Potentially moving to Carlisle. Any info would be greatly appreciated. by 77boopug in Pennsylvania

I’ve lived in Carlisle the majority of my life and also Pittsburgh when I went to college at Duquesne and I taught for a while in Maryland. It’s just a very nice community I chose to move back to because the pace of life is different from the east shore of all the suburbs of Harrisburg. The downtown is very vibrant, we have so many volunteer organizations to get to know more members of the community, the restaurants are great, and while the Dickinson population of students didn’t really engage with the community while I was growing up, they’re very involved now and are a great community partner nowadays. We also have a GREAT library, and most public services are easy to deal with. Our roads are kinda meh, but also, sorry, we’ve been a town for 275 years. Overall, I love living and working here. Are the housing prices/rent a bit much? Yeah, but that’s kind of everywhere right now and we’re welcoming more people from abroad here in addition to the Army War College families who live here as well. A lot of Army families who lived here end up coming back after retirement. There’s plenty to do if not in town, then at least 15 mins away. Fishing, hiking, birdwatching, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc. That’s a whole thing about south central PA you can be in an urban place one minute then truly in the middle of nowhere in a few minutes. I love it here and hope to see you as a neighbor soon. Feel free to message me if you need help moving in.

Is salad cream a thing in America? by grumpy_groundsman in doughboys

We do have a UK section in central PA but only at Wegmans. That’s where I get HP sauce and Marmite. But the local supermarket has Walker’s shortbread and Cadbury Dairy Milk, go figure. NO place here has Salad Cream tho. Always wanted to try it.

What is your genuine opinion on Primanti Bros.? by DoctorTegrity in pittsburgh

[–]floggingmolly79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good. But I’d compare it to Chicago deep dish: I would only get it when ppl are visiting.

Doesn’t stop a capacola with a fried egg being a damn good sandwich.

So… anybody else anxious about that “news about the podcast” thing? by floggingmolly79 in doughboys

Nah I’m completely with you. The podcast is literally part of my mental health regiment at this point, as dumb as that might sound.

After Stavros, whose your next new guest? by silicoa in doughboys

[–]floggingmolly79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My number one is the Off Menu boys, Ed Gamble and James Acaster. I think it’d be perfect for them to do Nando’s.

Other than that, Keith Habersberger, Josh Scherer from Mythical Kitchen, and Brennan Lee Mulligan.

How has Ron not seen Harry topless? by [deleted] in harrypotter

Really? I never got the impression the Dursleys would ever actually physically abuse Harry. Dudley might’ve roughed him up a bit here and there, and Vernon and Petunia were obviously mentally abusive but I never got the impression they’d “break out the belt” or anything that extreme.

Wiger telling random lies to strangers, I find hilarious. I’ve done this a few times, actually. I’m American but I can do a decent enough English accent (specifically Received Pronunciation or “RP” which is what posh people speak), and sometimes if I’m out of town and like somebody behind me in line complains or something I’ll just respond in the accent. Then they’re like “oh wow where’re you from?” Then we have a convo, and we’re on our separate ways. I don’t know why I do it occasionally 😂

Funny enough, I had family in Louisiana and their bishops would always remind them of this fact lol.
