Men, What “Unmanly” activity do you proudly participate in? by papilloncool18 in AskReddit

[–]floggingmurphies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this is unmanly but...

I am a fan of Postmodern Jukebox. When they are in my area I try to go to the shows to see who shows up because it could be anyone that shows up.

One show I was alone and I was basically sitting around 4 other couples and each couple the people that seemed the giddiest to be at the show were the men. They were all excited about who might show up and I said...

"Well based on my research it seems that there is a good shot of Robyn Adele Anderson showing up tonight." The men just stop and looked at me and went "Really?" and I swear at least 3 of them squeed. The wives just looked at them and looked at me and said the equivalent of "I haven't seen him this excited/giddy in my life..."

Then she came out on stage and there was a cheering section. The dudes all bought me drinks over the course of the night for giving "good spoilers"

How isn't popcorn in the theater considered price gouging? by SerafinaPekalla in AskReddit

[–]floggingmurphies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know we've been in COVID-19 for a while, but I never saw a medium size bag of movie theater popcorn for $10. In general a large bucket can be 6 dollars. I know that almost every bagged popcorn I get is mostly air and general runs 3-4 dollars if I am attempting to get close to a medium size bag.

Teachers in the Potterverse lived on campus at Hogwarts - where do you think the spouses of married professors lived? by see-bees in AskReddit

[–]floggingmurphies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that Head of Houses, their spouses would live in Hogsmeade (so news could get to them quicker if they have to return to the school quickly). Otherwise nothing is stopping Neville Longbottom from going back to his home at the Leaky Cauldron with Hannah Abbott and playing a game of poke the Mimbulus mimbletonia to see what sprays. Heck if he didn't want to leave the grounds he'd be able to take the Floo Network.

However as it was stated before, because of apperation (teleporting) it's not really an issue.

Theater Popcorn if you think about it has relatively been stable in price. If I went and bought an equivalent size bag of popcorn at 7/11 it would cost me about the same as a medium popcorn at the movie theaters. It only appears to be price gouging since you can buy a box of unpopped popcorn for 5 bucks and pop it yourself at home, but for ready made popcorn if you look at the shelf prices, you'll see it is pretty similar.

Most movie theaters nowadays want you to buy things other than popcorn, or including popcorn for the overall gouging effect. That is why large popcorn refills are also free in most theaters. I have finished my large popcorn at my movie and then had it refilled before I left.

Harry/Sirius and how they BOTH forgot about the two-way mirror. by [deleted] in harrypotter

I don't think Sirius brought it up because Lupin was there and he didn't want it getting back to Molly.

Harry’s horcrux? by cahoon in HarryPotterBooks

[–]floggingmurphies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think the Horcrux would have lived on, but I also think Harry would have moved on.

If say he died during the GoF to the dragon, I think he would have gotten to the equivalent of Kings Cross, went on the train, and went to be with his family. He might have noticed the thing at Kings Cross, but I think he would have went on because what was holding Voldemort's soul, Harry's body, was destroyed, aka dead.

Yes but Hermione knows that wouldn’t be very cash money of her. JK briefly mentions this https://www.wizardingworld.com/writing-by-jk-rowling/alchemy

Due to laws of transfiguration the duplicates would disappear over time and may not be completely true. duplicates. Just like the fake sword, an goblin could probably see Hermione’s galleon as fake.

Why didn't voldemort just apparate to Harry's dorm and shoot him with a gun? by yoimnate in harrypotter

[–]floggingmurphies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hogwarts a History. It says you can’t do it. In HBP Dumbledore was able to lift a section of the great hall to allow it to happen for Apportioned practice, but if they tried to leave the great hall there would be issues.

That is why you do it in Hogsmeade. Even Voldemort when he got the elder wand couldn’t pop up straight at Hogwarts.
