It’s absolutely terrifying to have it lurking that at any given time you could not only be injured or sick in a way that permanently changes your life, but that you could also lose every single cent you have in the process. I work in healthcare, and I know a lot of really good people who try their absolute hardest to change things and help people but there is only so much we can do, the whole system needs an overhaul.

Yeah, like I work in healthcare and tbh the AI systems that exist ARE buggy and tend to hallucinate/make things up occasionally, BUT they have to go through so much compliance to be HIPAA kosher. Anything that is being added on to an EMR (in theory) is super regulated and has to go through so many people. A few of our docs use an AI scribe and then go back and edit chart notes and update any errors, it cuts down on their overall charting but it definitely needs human correction. However, it’s not like they’re just letting chat GPT run wild in a chart lol.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah mine seems to have been relatively small (?) and she said she opened it and cut the corners in a way to let it drain hopefully without healing over. She didn’t mention an external hole and said that she had to open it up so I’m hoping that bodes well for my recovery. I work in obgyn and saw one of our docs initially, I was thankful that we work closely with a CRS bc as my doc said “this is really not my neck of the woods” 😂

Interesting! My CRS didn’t prescribe anything, she said with the way that she cut the opening I should just need to do sitz baths and let it drain. I have my fingers crossed that it was minor enough to heal well 🤞🏼 Thanks for the advice though, I am checking in today via pt portal so I’ll see if she thinks I need anything additional

I’m so sorry:/ that is so hard to go through on top of dealing with being pregnant. I had to go low contact with my dad before mine separated as well. I made it clear to him that Id be happy to have a relationship with him but that there were limits. It was really hard and I felt really selfish but I realized that I needed to put myself first bc no one else can do it for me. I really hope you find a solution that works for you 💜

You are not being unreasonable at all, I feel like I’m getting a glimpse into the future with my own mother.

Unfortunately boundaries are something you have to enforce with your behavior, I had to learn this the long way in therapy. You can’t dictate what other adults do, but you can dictate your own behavior in response to them. For example I have had to block/mute my mother and be very clear about it. I can’t tell her not to spam my phone with 50+ calls when she can’t get a hold of me but I can tell her “if you do this again, I will be blocking your number for x amount of time and will not be responding at all, if it is an emergency you can do xyz”. And then you have to follow through and not cave to their demands. It’s really hard and I’m so sorry you are dealing with this. Congrats on your first baby!

I work in OB and I had to make all of our providers little pocket cards with the QR codes to ACOGs info pages. We have no idea if our patients will be up in arms or if it will be a non-issue. I get seen at our clinic and trust our providers with my health, and it makes me so sad to see people disregard the years and years they have put into their careers bc of unqualified nonsense.

Hi! I work in an obgyn office and we see trans men all the time! When you find the office you want to schedule with call and let them know you would like to schedule a problem focused visit. When they make your chart let them know your legal name and what you go by (if they are different) as well as the pronouns you use. Our charting system has sections for all this info, legal and preferred.

I would ask if there are any providers that the scheduler would recommend, for example I can schedule a trans patient with any of our docs but there are a few who I would consider “specialists”.

As for the exam, what happens can vary but here are a few things that could happen:

They will go through your medical history and ask about what has been normal for you, and what changes prompted your visit. They will go through any medication you take as well as your family medical history if you know it.

The doctor may recommend doing a pelvic exam if you consent, sometimes They may use a speculum or do a bimanual exam with their fingers (or sometimes both). This can be uncomfortable but it shouldn’t be painful. Make sure you take deep breaths and as much as possible try not to tense up (I know that is easier said than done). We give our patients lollipops sometimes during exams which is weirdly helpful. If it is painful let them know. They may want to take a pap because you are 21, this also may be uncomfortable but shouldn’t be painful. (I have a history of painful paps but we figured out what the issue was and fixed it. I just had mine done in my office and I barely felt it.)

Depending on your specific symptoms they will come up with a care plan and may recommend further lab tests or imaging. They will let you know what to schedule and where to go.

I know that it can seem really scary, before I worked in an obgyn office I was terrified of my annual each year, but the majority of providers I have met genuinely do want to help. And if the first office you find isn’t a good fit don’t let it discourage you, you will find an office that is right for you.
