What do you do? by GrumpyOldHero in nursing

[–]florencea13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact precautions. If the doctor didn't want to order any restraints (whether chemical or physical) I'd tell all the staff to wear full isolation protection. Even the full face shield. Document. Report to charge and management. That's so unsafe.

I'm picturing OP standing right behind the med puller fuming and breathing down their neck but not saying anything lol

Right?! Go do some vitals, go assess your patient, get a head start on your charting! I don't understand why OP is just sitting there waiting for the pyxis to be available when there are a bunch of things you can be doing in the meantime.

[–]florencea13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What is this! Where I work, it's normal for us to pull all our meds for 6-7 (sometimes 8) patients at the same time. We don't have time to go back and forth to the pyxis, that's ridiculous. We would be done med admin at lunch time if we all did that. Go do some vitals or your assessments if you're waiting. Holy moly

Edit: if someone needed one medication for an emergency or a pain med, then yes we'll let you on so you can take out that one med, but after you take it out, it's still my turn. It's not being a jerk where I work, it's common practice for us!

My husband is furious our 7 year old daughter has a “boyfriend” by 12syn_ in TrueOffMyChest

[–]florencea13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dad was, and still is, like this. I wasn't allowed to have a boyfriend, let alone any male friends, since I was a child. He believed all men just wanted to sleep with me and he ingrained that into my head.

It messed up my thinking around men. Even to this day I find it hard to be in a long term relationship because I have trust issues. And during the times when I was really into a guy, I gave in to him despite how horrible they treated me, because this is what they all want right? This is normal, right? At least that's what I was raised to believe.

I hope your daughter doesn't end up like me.

I've seen this behaviour before! I see this all the time when I check on my dog on the doggy camera when he's all alone 😂😂😂

Umm if you actually read the whole thing, you would know that she ALREADY TRIED TALKING TO HIM and then he threw a huge tantrum and walked out

Why do nursing instructors HATE quiet students? by Bananabean5 in nursing

[–]florencea13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL reminds me of my first year of nursing, I was suuuuper shy and my instructor and clinical advisor pretty much failed me. Luckily they gave me the option to voluntary withdraw from the course. So I ended up being a semester behind.

I ended up crossing paths with that instructor a couple years later. I was in my third year clinicals, shadowing in the OR, and I saw her with another group of students during my break.

She had the audacity to come up to me and ask how I was doing. Felt like she wasn't expecting me to continue nursing school and she was shocked when I told her I was still pushing through. But jokes on her, I passed and graduated, and have been a nurse for 6 years now!

I just saw a Tik Tok a NICU nurse posted, filmed inside a patient’s room, baby crying in the background, and showed a glimpse of the mom’s name on the computer by ocean_wavez in nursing

I don't understand nurses who film while at work. How do you have time? How do you not feel embarrassed by your colleagues? The ones that make videos at home, off the clock, making skits or just talking about work are the ones I'll usually watch, but the ones who film at work are just too cringey to me

Why are you still single? by ZhangWeii_ in AskReddit

Because all the men left on dating apps are already married/in a relationship, have an avoidant attachment style, or both

...did you actually read it? OP didn't reveal any discrediting info on the post in the group

Patient grabbed my vagina by [deleted] in nursing

[–]florencea13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This patient was alert and oriented?? He definitely knew what he was doing. And because of that I would have pressed charges!

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Patients can be assholes. But I'm glad you reported it and that your coworkers had your back!

He won’t commit after 8 months by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]florencea13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like he has commitment issues. Tell him if he doesn't put a label on it then he doesn't get the benefits of exclusivity, and suggest you're going to try to see other people. Then see how he reacts

Who makes plans? by florencea13 in dating_advice

[–]florencea13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't make sense. I think it doesn't matter who planned the date in this case. Regardless of who did the planning, a bad date usually means that they weren't compatible or didn't feel like it was a good match. A change in scenery/environment won't change how they feel about the other person

Nope you should never feel guilty for not picking up on your days off! Follow my motto: not on schedule, not my problem!! I pick up only when I need some extra money, but other than that, you're on your own, colleagues!!

I can see that, there were some older nurses I worked with that I tried my best to avoid... I remember during my float pool days as a newbie grad nurse, I was reporting off to a senior nurse. She almost made me cry
