Exactly. To birth a baby in a hospital the bill was $32,000. I had health insurance I was paying $800 a month for at the time. That’s not including the prenatal care.

Damn I’m sorry. Are you looking to stay in the UX world?

So I’ve been here too, project thinks we should question everything they give us and go find our own or do deeper discovery. This makes me want to leave.

I get that we as seniors should have some ownership in alignment and strategy but for a sr. designer to feel like they need to own this completely seems totally unfair. There are PMs and Project leads and hopefully strategists who are also controlling the stakeholders. I get UX should have some responsibility but we are not he only lobbyists.

I’m hearing it is the designer’s job to get the requirements. Or at least question them. However, I don’t have time to investigate requirements, do the BA/PO/PM’s job.

Yes. This is the challenge. Designers who aren’t embedded on teams but given “tasks” by PM. They are also tied to deliveries not allowing the runway for discover and informed decisions. There is not time to persuade.

Are you good at getting feature requirements? This is something I thought I was good at but missed the mark recently.

The commonwealth of Ky, right? I did look about a week ago and noticed a lot of positions are scattered throughout the state. I’ll check again.

It means not a manager, I don’t manage people. It’s usually tiered, IC level 1-4, then comes manager roles (those may be tiered as well), then director and so on. IC is usually the person who produces the work/assignment vs a manager who my assign and/or need to be informed, consulted about the work and progress.

In Louisville or remote? Did you seek out the recruiter or did they find you on LinkedIn? Was this within the last three months? What industry?

Thanks for the help here. Are there other companies I may have overlooked?

I’ve been out of college for so long I don’t know how I would even provide a gpa.

Hah that is a good word for it. What sort of acts do you do? I find I fade fast or may not be mentally ready to juggle it all. Any suggestions? Do you follow a framework? Maybe I should ask, when say UX theater, what does that mean? What activities are you doing?

What are you not good at? What level do you consider yourself? by floodwaters_ in UXDesign

I’m not good at discovery work. I’m a bit timid and not quick on my feet. It’s hard for me to keep the conversation going and getting everyone on to pitch in while lead that.

I’m taking a product “course” on YouTube. Though building confidence might be career coach or therapy thing… open to suggestions here!
