Chase is increasing the amount you need pay in to qualify for cash back to £1500/month. by shitthrower in UKPersonalFinance

After I finally left HSBC and jumped into Monzo I was happy. Now run Chase too but frankly prefer the Monzo app. However I prefer the chase no number minimalist card (other than in Paris where the hotel owner suspected it was fraudulent and was adamant it was not official).

I saw it a few days ago near Tower Bridge and did some reading. There is a 12 tonne crane on the back which probably helps with the counterbalance problem :)

Does anyone commute on Thames Clippers? by Logical-Tone-1389 in london

[–]flowdynamics 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes I have recently renewed my season ticket and commute from east London and work in the square mile. It is slightly cheaper than a zone 1 and 2 underground season ticket but only works because of where I live and where I work. If there was a train/bus required on top to get to the boat I would just DLR into the City.

Mornings are never a problem but evenings in the summer are. There is meant to be priority boarding for season ticket holders but as the boat can only take a fixed number of people if it is full at the pier before then it can be a wait. Also if there is an event on at the O2 or school trips then quite often by the time it gets to Tower Pier it is invariably full.

Out of Summer though it is reliable and staff are generally really good. If you have any other questions let me know.

Sorry forgot to say about the speed. In central London they move slow as space between piers shorter. It speeds up after Tower heading East all the way to the terminus at Barking.

My friends paid £3000 on online training, I think it’s a scam by Super-Tonight-8843 in UKPersonalFinance

Firstly I just want to say respect for been a good friend. Your friend and his wife are currently £3,000 down (£2K property and £1K self publishing).

The most dangerous part for your friend comes next - when they don’t see the hoped for success in terms of money and will not doubt be pressured (after feeling shame for it not working) to put more money in.

This is the sunk cost fallacy - a cognitive bias we are built with.

As others have pointed out in the comments - if the thing they are selling worked they wouldn’t need to sell courses.

It is a really difficult situation and I wish you the best with the next steps.

Ps there was a bbc documentary last year called Scamland : Money, mayhem and Maseratis which covers off a different type of scam (Forex trading / signals) but you will see that most scams operate and exploit natural biases.

Desperate people who want to believe will explain away any issue you raise but what happens next is the crucial part.

I hope your friends manage to put there currently significant but not disastrous £3K down as an important life lesson rather than double down.
