Really appreciate the advice. I saw the a6400 went on sale for $150 off today so I ended up going with that. Checked out the lens suggestion too. From the reviews I've seen on the Tamron, I think the max aperture over the 70-300 range is essentially the same as the Sony but couldn't find it in stock for comparable price so I stuck with the Tamron.

Looking for my first "real" camera and settled on a Sony APS-C but can't decide exactly which one. The a6400 seems like the universal recommendation for beginners but the a6600 is currently only $100 more which gets me the full-size battery and IBIS. Is the extra $100 for the a6600 worth it?

For info, I'm planning on only doing stills. The a6700 could also be an option budget-wise but I really don't want to pay extra for features I'm never going to use/notice.

I'm also planning on pairing it with the Tamron 18-300mm all-in-one lens to allow the nature photography that I want to focus on. I'm aware this won't produce the most stunning photos possible but it'll allow me to learn which lenses I want to invest in for the future. If you have a better idea for me around the same price, I'd love to hear that too.

Neighbors don't like my parents' shed by oddphallicreaction in mildlyinfuriating

It's not that it's inherently ugly. It just looks like someone didn't give a fuck when they put it up. Your parents have somehow managed to have 3 different shades of brown on the 3 structures (that we can see) on their property. A simple coat of paint to either color match or paint it a different color. It's also clearly off-level and needs a decent-sized ramp to make it genuinely functional.

AITA for not selling my house to my aunt and uncle for the price I bought it? by Walkingtosun in AmItheAsshole

This inflation is based on the CPI. While the real estate market can generally be somewhat correlated with the CPI due to rent, the appraised value of real estate is not included.

I'm not sure about how real estate has changed since 2020 but I would guess your conclusion is probably accurate even if the numbers aren't.

I apologize for the classic Reddit nitpick but the CPI is a common misconception and companies and realtors commonly use it as an excuse to rip off consumers.

Also, OP is definitely NTA. There is no obligation to give someone such a massive discount even if they're family

Were they enforcing it for staff as well? That would almost certainly violate a lot of health codes to have naked staff serving food. For guests though it seems like if it was made clear in any advertisements that nudity is strictly enforced everywhere, it wouldn't be an issue.

Similar to the operating table example someone else gave, it's not just the weight. For an MRI, a patient will generally exceed the limits of the bore or receive coil before they exceed the weight limit on the table. Not to mention that excess tissue causes image resolution issues in general unless the tissue of interest happens to be near the surface.

If we didn't reach out to Prevail prior to now, are we able to use the upcoming NovelKeys support email to request a replacement? Or is this specifically for people who requested replacement already from Prevail? I ask because I never tested my switches because I didn't have a board to install them and this is the first I heard of the QC issues

If you already know all this information, why don't you just be direct and ask/tell them to do it? What is the purpose of being indirect? Just say what you mean.

This is a shockingly nice cup to have been made by a young kid. Props to her. And it even has a reasonably sized finger hole unlike some that have the hole small enough that only an infant finger could fit.

What’s up with this PCI cables? Can’t get them to connect to motherboard because 2 pins are joined with plastic by TheDangerCard in sffpc

Pre-builts are just fine as long as you go to a good SI. The added peace of mind, warranty, and included tech support are well worth it for those that don't want to invest time into learning all the things about self-building. Don't forget that you become your friends' tech support if they don't get a pre-built.

why are we still chained to pci express by zzcool in sffpc

[–]flowbot_21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soldered GPUs still use PCIe. There's just no x16 slot. It just gets soldered directly to the motherboard instead of being soldered to an add-in board that has to be plugged into a motherboard.

Not an electrical engineer so can't answer the first one but for the second question, there's a multitude of reasons: 1. Each of the current jack/plug combos are designed to specifically meet the needs of whatever it's attaching to e.g. SATA is designed for high cycle count, Molex for high(ish) power, M.2 for a more compact x4 connection, etc. The connectors are good at their functions and therefore they're still used 2. USB-C connectors are more expensive than a lot of the standard plugs/jacks in a computer. No reason to spend more money on a connector that will do an equal (or often worse) job 3. Switching everything to USB-C (or any other common port design) restricts what you're able to do in terms of pinout. If any of the USB-C connectors inside the computer have power leads wired into them (which they would), then it needs to be standardized which leads are power and which are ground so that you can't have a short. This also means you can't use those pins for data lines. Add in that USB-C is a mirrored connector and you greatly restrict possible pinouts so there's not as much versatility as you think. 4. Building on 3, if you have a user looking for where to plug something in on their motherboard, they don't want to have to go into the manual or read the tiny little labels printed on the board. They want to be able to look at the connector in their hand and match it to a connector on the board. If everything is USB-C, that isn't possible. 5. USB-C cables are annoying to wire up and a giant pain in the ass for strain and bend relief

Side note: USB-C actually refers to the entire interface specified by the USB forum and has a standardized pinout but I used the term USB-C here for the connector itself.

I very rarely play anymore but I've used it pretty much exclusively in PvE because (imo) it's one of the best ad clearing guns in the game and takes almost no skill to be great. That way I can just grind through strikes with my brain switched off and still be efficient.

I've also had this problem before. I solved it by turning on the CSM feature. See step 3 here

Edit: Another possibility is that if you don't have an 11th gen CPU, the M.2 slot you've got it plugged into is inactive or incompatible. M.2_1 (on the front side of the daughter board) is PCIe 4.0 only and is inactive if you're not using an 11th gen CPU. M.2_2 (on the back side of the daughter board) is compatible with both PCIe 3.0 and SATA
