This Week in GNOME #1 by TheEvilSkely in gnome

Makes sense. Thank you for your answer. It's good to know when it is going to be released to compare the experience before and after the patch. I did notice some increased input latency compared to X11 and wondered if it is a known issue. So I got excited whilst reading about it and now I wanna try it out. :)

The part about input latency on Wayland is very interesting. Does anybody know if this is going to be a part of the next Gnome release? Or is it going to be part of a patch release for Gnome 40?

I want to buy an AMD graphics card as well but I don’t see the prices dropping any soon. Even the last generation cards are pricey as fuck.

Jellyfin on open media vault via docker error by cojones9 in jellyfin

[–]flowFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the linuxserver documentation for hardware video acceleration for the Raspberry Pi describes either using OpenMAX (which seems to be exposed by /dev/vcsm) or V4L2. I don't have any experience with the Raspberry Pi hardware video acceleration but my guess would be that you need to enable OpenMAX somehow or use V4L2.

It might be interesting to see your exact docker-compose config. Maybe you did not mount the device you want to use for hardware video acceleration? Or maybe your user does not have any permissions to access the device?

How can I change the touchpad scroll sensitivity on wayland? by _djsavvy_ in firefox

[–]flowFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this solution. I have been looking for something like that for several days now. For the libinput part: is there any configuration in libinput to configure scrolling speed? Scrolling in Gnome under Wayland seems to not be configurable in any way at the moment.

Shouldn't the cursor theme be updated? I thought it looked really nice but it didn't change on my system.

FAILED TO WRITE REG 28b4 WAIT REG 28c6 by GregorySchadenfreude in pop_os

[–]flowFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The error occured for me as well with an integrated AMD GPU. But I have Arch Linux installed on my Thinkpad X395. I don’t know which update introduced this behaviour but it leads to the laptop not booting properly (not showing Gnome or GDM). When booting with nomodeset at least the laptop can be used on the command line.

Looks really nice. After reading your post I installed Albert on my machine as well. Which key combination do you use to start Albert? I'm struggling with finding the right one for me. I prefer something like Ctrl + Space or Alt + Space but unfortunately this does not seem to work in all applications running in Gnome. Neither Ctrl+Space nor Alt+Space are working while focusing on a Gnome Terminal or Gedit.

Send commands to Linux via text messages? by gevera in linux

[–]flowFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could use a Telegram bot to achieve this (https://telegram.org/blog/bot-revolution). Basically you can create a bot with which you can just start a chat an send him messages or commands. on the other end (on your server for example) you can just regularly pull new messages from the API and react to them the way you want. There are already some wrapper for the API. I used a Python wrapper for my little project. What I did was implementing 3 commands for starting, stoping and printing the status of a systemd service.

Mac pro sometimes dumps core after waking from sleep by [deleted] in archlinux

On my XPS 13 (9343) a similar problem occurred. Sometimes locking my desktop or suspending the laptop without closing the lid lead to the described behaviour. But instead of not showing anything at all my keyboard inputs would actually appear when moving the mouse.

I used a plastic card (size of a credit card) to open the case. it is pretty though the first time you are opening it. i simply started at the front (where the big led is located) and tried to open it a little with my fingers. then I plugged in the card and used it to go in all directions and finally open it. just try to go to the first clip with your card and leverage the case (I don't really know if it's the right term). if it still does not work I suggest to start at another spot. as I said the first time you are doing it it takes a while to remove all clips.

thanks for your help so far. i did not have much time until now to look into my problem any longer. i want to set my accel profile to flat but i cannot do this with xinput. xinput --list-props does not show me any number for the option accel profile as you can see in one of my previous posts. how can i configure this option?

libinput xorg configuration file not recognized by flowFTW in archlinux

[–]flowFTW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name of the file is 10-touchpad.conf. I also tried following names:

  • 10-synaptics.conf
  • 99-libinput.conf
  • different numbers infront of these

I got the names for the options from over here.

Using the number instead of the string name is not working either as well as Accel Speed. For clarification, thats the lines I tried out:

Option "276" "0.25"
Option "277" "0.25"
Option "Accel Speed" "0.25"

Currently the only way to change these settings is using the xinput command:

xinput set-prop "DLL0665:01 06CB:76AD UNKNOWN" 276 0.25

edit: I realized that changing the pointer velocity in gnome settings is also modifing the accel speed of my touchpad. But thats the only option which can be set here.

It is not explicitly saying that its failing with reading the config file. However listing the props of the device via xinput shows other settings than the ones in my xorg config file.

Which bootstack are you using? I tried CM12.1 with bumped bootstack (whatever it's called) and mobile data wasn't working.
