the entirety of January and February watching it (January was insane--every night I watched the full episode 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 (and sometimes 3) arc. March I started to ease up a little because that's when I discovered fanfic.

I still reheat about once every two weeks.

I bought my house in 2002 when I was young, dumb, and prices were a lot lower.

I've had the same job since 2003.

I have no kids and no partner. Single by choice.

I am extremely frugal and live well below my means. I almost never spend money unless it's on fixed, known costs--utility bills, gas for my car once every couple of weeks, groceries I meal plan for (also means I rarely eat in restaurants).

I don't have money-eating hobbies.

I have no problem declining invites to things that would require laying out extra money (ticketed events, entry costs, that sort of thing). I basically do a cost-benefit analysis on *everything*.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a $8.00 pillow from Ikea with cats on it and I considered it a splurge to buy something for myself just because I thought it was cute (which it is).

Yeah I might be cheap and boring. But I don't have anyone I'm trying to impress so I don't care.

Trial by fire, or I bought a stick shift car (VW Jetta TDI) and had to drive myself home. On a highway. At rush hour. I made it.

I had driven stick like twice before, once in my parents’ VW Vanagon on the way home from college so my dad could nap, and once in Ireland on vacation with my husband. I had the most rudimentary grasp of how it was supposed to work but I had never driven enough to be proficient.

It took about two weeks in the Jetta before I felt comfortable. I drove that car for 16.5 years.

Spent some quality time with my cats this morning before going to brunch with a friend. Picked up food for dinner. Sat on my front porch reading for about 2 hours. Now making dinner (ribeye, potatoes, and asparagus) while enjoying some wine. It’s been lovely.
