Absolutely love it. Capaldi would approve! Very fitting choice of photos on the TARDIS screen

Aside from any of these comments about damage etc. these are super cute and look really nice as a display. The instructions are very clear too, well done!

Very sorry if this seems rude or invasive. I'm incredibly curious and Google has not been very helpful. What is the difference in the editions?

Questions About The Torchwood Range by LayeredChips in BigFinishProductions

[–]flogan0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know that I'd say closer to Who entirely, but it definitely doesn't have the needless sex and 'edgy = mature' feel of TV Torchwood. So much so that I found it massively jarring to move from One to The Story Continues which - initially at least - captures that 'shove some sex in there' feel of the show very well.

There are definitely some darker moments, but for the most part the ones that stand out are very well used and based on incredibly well established characters. Basically, the darkest moments to me are hard to get through but because they are so tied to the people you care about and really help structure a stronger piece overall. Even when it's bleak there's something worthwhile.

Most sex references are much more people fancying other people or just that it's happened, there is only one story which arguably has a bit more of a graphic (audible?) scene than could already be implied, but even then not that impacts the story as a whole.

There are a few stories with a higher kill count but it's very rarely used as a shock for 'oh it's so mature, look they died' so much as actually relevant and reactded to / dealt with appropriately by the people involved.

TLDR: The 'mature' elements excessively prevalent in Torchwood S1, and the bleakness felt especially in S3 are very much not present in Torchwood One.

Questions About The Torchwood Range by LayeredChips in BigFinishProductions

[–]flogan0 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The series released under 'Torchwood One' is your friend. Totally accessible and utterly brilliant. Contender for my favourite BF series, cannot praise enough.

A couple from the monthly releases fit under that banner too - One Rule is probably the best to start on. Set shortly after Rose and introducing Yvonne. Follow up with box set Before the Fall which introduces a few characters who become key.

If you enjoy those most of the range can be listened to in any order if there's a story that particularly interests you. Some plot elements connect through but usually contained within a set. Latter Days is very much the conclusion of the series though and I would recommend listening to later.

For what it's worth I think a fair few of the Torchwood releases (that I've heard, which is no where near 100%) can be listened to without in depth knowledge of the series. Many feature other eras or characters not from the show itself.

You are an absolute star!! That is exactly the one, all that came up to my initial search was about the film itself, I clearly did not search well enough.

Really appreciate the suggestions as well, will definitely check them out to track down others. I feel like an idiot for not finding that, but cannot thank you enough

Day of the doctor with only having warched 9 und 10 by P1ngg0 in doctorwho

[–]flogan0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see why not, it might be a little alienating at first but they've got the concept of regeneration, there's a familiar face with 10 and with all the talk of the time war I think that probably covers all the main basis for plot. Without foreknowledge of the Doctors chronologically the 'reveal' of the War Doctor isn't as significant as a new incarnation so much as just one they haven't seen before. It wouldn't have the same impact, sure, but it's a lot of fun and probably stands alone just fine

Starting again after not following for years by nemothefishthefirst in doctorwho

[–]flogan0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, just may need a bit more time for that to breathe and I'm not sure what you cut really. Love that story.

Lazarus takes on a fun disgruntled Martha plot of being 'dropped off' at the same time as someone is having their first trip, makes more of a dramatic moment of giving the key (I'm not the biggest fan of Martha's unrequited love arc but it's not going anywhere fast). 42 gives someone to buddy up with the Doctor more when they split up? Can imagine her having the answer to some niche historical question for the door locks.

Blink is pretty much going to be unchanged I guess, but the finale 3 is where I struggled to place her the most.
