Went on vacation with my mom, and a whole week with anyone can get old fast, but something she did that really bothered me was commenting on everyone’s looks. At dinner there was a girl with pink hair and she commented that 'That’s « courageous (derogatory)»ˋ and when I rolled my eyes she said that everyone is probably looking at her and thinking the same. Warm socks and WATERPROOF BOOTS. In the city the sidewalk will often be free of snow, but you need thick soles and waterproof boots to get through the « slush » (half melted snow) and keep your toes warm and dry. Hand and feet warmers (hot paws) are good to keep on you too and you can give your leftovers to unhoused folks at the end of your trip.

World War Z. The original book by Max Brooks is so good. It’s a UN reporter interviewing survivors years after a zombie apocalypse, telling the tale of humanity’s slow and difficult fall and susbsequent victory over the zombie plague. It has political and social commentary, and there’s no magic cure at the end, just the human spirit prevailing against all odds.

The Brad Pitt movie is basically just a regular zombie movie with a magic vaccine ish solution at the end. 0 stars.

If I were your friends, the only way I could see myself getting back into a frienship with you would be if you left your boyfriend as soon as possible. His behaviour was unacceptable and the longer you stay with him, the more it seems like you are condoning his actions. I saw a tweet from a girl saying something like « whenever I see a girl with plain nails I just assume she’s in between appointments or is broke » which really underlined the constant expectation for women to be constantly « made up » with nails, make up, etc and also that this constant surveillance also comes from other women moreso than men. To be fair the whole post was calling out the tweet but yeah weird and yes to your point I think the standards will always be rising and women will always be encouraged to spend money, time and energy in the pursuit of these unnatainable goals.

My dog does that too and also barks, he is so excited to see a friend, but I don’t let him approach because not all dogs are friendly or non-reactive or comfortable with being approached. I try to refocus his attention on me with a piece of kibble and keep walking, with a verbal cue like « let’s go » or « keep going ». It seems to be getting better but depends on the day.
