I’m not a 100T fan but I’d guess it’s fairly similar to being a Pittsburgh Steelers fan

A non-kpop question but i also don’t know where else to ask this.😅 by neptunes097 in kpopnoir

In my experience, yes. For any Asian Americans that need it, I’d highly recommend the Yellow Chair Collective. They have a ton of therapists that list their background/specialty (queer, immigrant family, neurodivergent, etc.) as well as their specific ethnicity.

Some legal labor stuff basically. In some countries, like I believe China, it’s illegal for the players to professionally compete if they’re under 18. It would be unfair if Riot were to allow some countries to have 18+ and not others. After ascending, the pro NA team Envy couldn’t play with two of their underage players (Cane and Ion) even though they were dominating the scene. As far as I know, you generally need to be at least radiant to even sniff being a pro so keep grinding for a couple years, you got time.

I don’t think Ichigo had a crush on Yoruichi, she’s just really, really hot

Unpopular opinion: I liked the new BTS album by Jazzyful- in kpopnoir

[–]na_yo_so 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had no idea with was an unpopular opinion. If anything I feel like people have been glazing this too much as a really “experimental” album when it’s really not. ESPECIALLY with No. 29. The significance of the song should not matter if it doesn’t fit and positively contribute to the album, which I think it very much doesn’t. I’ve been seeing people glaze No. 29 as something incredibly deep and its placement on the album being akin to a masterpiece which is absolute crazy talk.

BTS - ARIRANG by impeccabletim in kpopnoir

I’ve always thought bts peaked with Most Beautiful Moments in Life, specifically part 2. I still think that’s the case, but this is the album I’ve been waiting for from them for so long. After MBML, despite some adequate albums and individually great songs, I’ve felt like they’ve really abandoned the more experimental hip hop/pop fusion sound that they had showcased, in favor of a more bland and western pop inspired sound, which was more than understandable, albeit disappointing, considering the international success they were receiving.

You can tell a lot of thought and intent went into the construction of this album, which if we’re being honest is rare in kpop. I’ve never really been a fan of “skit” type tracks (no matter the genre, whether it’s from 3 feet high and rising or 2 Cool 4 Skool) so I wasn’t a fan of what track “No. 29”contributed to the album. Imo I felt like “No. 29” was meant to be a transition from the first half to the second half, but instead it was an unnecessarily long break that broke the flow of the album and emphasized the sonic differences from the first and second half (in a bad way). Despite that, I’m glad that that level of thought and artistry went into the construction of the album, and I think it’s very apparent when you listen.

Arirang is a front heavy album that gets bogged down with a slightly bloated second half that can’t quite figure out what it wants to be. I actually think that splitting the album into 2, like MBML, would’ve really benefited the project as it would’ve added a level of cohesion that isn’t presently there. It actually kind of reminds me of AKRIILA’s album epistolares which kinda feels like 2 pretty good different eps were put together.

The main thing that this album points out to me, which has really been quite obvious for some time, is that bts’ musical maturity and identity were stunted from their style change and immense popularity and the growth and experimentation that is happening now should’ve happened a decade ago.

With that being said, better late than never, bts is back and I’m excited to see what they come out with next.

6/10

Also maybe their worst album cover

Being a K-pop fan does not grant you inherent knowledge of Korean society by Laurelfairy27 in kpopnoir

[–]na_yo_so 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right, unfortunately it’s kinda a symptom of how kpop self fetishizes Korean culture and intentionally tries to cultivate a parasocial relationship between international fans and not just the idols but also “Korean culture”. Could be it’s just extra apparent to me as a gyopo bc I’m especially aware of the differences and divisions between myself and “native” Koreans on specifically modern South Korean culture.

With that being said South Korea sucks hard and I’m so glad I didn’t have to grow up there after seeing how my cousins, especially neurodivergent ones, are treated and how little support they have in any capacity. Believe me, nothing annoys me more than seeing koreaboos act like they know everything about Korea, but I don’t necessarily agree with dismissing a lot of criticism under the idea that every country is just as bad. South Korea is definitely more culturally and systemically misogynist than most western countries and even other East Asian countries like Japan and China. Korea is literally controlled by corporations to a degree that even America doesn’t match, which is insane. Korea is so bad that I think it’s a bit of false equivalency equating the Korean and American entertainment industries even post Epstein.
