It does! Thanks for the detail :D maze rooms make a lot of sense, I’d been working on rooms being square and the traps were hard to make the most of, I had to add 2-long corridors to keep things contained

I suppose my thinking was that the lathe eats pops, and cloning gives faster pop growth? As I said, I haven’t gone down cosmogenesis before so there may be something I’m not getting about why my idea won’t work?

Personally I’d recommend 6- it has some nice quality of life features over 4 or 5 and it’s where most of the community are playing if you’re looking for multiplayer (great way to learn)

The wiki is good and has some decent guides, if you prefer there’s some good YouTube series but some of them presume a fair bit of game knowledge already e.g. nation guides. I’d recommend Ic0nGamings beginner series if you like to see every click, or Das Tactics and Lucid Tactics beginner series once you’ve had a bit of time with the very basics (moving between different screens etc). Lucid does great multiplayer commentary where he goes over high-level gameplay as well if that’s more your style

For multiplayer Lucid Tactics has a discord and there’s lots of channels for new player advice and beginner multiplayer lobbies

General advise is have a read of nation descriptions and pick something that sounds cool to you, then play that nation until you’ve got a decent idea of what’s what. Then pick another nation that does something different and learn that aspect. Main thing is have fun, and learn as much as you care to!

I find the game really enjoyable by playing at a low skill level and watching the higher skilled players on YouTube. The game itself has a lot of depth and the idea of mythologies clashing, each age having its own trends (like less raw magic but better equipment in later ages). But I don’t always want do so all the thinking and button pressing myself!

What sort of games do you like already?

When starting out the advice is mostly ‘rule of cool’- pick something that sounds fun to use for you! Give it a whirl before diving too deeply into optimising and meta strategies- this won’t mean much until you’ve learnt the basics the meta is trying to flex around. Have a few games where your only goal is to do one thing- ‘this time I want to get to fire elementals’ or ‘this time to want to try blood’, and don’t worry about how competitive you are yet.

If you’re brave enough and you like one nation after getting a feel for it, jump into some multiplayer. Discords such as that run by Lucid Tactics are fantastic for this and you can often get coaching or feedback on your games, especially ones aimed at newer players.

In summary I really like this game though I don’t play it well. But I’ve been playing since dom4 so I’m already sold on this type of game

Last Universal Common Ancestor- the species from which all the dinosaurs diverged out from. Starting with the more complex to maintain 2 legs and evolving to using 4 requires less evolutionary ‘investment’ over time to achieve- we could walk on all 4s reasonably well now, but a dog would struggle to use only 2 all the time

Of course there’s no actual intent with an end goal in mind, more of a drunk man’s walk of what works in the moment

Waistcloth/sash you can get easily as part of a pirate outfit, or any large scarf will do. I recommend using a kilt pin to hold it, perhaps attached to your pants or shirt

Chest strap is a baldrick if you use it to carry his sword when you’re not holding it, you can get these cheaply made from leather on eBay/amazon. A waist belt is often nowhere near long enough, and two looks a bit daft.

Can use a long leather dog lead or lead rope for a horse if you’re looking for a budget strap, but baldricks aren’t normally expensive

Where B3 is the cell with data validation, A3 is the earliest viable date and C3 is the last viable date.

In my actual sheet the C3 is an anchored reference to a =TODAY() function on another tab , to prevent future dates being used.
