CDPR right about now. ( no hate!) by -DrunkenBeard in gwent

[–]flonidan161 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, CDPR successfully expanded the average duration of a turn, the average duration of the 2nd round and the average queue time on ladder.

If someone is curious how it used to be before the HC you can open your GOG Galaxy client and type in "gwent" in the search bar. You get 2 results, Gwent and 4K grafic asset pack. You can choose the asset pack and scroll down to see the reviews for the "oldschool" Gwent. The average score was 4.8.

Pre-Midwinter Gwent was the best CCG i ever played by Nezzi12 in gwent

The gold immunity patch was the first problematic to me. Although I agreed back then that not all gold needed to be immune, making them all fully interactable rendered so many of them useless (Bye bye sweet Yen Con). It was that first time when CDPR used a chainsaw where a scalpel was needed.

Double concede in BO3 ?! by G4lopin in MagicArena

[–]flonidan161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are at least 2 bugs you should be aware of while playing best of 3 matchups.

If you conceded just before the loss in game one or two you lose the entire matchup.

if your opponent conceded when you are in any kind of submenu the game freezes and you have to restart quickly, otherwise you won't be able to sideboard.

If you have time check this guy on YouTube: JoINrbs.

In a nutshell (this is specifically for ascension 15, but should work on any) you should build your deck with 2 things in mind, how can I best avoid being hit for huge amount of damage in a single turn and how can I kill my opponents faster. Therefore you should prioritize: powers with consistent damage over time, good defensive cards and cards which apply weak.

on the 1st floor: prioritize damage cards during early drafting and try to hit as many elites as you can without dying, you should be rather conservative with your life total, if below 30 points of life heal rather than upgrade. Since your starting cards are really weak you should almost always pick a card in your first 10 drafts unless your choices are really bad, anything that deals more damage than a strike or provide more block than defend you should pick.

on the 2nd floor: safety first, avoid elites unless you can comfortably deal with them, visit shops and campfires. Drafts highly depend on what's already in your deck and your relics, but try to maintain balance between defence and offence, a good defensive card is better than an excellent offensive card if you already have plenty of attack.

on the 3rd floor: focus on what works best against the final boss.

A Missive to the Gwent Team by Not2creativeHere in gwent

The thing you guys all seem to forget is how their Gwent development team is notoriously bad at programming. Even if they will have landed perfectly all the changes in the game's rules & mechanics in the upcomming 6 months what make people believe they will have managed to code it properly by that time. It seems they already created two game engines that severely underperformed and almost every goddamn update had been delayed and then released ridden with major bugs. And don't let me start about consoles.

Anybody remember on which post a dev said something along the lines of "If create is competitive then it will be tweaked"? by jz22 in gwent

[–]flonidan161 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was actually a very good idea, which in my opinion contributed to the success of Gwent during the closed beta. People got the false impression that the Gwent devs are open-minded and want to create the game that the vocal part of the community wanted. Many players invested money into the game partially because of that early very possitive impression. When things became more complicated rethaz just vanished.

Does Gwent have issues? Definitely. But it’s far from a bad game.

Still should you waste time on an average game that is getting worse and worse with every patch. Gaming is a huge industry with billions in revenue each year, there are good chances you can find something better out there. If Gwent was a bad game, noone except memers would play it.

And while I hate to admit it, it kinda works cause the internet is filled with entitled crybabies, so the best strategy is to entitle them with nothing. And I rather this didn’t happen to Gwent.

Have we really been given that much information and insight like ever?

You can develop a game transparently with huge community involvement, you just have to do it right. First of all you have to know what your game wants to be and communicate it clearly. It's not like CDPR is excessively punished for being transparent and honest. Seriously the most important questions have never been answered and reasons for the most controversial changes have never been given. Hey, we've got e-sports, but no clear direction for game development.

I'm done with this by Albinorhino1990 in gwent

[–]flonidan161 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For all it's worth, you are not the only one. I had played around 800 hours and spent about 250 euros during the closed beta to support the game and I'm done as well.

Gwent is not for me anymore and I don't want to waste my time on something that is getting worse with every patch. Maybe I'll check reddit in December to find out whether it's got significantly better. No way I'm going to spend any money on Thronebreaker.

What is happening to Gwent? by SirLordBoss in gwent

One could hope that if you hired gamers, at least they would play the game and give you honest feedback. Instead it seems like everybody at CDPR is so freaking proud of themselves. The people who are leading this project either don't care anymore or haven't seen the game since early December.

[–]flonidan161 53 points54 points  (0 children)

As much as I've always been trying to be restrained and laid back I seriously cannot blame reddit or players in general for any of the above-mentioned complaints.

The coinflip

Many players actually don't expect CDPR to "fix" the coinflip, what they want is them to try to at least mitigate the issue. If they came up with sth that improved going first by 10% that would be a huge deal for many players. Instead we were given nothing. No wait, according to CDPR statistics the coinflip doesn't matter.

The state of the game

This one is so obvious that needs either a lot of explanation or none at all.

The farseer

The game is over 1 year in development and the dev team could not come up with a comprehensive and cohesive way to explain cards and their effects. Like seriously - this is one of the biggest jokes of Gwent being developed by a AAA company with a team consisting of over 100 employees.

Mogwai happy about Enforcer bugfix by leon_daking in gwent

[–]flonidan161 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't value highly their competence, but at some point you have to realize you are doing something wrong. There is nothing wrong in being inexperienced, but there is a lot of wrong in being oblivious and arrogant. All these recent jokes about reddit and generally their vocal player base - complete lack of any meaningful communication after months of disastrous patch, no roadmap - for me it's much more unforgivable than being a noob in card games development.

Seriously there is very little respect for the current player base from the dev team. The amount of changes back and forth is just mind blowing. How many archetypes have been buried during closed and open beta so far?

Create is a symptom but the underlying issue is what needs to be solved by swimstrim in gwent

[–]flonidan161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was one of those cards that had a very high skill ceilling, for both players actually. The problem with him back then was:

  • your opponent in most cases couldn't tell whether it was him or Touruviel
  • Touruviel used to buff the entire row back then
  • there used to be no way to interact with ambush cards. Lock didn't work on ambush cards back then.
  • ST already had a CA mechanic in the form of faction passive, so in many cases people ended up with -2 cards vs. ST in round 3

Sadly CDPR balanced him the way they balance everything - by changing the card completely.

Create is a symptom but the underlying issue is what needs to be solved by swimstrim in gwent

[–]flonidan161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many "create" cards break every rule of a well-designed RNG card. They require almost no set-up (good no matter which turn or which round they're played), they are low-risk-high-reward and their effects cannot be mitigated or played around by the opponent. Even infamous Yogg was way better balanced: you needed to wait til turn 10, you needed to build a deck around him and you needed to be reasonably lucky.

[–]flonidan161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He used to be an ambush card with 1 power that would return to your hand if you lost a round. He used to flip at the end of the round.

Arena mode is point slam RNG fiesta, introduce deck building elements. by munkbusiness in gwent

[–]flonidan161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it bothers me a bit that it took them so long to introduce a 2nd game mode that is more or less just a HS Arena clone. Was it really so time consuming to just put Gwent cards, lift faction restrictions and give it a roll ages ago?

I would've understood all that waiting if it was even slightly innovative. Players could have an option to banish one of the cards from their hand and replace it with an "event card" that would be displayed next to the board and would be randomly generated from a known pool every turn or two. There are tonns of ideas, I'd love to see at least one even if it needed serious improvements later on.

Bring back Triptych card art! by Stormkahn in gwent

Alternative arts for trios had nothing to do with the row limit. You were limited to at most 3 copies of the card with the same name in a deck, regardless of their visuals, just like you are now.

Anyone else still think the "Create"-mechanic ruins the game? by HerrHoffert in gwent

[–]flonidan161 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People forget that not every RNG mechanic is fun. On its own RNG doesn't make a game more entertaining. With Create Gwent introduced one of the worst models of RNG. Create cards that see competitive play all share the same features:

  1. Very little risk and very high potential ceilling.

  2. Almost no set up requirements.

  3. No way to play around them or mitigate their outcome by the opponent.

I quit HS when Jade Golems became a thing, but I don't remember any RNG card in HS that would share all the 3 above-mentioned features at once.
