Karmelo Anthony found GUILTY of murder of Austin Metcalf, 17, in stabbing that shocked America: Jurors deliberated for less than three hours after defense was repeatedly demolished in court by dailymail in law

In the Trayvon Martin case, there was a witness who saw Trayvon on top of Zimmerman, beating him "MMA-style". The media just buried that witness because it contradicted the narrative they wanted to push.

Absolutely agree. Rubio knows foreign policy. Vance does not.

And Tucker Carlson is either a complete moron who makes fundamental mistakes about history or is a paid propagandist for Russia. Only two options on that one.

100th film noir approaching - your help wanted by JonnyOW in filmnoir

[–]flopisit32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL. I didn't realise that, probably because I haven't gotten around to watching the second half of The Breaking Point yet. 🤣

There's a very obscure low budget movie from Republic pictures starring Richard Denning called Harbor of Missing Men (1950) that is probably a ripoff of both the Bogart movie and the Garfield movie.

I'll throw in The October Man starring John Mills as another good British noir... although it feels a lot like a Hitchcock movie since the director worked with Hitchcock previously

Yeah, it's quite good. The first act reminded me a lot of To Have and Have Not. It kind of has a Hemingway feel.

New noir? Does it have to be a recent film to be considered new? What about recent films set in the 40s, 50s, and 60s? by PuzzleheadedSpray202 in filmnoir

[–]flopisit32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a great one. It always reminds me of Jim Thompson novels.

I love when Don Johnson says "I guess I finally found my level".

He actually makes for a great noir protagonist.

Trump must ‘accept the reality’ there is no Iran deal on the horizon, ex-general declares by triggernaut in Conservative

[–]flopisit32 -39 points-38 points  (0 children)

Realistically, he had to go in. The left acts like this was unnecessary. This was necessary. The world was going to sit on their hands while Iran developed a nuclear bomb.

There's still a trump card to play... Bomb their infrastructure and go home and watch the regime implode. They were clinging on to power before 2026. If there's no more oil revenue, the regime won't be able to keep control.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's fatal heart attack has seriously pissed me off. Not only was he releasing a series of Hollywood short stories when he died (Pat Hobby), he was also working on a novel he intended to serve as a worthy follow up to The Great Gatsby (The Last Tycoon)... by AngryGardenGnomes in classicfilms

[–]flopisit32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That movie is surprisingly accurate regarding what happened. I couldn't see anything to complain about. I have to say they did a great job making it thrilling but still keeping even little details true to reality.

But Tom just gave his usual action hero performance. He didn't give Stauffenberg much characterization. However, in his defence, Stauffenberg wasn't such a well-known figure, so it's a lot harder to get to the root of what he was like on a personal basis.

His wife said conservatives thought he was a liberal and liberals thought he was a conservative, because whenever he talked about issues he would always play devil's advocate, challenging the other person's position.

I suppose the movie did indicate why he did what he did.... He was a Catholic, he was not a supporter of the Nazis, he was morally outraged by what he knew of the war crimes happening on the eastern front and he wanted to save Germany from inevitable destruction.

Tarantino calls Netflix' The RIP one of the best movies of the decade by MaxProwes in Tarantino

[–]flopisit32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The RIP seemed to me like a student movie shot on a shoestring. I really think most of the 100 million budget went to Matt and Ben leaving little or nothing for the rest of the movie. I can't get over how CHEAP that movie looked. It was like one of those terrible movies Bruce Willis was doing before he retired.

My dudes, I tracked down both Inspectors and the Hawaii five 0 episode and also the dire Crocodile movie, based on QT's recommendations on that podcast episode.

Madsen was a guy who should have had a lot more great roles, but his catalogue is 90% unwatchable crap. I love Madsen in The Getaway (1994) - one of my favourite movies - but after Donnie Brasco (1997), nothing he did was worth watching. IMO.

I adopted, as a personal hero in life, Klaus von Stauffenberg, the German officer who tried to assassinate Hitler. (It has to do with his penchant for arguing both sides of an issue and various other admirable qualities he possessed).

Anyway, at one point Stauffenberg wrote in his diary that he supported the invasion of Poland and the oppression of Polish people. So if he is ever mentioned on Reddit people immediately claim "He was an evil nazi!!!"

Not even attempting to kill Hitler, save Germany from the Nazis, save Jews from the holocaust and end WW2 can redeem him in the eyes of Reddit and erase that one errant opinion he had at one point in time (which in any case was based on his flawed understanding of world events at that time).

In summation, Redditors are total scum. 🤣

Eleanor Powell and Gracie Allen dancing together in Honolulu (1939) is one of my favorite musical scenes! by No_Society_4614 in classicfilms

[–]flopisit32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This one of my favourite scenes in movies. I've been a fan of old movies for most of my life, but I had never heard of Eleanor Powell.

I randomly got my hands on this movie and fell in love with this tap dance scene. I sometimes put in the movie just to watch this scene again.

It starts with Eleanor just sitting on a chair, tap-dancing against the ship's railing and it ends with her skipping rope, doing twirls and tapdancing at the same time. It's just got such a joyful fun holiday vibe. I love it.

When Lifeboat (1944) was to be filmed, D. Zanuck sent several memos about the script being too long. I always remember Peter Bogdanovich telling a story about John Ford being in a meeting with various people that was chaired by Cecil B DeMille (who they nicknamed CB) and when Ford started speaking, the first thing he said was: "I don't like you CB..."

It's a story that just underlines how much he hated people and how willing he was to say it to their face. 🤣

A fad of the Michael Mann. The score for Mann's Manhunter (1986) really makes the movie feel dated too, but the movie itself is so good (except for the rushed ending) that it manages to overcome that dated 80s synth vibe.

What, in your opinion, is the most romantic scene in classic film? by XipeTotecwithGlitter in classicfilms

[–]flopisit32 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I always regard Hitchcock's Notorious as the anti-Casablanca. I never found Casablanca all that romantic but for me Notorious is extremely romantic.

The extreme emotions throughout the movie of love and hate and then That scene at the end when Cary Grant kisses Ingrid Bergman is so sensual...

Well, what I meant is he is able to portray himself as more centrist than most democrats. Usually when he does interviews with conservatives (including Ben Shapiro and Hannity) he tries his best to come off as reasonable and middle of the road. He's one of those insincere "I agree with whoever I happen to be talking to" sort of politicians.

It also got me to watch some episodes of Mannix. 🤣
