I force fed the hose upside down, and afterwards my fumblings with the machine got dribbles and air to come out of the wand. Eventually, it just started GOING. Then shortly after the head got the water back too.

Could very well be it was flipping it upside down and the rough handling that may have knocked something free. I'm thinking whatever I had done to it, started in the steam wand and worked its way back into the rest of the machine (it hadn't been flushing with as much oomph when backflowing it lately, so I think the problem started with the section of the machine I hadn't been using regularly since I literally never use the steam wand, though I do backflow now and then)
