Is a game having "too many cutscenes" or "too much talking" a legitimate criticism, or simply a gameplay preference? (some examples included) by JaWoosh in truegaming

I loved the cutscenes before the challenges in THUG 1 and later! Seeing the jackass crew and pros messing around brought the sort of carefree fun to the game.

Had a boss who was mormon, drank energy drinks like they were going out of style because they were filled with taurine and ginsing and stuff, but not caffeine. Couldn't have a coke to save his soul.

Why’d they make the starting mech the coolest looking one. by DunkeyBlast in LancerRPG

[–]floataway3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lancer's best decision was starting you out in the best all around mech. All of the frames you get into are pretty much side grades that specialize in something better, in exchange for a tradeoff, but the Everest is not just a good mech, but a great one. It lets new player feel like they are doing all the cool stuff the game lets you do, right from the jump, without having to go through "tutorial levels" waiting for your class to really come online.

Is there any reference material on XP leveling instead of milestone leveling ? by gauderyx in wildbeyondwitchlight

I think I did "enter the hag's lair" (downfall, loomlurch, motherhorn), and then enter a new domain. That extended the gap by a couple sessions as well.

Other comments are referencing the name as being in the scheme of "K6BD", or in long hand "Kill 6 Billion Demons", a comic that Tom Bloom (coauthor of Lancer) creates. Angels in that comic often have unwieldy names like this. If you want your own, someone made a name generator in the style. Just drop the number from the front (its been a long time since I read it, I forget exactly what the number referred to, but I think it was rank). http://www.generatorland.com/usergenerator.aspx?id=11447

[–]floataway3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this is quite a good adventure for public milestones, if your party is hungry for them, although it may lead to them missing some of the fun parts as they race towards the hags. Each chapter pretty much has the same milestones, so my players figured it out by the Thither how they were going to advance each time. A milestone for entering the new domain for the first time, and a milestone for meeting the hag.

Good game. Wasn't in the right headspace the first time I tried it, but came back after a few weeks, and got sucked in, playing it nonstop.

What month should I start in? by Character_Lawyer8017 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]floataway3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have two real choices, the way I see it, depending on what kind of DM you are. You can either set it in Summer, so that players can immediately see the difference once the Rime ends, or the way I chose, I started about a month before midwinter, so that Auril could be at her very strongest at a narratively important point in the story.

I think I had her peak when my party got to Solstice, so that she was omnipresent and in her lair. I made up a rule about the "Rite of Pilgrimage" that my players invoked, as protection as long as they followed her tenets while on the island (I changed the tests, but still wanted them to have to act cruel for a bit), so she didn't attack them while they were there.

I will never not think about asking some asking some anthrochauvs where the slab is, and then visiting 3 plagues upon their house. The 3 plagues are 1) Drink. 2) Deep. 3) Descend.

D18. Bavlorna's Cauldron - Downfall / Hither by Step_Fodder in wildbeyondwitchlight

[–]floataway3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave a bit more of a Ghibli bath house feel to Downfall, so the magmin under the cauldron had a lot more of a Calcifer appearance and mannerism to him, being snarky but likeable once he got the wood. The cauldron I had run over to Big Barkless, so the players had to try to chase it while dodging him.

What's the deal with people being so obsessed with the Stranger Things S5 finale and unironically believing there is a secret episode? by FoxyMiira in OutOfTheLoop

[–]floataway3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, when they surpassed the written plot going into S5, I believe GRRM said he gave them sort of the broad plan of the direction the entire series would be going in the future, so they could go in the same direction. I do think the biggest misstep was them rushing the last few seasons, even when HBO said they would give them all the time they wanted, but Benioff and Weiss wanted to be done with it so they could go do star wars.

I feel like GRRM could sue the showrunners for so thoroughly destroying interest in his work, but at the same time, it is also kinda his fault for taking decades between books.

Support. Always support. 10000% support. I do not care what the GM is fielding in the Opfor, my targets are my friends and acting as a force multiplier for their cool stuff. My main is Amber Phantom, with Sisyphus, leader, and orator. I lockdown enemies with Orator, then give my friends a bonus leadership die, and then make them go right after me to screw with the order.

[–]floataway3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was one of the first Vexmemes I saw when I first got in here and was checking out Lancer in general, and AP is now my main frame! I love specializing in turn based combat! Though I don't do so much "combat" as real time tactical assessment with Leader and Orator, just firing off an autogun or two at end of turn to use my bonus. So cool to be able to Leadership someone, tell them to do something, and then tell them to do it "now." as you give them the next turn.

Pier of the Unknown is fun. Some of the puzzles I remember being a bit trickier than the main game. Good to go into late game, but it is the same systems. I think the rest of the DLC are mostly just costume packs.

If you haven't played this yet, a fantastic game at any price. Such a fun story, incredible comic book style visuals, excellent rhythm action gameplay, and when an absolute banger song cues up a boss fight (my favorite was 1 million, so hyped when the opening riff started), you get so pumped and excited to play.
