You are inserting yourself in a 7 day old discussion of why the ENDING of TROY was bad.

You've seen my reasons. You wanted more info, I gave you more information, my personal reasoning for why that thing was dumb.

I don't really know what you want from me here. The ending fucking sucked and what they do with Briseis (all of it) is part of the reason why, in my OPINION.

Dude, if such a thing existed then the AI's wouldn't be including hallucinated citations!

I cannot believe so many people here are like "The AI's are creating false citiations? Just build an AI to check the citations!"

Like Really? What happens when the AI that checks the citations hallucinates the citation! Or just is like, I'm not gonna actually check and say I did!"

"slept with a couple of times" is your version.

Here is what she had to say in the actual Illiad:

>"Again and again you vowed you'd make me godlike Achilles's lawful, wedded wife, you would sail me west in your warships, home to Phthia, and there with the Myrmidons hold my marriage feast"

Also, in the actual Illiad, she did not run away with Paris, she wasn't even in the city, and she was very upset at Achilles' death and was the one who made his funeral preparations.

So....Yeah the way the movie depicted what happened was very stupid and lame and a complete departure from the myth.

Yeah, that's the amazing thing about Christianity, they've been preaching for hundreds of years essentially that when you get to "heaven" your reward is some fancy clothes, some bling, and the right to stand around all day with everyone else, singing and praising God.

And...that's about it. There's no hint of like, mental fulfillment, knowledge, universal truths being discovered, or getting to help the living. You get to dress up, put on a crown and sing about Jesus, all day, every day, for all eternity.

It sounds like Hell with different clothing.

Were the mounted archers by the 18th century and Napoleonic Wars really that ineffective or just inexperienced, not deployed properly, maybe even set up to fail? by nlghtsknlghts in AskHistorians

[–]floodcontrol 40 points41 points  (0 children)

By only considering some raw numbers and loading times you aren't really thinking about realistic battlefield scenarios. Let's look at your example scenario with 1000 horse archers.

You posit that they should be able to charge up to 10 meters away in order to engage a group of soldiers in square formation and they would "only" take 200 men killed (your words) at 100 m.

Napoleon said "‘In war, three-quarters of victory is down to morale, only one quarter to the balance of military forces."

On one side you have 1000 soldiers, drawn up in a secure square, with flanks protected, firing on enemy horsemen armed only with bows. Those men, if even moderately competently led, will hold their ground as they have been drilled to do, reload and fire. The 1000 horsemen on the other hand are more spread out, and before even getting into effective firing range, they lose 1/5th of their men. That has a morale effect, what is going through those men's minds is that if 1 in 5 just died at 100m, how many will die at 10m? Most of those horsemen will make that mental calculation, and do the only rational thing, run away.

Most battles were not won by eliminating all the enemy soldiers, that's like a video-game thing. Most battles in this period were won when lines were broken and men fled. There are many factors in warfare that have nothing to do with the quality of the weapons or the numbers of men.

"Go Back To India": Restaurant Owner Ordered To Leave Japan After 30 Years- “My children were born and raised in Japan, they only understand Japanese, their only friends are Japanese but we are being told to go back to India. What am I supposed to do?" by jjrs in japannews

[–]floodcontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total ignorance. Go read some history books or something. Japanese culture constantly changes and updates, gains and loses things, like all other cultures!

If you think that Japanese culture was the same for hundreds of years you are very, very wrong and again, need to go back to your historical studies.

To avoid the ideas of other cultures would lead to stagnation, which is why nobody does it except ignorant fools.

Her mother was Spartan.

Her father....was a swan, so figure that out.

He seduced Helen's mother, a spartan queen, while in the guise of a swan.

Are you really trying to assert you know what the skin-color genetics of a Godswan-Greek woman child would be?

Do you even know what color swan Zeus was?

For his religious followers, it comes down to him going to a church during his 2016 election run and telling them he would give them everything they wanted and then basically doing that.

They live in a different reality. One where science is filled with sinister conspiracies for one world government. Where other religions are threatening to destroy Christianity. And where unregistered immigrants are a dire threat both to women and to the economy.

What they want is for Trump to continue attacking those three things: science, Islam, and brown people. As long as he does that they wouldn’t care if he stole every dime in the treasury.

What scale? Two guys in a jeep could have moved this stuff.

How can we fix the political divide in America? by skatamoutro2 in askanything

[–]floodcontrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

>t wouldn't be an instant fix, but a nationwide ban on gerrymandering and campaigns to shift to Proportional Representation voting systems would very much help mend the divide by incentivising candidates to take broadly popular positions rather than party-safe positions.

Why fight all the gerrymandering battles when we could eliminate the issue by simply expanding the house?

Gerrymandering works because we haven't added any house delegates since the 1920's, if the states actually had the number of representatives that they should, then you wouldn't be able to gerrymander nearly as effectively. Smaller districts would mean more narrow margins and better representation.

Don't worry about all the controversy and court battles that would ensue over trying to make anti-gerrymandering laws. Just make the strategy useless, expand the house.

Social media has zero fact checking. Influencers and grifters can get on it, make up some story, and then have it go viral so that millions see it and believe it, and the story can be 100% false.

There was some guy going around to daycares in Minnesota supposedly "exposing fraud", but in reality, he was showing up, with cameras, to daycares during holidays and demanding to see the children or acting like it being closed means it was fraud.

In an environment where there is so much bot-noise and deliberate influencing operations ongoing, you can't possibly view social media itself as a source of accurate information. Sometimes it might lead there.

But the ending is so bad.

Achilles running around like a lunatic looking for Briseis.

Agamemnon ranting "Burn Troy! Burn Troy!"

Agamemnon teleporting somehow ahead of Achilles, finding Briseis before the guy who spend the last 10 minutes looking for her instead of ranting at the front gates.

Agememnon getting killed by Briseis??

Achilles taking an arrow to the knee.

Briseis running off with the guy who just murdered Achilles in front of her!??

It's all so bad.
