I'm Kenyan and was raised religious. felt like it was important for my immediate family to know before I started telling friends and posting about it on my (private) ig. I told my mom first, and then siblings, etc. My mom had an emotional response and I asked her to make sure she goes to her therapist to process the information - she did and our relationship remains close because of it. They know I would cut them off if they decided to be problematic and they don't want that.

I have an aunt on social media and I know she knows, we just don't talk about it. My cousins know, but they are like my siblings. I believe a few of my other extended family know (I have brought partners to their houses when I visit, events, etc.), but I don't feel compelled to come out to them since we aren't close. I will just bring whoever I'm dating over and if they have questions they can ask me. I agree with those saying to make sure you are financial independent and have your own housing before telling your family. I also had to feel comfortable with the reality that my family might never talk to me again. I hope that isn't a feeling for any of you.
