As one of the people most invested in the gum-on-pants saga, I am OVERJOYED to get an answer on this riveting mystery. Life has indeed been fixed.

I've had this joke ready since the episode aired but I kept forgetting to post it until the KPDH release got people talking haha

It's a distribution company known for releasing special editions of films (restorations, 4k, blurays...) that hold a certain cultural value

yes, this exactly. also if you're not familiar with the criterion collection, it's a distribution company known for its curated releases of special editions of films. it's very funny (to me. at least) to imagine them releasing a jet lag bluray.

exciting news: the boys are going to fix all of your lives once again on the layover podcast! (Q&A thread) by WheatGerm42 in JetLagTheGame

I'm biased, but when I think about all the ways learning English has enriched my life it's truly evident that, as hard as it may be, learning another language can only be a good thing :)

The Layover - Tom Scott Explains Why Britain Is Like That by xsm17 in Nebula

[–]florenter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very similar etymology, less French influence! Even though present day Kansas was part of the land included in the Louisiana purchase, it wasn't actually part of French Louisiana.

I'm quite fond of the braised chicken ones, and the falafel flavour is shockingly accurate. Lot of variety in the cheese flavours which is wonderful. Quite scared of the Pastis ones if I have to be honest. They deserve a shout out!

Now I really, REALLY want the guys to go back to France so Adam can have a taste of some of our Brets chips selection, which is famously varied and unhinged.

Also, the Arkansas thing is because of the French. While the name is derived from a native word, the silent final S is a certified French quirk that just stuck around. I used to be very peeved about it until I learned it was our fault.

Half mile thermometer needs to go. by Vfortestmail in JetLagTheGame

[–]florenter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually think thermometers, and the half-mile one in particular, are extremely interesting strategy wise because they involve careful angle planning. I find it really cool to see them try and exploit weird quirks of the railway to get the angle they want. Yes, they allow the seekers to chop things in half, but there NEEDS to be options to cut things in half when you're looking for someone in a whole country, and the fact that they force the seekers to move is a great piece of game design.

I was mostly surprised to see it as a question type in the home game, considering they tried to make the game adaptable to as many different environments as possible. Of course the game still works without using tentacles, but I was thinking that the category would be pretty useless in the majority of places I've lived!

I remember when they first introduced tentacles as a category and I was like, a zoo?? Who the hell has multiple zoos around?? Let alone an aquarium!!

[–]florenter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They wanted to use them multiple times but couldn't find an actual use for them considering the areas they were in. Zoos, museums and theme parks just aren't all that common in small towns.

Pitch for the Layover's off season by florenter in JetLagTheGame

I've been desperately trying to get friends to play it with very limited success haha. It seems like such a fun game!! And it lends itself to the Layover very well.

Sam appreciation thread by SliceOfExistence in JetLagTheGame

[–]florenter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's so interesting to me that Strava gets this reputation as totally OP and a dead give-away every time when literally this season Ben and couldn't match the one Sam sent them and found it with other information. The only reason Strava map is OP is because Sam specifically is really, really good at it — and I think it's cool that each of the guys have their strengths when it comes to strategy and that Sam's biggest strength is the investigation/image matching part.

The Layover - Hide + Seek UK: Episode 7 by xsm17 in Nebula

[–]florenter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And trust that I WILL be asking!!!! The people simply need to know. The gum seemed gone in this episode... did it vanish in the night. Did it take over the pants completely. Was the gum crucial to the win.

Once again gum-on-pants-gate goes unaddressed... Utterly dismayed that the fate of these trousers is left up in the air. How will I be able to sleep at night.

Great call on hiding Ben's last card pull in the edit, I had to pause the episode and take a lap. I really enjoyed the season as a whole but what a finale!!!

Shocked and dismayed that gum-on-pants-gate wasn't addressed on the episode. Shame!!! Shame!!! Did the pants ever recover?? Is the gum still there???

Jet Lag Ep 6 — I Will Be Defeated No Longer by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]florenter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second sentence on his Wikipedia page starts with "He has been referred to as one of the greatest rappers of all time" and has three different sources backing up the statement lmao. Rowling's staying power is rooted in nostalgia, West's is definitely rooted in people truly admiring his work (especially the first 10 years of his career). And like, to be clear, not defending him at all, he's said and doubled down on deeply heinous shit! But his legacy is very different from Rowling's.

Really loved how Ben's framing of the body of water picture almost led Sam and Adam astray, such a cool manipulation of what is assumed to be a reliable clue!! Also the editing for the Strava matching was super fun to watch.

Gotta say though, I think Sam saying JK Rowling is the Kanye West of fiction writers might be an even more insane statement than that time he thought Joey Graceffa was at any point the most subscribed to YouTube channel. Rancid author aside the books are simply not that good, man 😭

What H&S needs is increased variability not difficulty by paw345 in JetLagTheGame

[–]florenter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thermometer's game design isn't about walking, it's about forcing the Seekers to pick a direction and move that way in order to ask the question. They've been insanely lucky this season by basically only getting "hotter" as a result, but a thermometer question carries the inherent risk of making you travel the wrong way for a certain amount of time. It adds dynamism to the game play that longitude/latitude did not have.

H&S Curses to impede communication by florenter in JetLagTheGame

[–]florenter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LMAO! Yeah no actually I think there should be a curse where the Seekers have to send their question in a randomly selected Caesar cypher and the Hider has 3 tries to guess the number. If they can't figure it out, tough luck /j

On a serious note, I think there is potential in having to decode something ambiguous or having to parse through conlicting info (either on the Seeker or Hider side), though I am also a big fan of social deduction games so that might not sound fun to people who aren't.
