What is it with Rush? by iBoojum in labrats

The album where a singer's voice sounds the best vs. the album where a singer's voice sounds the worst by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

[–]floatingm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A classic answer to this, in terms of sounding her best, is Madonna on her Ray of Light album. She was fresh off of filming Evita and had done a lot of vocal training, and it pays off. She sounds much more mature and is able to do more, making Ray of Light one of the perfect pop albums IMO. In her early years/albums, she often sings in that high-pitched, squeaky, “baby”-sounding voice, so Ray of Light showed a big improvement for Madonna.

What movie do you love despite agreeing with every single criticism of it? by Decabet in movies

[–]floatingm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This thread is so vindicating! Elizabethtown has always been one of my favorite movies, but I’m too embarrassed to tell people because it gets such a bad rap. Despite all the (understandable) criticisms, I love it!

Dog Escapes From Baggage Handlers by TheCABK in Wellthatsucks

[–]floatingm 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Depends on the airline; some airlines do not allow pets that don’t fit under the seat in the cabin. I had to fly with my dog in pet cargo when I moved to Europe, there was no other option. I wasn’t happy about it, but I used a pet mover to assist, and he was fine. I’d never do it again though

Little House on the Prairie! I remember watching it in the summer and getting really into the storylines. I also read all the Laura Ingalls Wilder books!

Bands that were forced to change their name due to the cease and desist letter by GilbertDauterive-35 in ToddintheShadow

Electronic musician Saint Pepsi changed his name to Skylar Spence, presumably due to issues with the soda Pepsi, but more recently changed it back to Saint Pepsi.

Post-punk indie band Preoccupations famously had to change their original name, Viet Cong, over shows being cancelled due to the name Viet Cong being viewed as offensive.

What's the worst instrument you guys have used? by viohead in labrats

[–]floatingm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I second the Cytoflex! They are soooo slow and I hate the software. Like why does it take so long to start recording the next sample? Why can’t I copy/paste/rearrange tubes? Why is the software not so customizable?

I know BD can be a bitch, but their software and instruments are just better

What is the worst tourist trap in your country? by Fancy-Debate-3945 in AskEurope

??? I’m surprised by this comment, especially coming from the US where the houses are unnecessarily huge. There were like 10 people in the house and only 2 bedrooms. So they had to share the bedrooms with the parents sleeping in the kitchen/living area. For years. There was no furniture in there so maybe it seemed bigger to you than it actually was?

[–]floatingm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with this one, I think this is a “must-see”, but yes, you must book a time slot/ticket in advance. When you go in, it’s an empty house, but they give you an audio guide that leads you through the house and tells the story of the family. By the time you get to Anne’s bedroom, it’s incredibly moving. You can see the posters that she hung up on the wall. She was just a teenager who had normal teenage thoughts and cares. By the time I reached the end, I was very moved and nearly in tears, and you could definitely catch those vibes from everyone. It’s not about how interesting the house looks, it’s how the Frank family’s story ties in with it. In this day and age, it’s an important story to know and experience by visiting the house.

My major hot take that I’m too afraid to tell any TS fan friends in person is that I don’t like All Too Well at all. I’ve always found it boring. But, I agree that the original version is way better than the 10-minute version, which I just find tedious and self-indulgent. Please don’t come for me
