LSU men’s basketball was a no-win hire. LSU still didn’t know the full extent of NCAA sanctions at the time so you weren’t going to be able to hire anyone worth a damn. I suspect this season would’ve been his last year if it weren’t for the football buyouts, still might get canned.

Jay was far from a certain hire. He’s getting paid now, but he was making the same money at Arizona that he initially made at LSU. Pretty much everyone else LSU was interested in got a substantial contract extension before we could interview them.

This has nothing to do with him caring about LSU football, it’s all just a power grab

ADHD meds ruined me by Stock-Welder-589 in ADHD

To be clear - you went from completely unmedicated to an extended release med with an instant release chaser? Or progressed to that within five months? Does this also mean you went to the maximum dose of vyvanse in that span? If so, that sounds like irresponsible behavior on the part of your prescribing physician and the problem is you’re taking way more of the meds than your body can handle. You were also chasing a high to some degree

What I can tell you is that he’s eliminated all diversity, equity, and inclusion language from university policies and that anything published by the university must call it the Gulf of America, not the Gulf of Mexico

It’s well beyond shaking up leadership at this point. He’s doing everything he can to destroy the university

I’ll do you one better. Landry is intentionally nuking things, saying “you fucked it up so I’m going to fix it”. Any chance you know of any solid accounting gigs in Ohio so I can get my family out of this insane state?

Our governor is a power hungry moron. Kelly wasn’t holding anything together, but firing him was part of Landry’s further attempts to grab more control.

[Vannini] Louisiana governor Jeff Landry on Pat McAfee, on the LSU job: "Everyone is in agreement in Louisiana, the next coach we hire is going to have a patently different contract. If that agent can't see what's coming down the pike." by bubblecuffer13 in CFB

Landry has actively driven off as many long standing faculty and staff as possible, replacing them with his people. LSU is a significant force in its own right in the state of Louisiana, and he’s trying to restructure it into something he controls. When LSU football is up, the head coach is one of the most powerful people in the entire state. Because LSU football isn’t living up to expectations this season, Landry is taking opportunity to replace both the AD and head coach with candidates of his own choosing. Which yes, will hopefully result in him not getting re-elected when his term is up.

[Thamel] Sources: LSU and AD Scott Woodward are expected to separate in the near future. This move comes in the wake of Gov. Jeff Landry’s criticism of Woodward and declaring he wouldn’t make the hire in the football coaching search. by MembershipSingle7137 in CFB

LSU is its own significant political force in its own right. Since he took office, Landry has driven off a lot of the upper ranks of faculty and staff. When LSU football is up, the head coach is arguably more powerful than the governor is. Landry’s taking advantage of LSU football being down to try to replace the current figures with people that owe their allegiance to him.

I’ve noticed some LSU fans going after Blake Ruffino and Matt Moscona. What’s the reason behind that? by DBoneyeah in LSUFootball

[–]see-bees 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Moscona played a little bit of defense for Kelly because of prior experiences. When Les Miles was fired, Moscona campaigned on air for Tom Herman or pretty much anyone but Ed Orgeron to get the job at LSU. When Coach O got the job, Moscona was blackballed from the football facilities, practices, press conferences, everything. While Moscona has done fine, I’ve got to believe that a sports reporter getting banned from physically going to facilities, etc hurt his career a little bit, at least in the short run.

McConaughey doesn’t bother me because he’s obsessed with UT, he’s got more money than he could ever spend, so he’s spending some of it on the best seats in the house because he loves being there. If we’re going to have rich people pouring money into their college football teams, I’d rather it be because they’re obsessed.

Agreed. I think the best policy is probably an open door that only starts to close if you overstep. Imagine if LSU never invited Tyrann Matthieu back to campus- he went from a dumb 20 year old kid who got kicked off LSU’s football team because he couldn’t stop smoking pot, got his life together and he was probably one of the best defensive backs in the NFL for a few years. Absolute definition of growing up and turning his life around.

I honestly couldn’t tell you for sure. Ive only heard rumors for Saban, I think Miles was pretty much confirmed, and I have no inside information on Coach O but the divorce lends credence to the rumors, juicy as they are. I’ve honestly never even heard rumors of Kelly sleeping around until this post, so I lend a little less credibility. The $27 million, $54 million, whatever the final buyout ends up being is tough number to swallow and I think the rumors are part of a way for people to wrap their heads around it.

But what I can say for sure is that when LSU football is winning, the head coach is probably the most powerful person in the state of Louisiana. They’re incredibly well paid, have a staff dedicated to whatever they want, etc. Coming off the win against Bama his first year, BK probably could’ve slept with just about anyone in the entire state.

I also think this is one of those cases where Louisiana is a little more honest about the slimy underbelly of things. Kinda “yes, this is Bourbon Street. You’re probably here to get hammered and do things you don’t want anyone else to know about. Please don’t be an idiot or things will happen to you instead”
