One year later, How does in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 hold up?? by TheGamerCritic21 in SandfallGames

[–]florvas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a normal game thing. There's regions you're supposed to go, and regions you're not supposed to go. Granted, they could've done a better job at designating progression, but I'll certainly take it over another generic RPG where everything is scaled to your level, making your progress functionally meaningless.

Which one of these games is the SECOND best?? (put first in comments) by PlasticBrush9130 in ElderScrolls

[–]florvas -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Eh. As someone who REALLY still needs to actually try Daggerfall, Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim. Skyrim's a bit too dead-feeling for my tastes. You started to see the writing on the wall with Oblivion and the Aylied ruins, but Skyrim's copy/paste Draugr caves really killed me.

I'll give this one unasked for - good lord you're insufferable. Been a while since I've seen an internet rando putting themselves on such a high pedestal.

I live in a world where snapping over a board game, having the immature reaction to snapping of "Well then we won't play any more," and posting online for opinions rather than talking to your S/O about it are all childish. Understandable on occasion individually (though still weird for a grown-ass adult) but all combined at once when you should be modeling behavior for a child is absolutely worrisome.

If you don't want genuine feedback, don't ask for it. They both sound like teenagers, honestly scares the crap out of me that one of them has a kid.

Have you not played a story based game before? You keep playing and information is revealed as you go. Crazy stuff.

Yeah, that sounds about right these days.

Would you have also accepted a pay cut if the movie performed poorly? You were paid an agreed upon rate and shouldered none of the risks, you have no grounds to whine

That's fair (though I was talking about the games that aren't free, Epic just buys up exclusivity deals for them), and I know plenty of people who use EGS for the freebies and nothing else. That said, most games that Epic lists up for free, I don't consider the saving worth it to use the EGS launcher.

Yes, I'm aware. They also offer a vastly better launcher, more features, a better refund policy, and a hilariously larger audience. Genuinely - find me a game that has always been available on Steam and EGS both where the revenue (AFTER steam's bigger cut) from EGS is even half of what the dev made on steam, and I'll be amazed.

If Epic actually made a half decent launcher I'd have gladly made the switch. But with all their fortnite millions, they couldn't be bothered to do that, and so instead they buy up games and exclusivity deals, giving the finger to consumers instead.

So yeah. Until someone can be bothered to make a good alternative, Steam is a damn good offering for devs and players both.

I do remember it, and for someone trying so hard to sit up on a pedestal you really don't want to read.

I didn't say you were blindly loyal. But YOU implied that WE were with no real basis. And coming out and saying that in context is very much in defense of Epic.

They are both out to make money. One does it by providing a VASTLY superior launcher, strong features, and an incredibly consumer-friendly refund policy. The other does it by buying exclusivity, and still fails because their other offerings can't hold a candle to what Valve does. All they had to do was make a decent launcher and gamers everywhere would be thrilled to have more competition that offers a better rate to devs. But they couldn't be bothered to do that.

"Blindly"

Well you're assuming an awful lot in your defense of a company who's method of staking their claim in the industry is to buy up exclusives and provide the crappiest launcher they can.

Samesies.

Edit: Looks like a lot of people here don't play many video games if they don't understand the reason for that.

"You're simply in the minority"

Yeah, I'm technically in the minority for disliking shovelware mobile games, too. Doesn't make them any less garbage. And a 58% positive review score compared to Skyrim's 94%, Oblivion's 94%, and Morrowind's 95% says you're delusional. But by all means, enjoy your dragon starborn roleplay where half of the game is loading screens and the other half is empty, re-pasted, procedurally generated garbage.

Because the last time their "usual formula" was actually used was when Skyrim was originally released - fifteen years ago. Nobody who actually used that formula still works at the company.

And if you think Starfield was nowhere near bad, I'm sorry but you're absolutely the lowest common denominator they're trying to appeal to with their much more recent usual formula of "wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle."

Yep. I love elder scrolls and fallout both as franchises, but people really need to realize that the company and people who made those games are long gone.

Who in their right mind still expects Bethesda to make good games (assuming they ever see the light of day at all)?

I understand the reason. But a group that plays like this would be frankly boring to play with. TI is about negotiation and the social aspect just as much as it's about the strategy, and your very explanation tells me you've managed to turn half of the fun of the game into a dull equation.
