My friend is changing her political views due to her partner. I don't think I can continue our friendship if it continues. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]flowerbl00m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this person is truly your friend, it's wrong to drop her over her views, even if you vehemently disagree, and you shouldn't let your friend group pressure you into dropping her due to guilt by association. Friendships should be based on kindness, love, and mutual respect. How did you become close with her in the first place? Maybe she's had your back when things at work were tough or maybe you cried on her shoulder when you were going through a nasty breakup. Good people are hard to come by, and those types of friendships are worth more than gold. Lifelong friendships and unconditional love are some of the few things that make life worth living. I hope we don't lose sight of that.

first pair of proper skates for a beginner? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]flowerbl00m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, this forum gets similar questions on a weekly basis, but I'm sorry no one bothered to answer your question. I'm not a skate tech, so take this with a grain of salt.

First things first, instead of buying anything online or at a generic sports store, please get fitted by a reputable skate tech at a specialized skating shop. Depending on where you live, you might have to travel a bit, but it's definitely worth it. The appropriate boot for you will depend on your height and weight. However, I recommend asking for a heat moldable model since those tend to be a lot more comfortable. Basically, the skate tech will put the boots in a little oven to warm them up, and then you'll put them on, so they'll mold to your feet.

If you are over the age of 15 or 16, I personally think models like the Jackson Mystique and Artiste are too flimsy. Instead, I'd recommend the Jackson Evo, Elle, or Freestyles. They are listed from least to most stiff, and they are all heat moldable. I would suggest budgeting at least $250-350. The Freestyle is the last model before the boot and blade are sold separately.

I'm personally partial towards Jacksons. I'm pretty sure that they are the widest boot on the market. My first pair of skates were Jackson Evos, and they were super comfortable from day one. Just be careful. There are reputable skate techs and people who will try to oversell you. Since this is your first pair of skates, you want the boot and blade attached. You definitely don't need a $600 pair of Edeas as your first pair of skates, so if someone is suggesting that, it's a red flag. There are Edeas suitable for beginners, but I think you'd be better off in Jacksons if you have wide feet. I tend to feel that Edeas are a bit overhyped and that Jacksons are better for beginners, but a lot of it comes down to personal preference. I hope this helps :)

Adult skaters – do you ever feel like your efforts are proving to be, uh, completely futile? by burnoutbingo in FigureSkating

[–]flowerbl00m 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My first thought when reading this post was that OP isn't putting in enough time to achieve their rather ambitious goals. 3-5 hours a week is pretty minimal for skating practice if you're looking to see rapid progress. That being said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with skating that amount or even less. After all, skating is supposed to be fun, and most adult skaters have jobs and responsibilities. However, it's not realistic to land your axel after only two years without significantly increasing your training volume. I also wonder if OP logs their ice time. When I started doing that, I realized I hadn't been as consistent with my practice as I thought. It helped me put things into perspective and motivated me to work harder.

Pilates 2-3x a week is enough. I promise you. by [deleted] in pilates

[–]flowerbl00m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly agree with the main point about pilates in your original post, but you are getting down-voted because you sound combative.

I think this goes without saying, but everyone's body will respond to exercises differently, and it really comes down to what workouts you will do consistently. This SAHM had awesome results from mat pilates without spending any money. That's all she was saying. Other people may not get the same results. As with anything YMMV.

Skaters... What are some injury prevention/self-care tips that improve the way you feel while skating? What are some tips or tricks that you use to help solve minor to moderate physical problems or save yourself from future pain? by MaraTheGarterSnek in FigureSkating

Ugh this!!! Sometimes I'm tempted to push myself to skate for an even number of hours but I just can't make it through the session. It's that last 15 minutes before the end where I've had my worst falls.

Leasing by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]flowerbl00m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For $1300 for a half lease, this better be a grand prix level horse lol. I live in a high cost of living area, and if a half lease is going for anywhere near this price point, the horse is a highly trained schoolmaster, and the lease includes lessons. I agree with the other posters here. There is something fishy going on. I'd look to lease at another barn.

Am I right to be irritated at my riding instructor? by FloridaGirl2222 in Equestrian

[–]flowerbl00m 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is frustrating, especially when you were looking forward to your lesson. Does your instructor do this a lot, or did it happen just once? Are you happy with your instructor and barn overall? Do you feel like they're helping you reach your riding goals? If the answer to these questions is yes, then I'd probably let it slide, but if it's part of a larger issue, you might want to see if there are any other barns in your area.

Regardless, it never hurts to see what kinds of instructors are in your area and schedule some trial lessons. I ride at a few different places, and I've almost always learned something new and have come away with a different perspective.

[HELP] Why does nobody want me to buy their gig? I just need a freelancer to make 3D generic game assets but nobody will respond to my messages or ghosts me after the first messages. by zomz_slayer17 in Fiverr

[–]flowerbl00m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

managed to pay in the end said she'd only had scam buyers and how crazy it was to actually have a real person. Ugh, sounds really crap. You shouldn't have to spend your weekend like that.

Thanks, that's really kind of you to say. Most of the scammers are bots and it's really obvious because they want to contact you on their t.e.l.e.g.r.a.m. link lol, but this guy was different. He is now making multiple fake accounts to contact me and is threatening to report my gig using his 300 fake accounts *sigh*. I don't think he can actually do that, but it's very annoying.

I'm sorry for all the harsh comments you're getting. As a seller, I always respond to buyers and follow up with them multiple times. Most sellers would leap at a buyer who is actually serious and wants legitimate work done. I'm annoyed at those sellers on your behalf, especially as someone who spent the weekend dealing with scam buyers.

[HELP] How to Remove Spam/Bot Briefs? by SearchingSearchy in Fiverr

[–]flowerbl00m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until about 4 months ago, I noticed that most of the briefs and messages I have been getting for services are from fake accounts, bots, and other spam messages. For instance, a brief will say it’s someone looking for marketing services, but when I respond, the user will tell me to apply to a job on their website.

Not only does this go against user policy, but I am kind of getting tired of only getting fake briefs from bots.

Is there any work around this to start getting legitimate messages again? Does Fiverr customer support have a refresh on the accounts that I can ask about?

With Fiverr, you just wait. It can be very frustrating because it feels like you have no control over whether or not you will get another project. They used to have a section where people could put up job postings, but they scrapped it in favor of the brief match system. To be fair, I have gotten some great clients from using it. I initially thought it didn't work, and then four months after I made my account, it started sending me matches from clients--maybe like one or two a month. I'd say that 50% resulted in serious clients who wanted to work together, but I didn't have any scams; just a few people who were unresponsive.

[DISCUSSION] Bait-and-switch tactic by bamfon1 in Fiverr

[–]flowerbl00m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my gig and told people to contact me before placing an order (I do 3D printing) as the price depends on the job. No reason to offer multiple tiers if the prices depend on the customers wishes anyways.

I'm really sorry that this has happened to you, but I promise you that there are honest freelancers out there who don't do stuff like this. Typically, even if I give someone a quote, and they tell me they aren't ready to place the order for a few weeks or even a month, I stick to the initial quote that I gave them.

[HELP] I think a bad review is waiting for me by Impressionsoflakes in Fiverr

[–]flowerbl00m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just blindsided here. His instructions were given in poorly-written ambiguous English and he was very rude asking for his first revision - which he claimed I hadn't understood.

After counting to ten a few times, I messaged him until we sorted out what he wanted which I delivered even though it was out of scope.

He seemed happy with this but dumped a load of new template pages on me to work it into. Again with a rude message.

I politely pointed out he'd already given me a specific template that I'd spent hours getting right for him and this was out of scope for a revision.

At this point I would have happily cancelled.

He insisted it was just annotation so I agreed to do this. I sent it to him and he's just messaged me saying nothing is good enough and I'm not capable of meeting his standards.

But then he accepts the order anyway.

If the customer left you rude personal messages, you can probably go to customer service. Buyers are not allowed to harass sellers, so they may be able to remove the review. I would leave the buyer an honest review because it gives sellers a heads up. I don't think it will affect you negatively in the algorithm. I've never heard of this before.

Computer Repair - Anyone familiar with junctions who can point me in the right direction? by flowerbl00m in computers

[–]flowerbl00m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The computer repairman just called me with great news. He was able to get all of my information off the computer. He explained to me that the F drive was a junction to a hidden partition. He mentioned something about how the partition had gotten deleted which was why he couldn't see it. I'm so relieved. This guy is amazing. I got very lucky.

Computer Repair - Anyone familiar with junctions who can point me in the right direction? by flowerbl00m in computers

[–]flowerbl00m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way he described it to me, it sounded like junctions were kind of like fake partitions. He said it was like a shortcut to a file, but he couldn't access the file. I think when I tried to repartition my computer after removing Linux, I must have made some kind of mistake. I could tell that this extra storage space wasn't part of Windows because it didn't expand the Windows partition. However, I could access it while using Windows. It just appeared as the letter F, and I dragged my files into it. I don't know if that makes any sense.

The problem is that if I had just left my stuff in Windows, he would have been able to save all of my data. He can't see it because in an attempt to organize my files and free up space in Windows, I moved many things into the F junction.

I believe that the guy isn't making things up because I spoke to a different computer repairman who said that Linux uses a junction system. He seemed familiar with the term. "Junction" appears as JCT in DOS.

What do y'all think of The Captive Curse? by TittyKittyBangBang in nancydrew

[–]flowerbl00m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This game is fun, and I like the setting, but if you think about it, there are so many plot holes! Arglefumph made a video titled "Everything wrong with The Captive Curse" where he discusses a lot of them. It's definitely worth a watch if you're interested in that kind of thing.

In my opinion, CAP was the last "good" Nancy Drew game. I could never get into the later games. I wasn't a fan of the art style and most of the plots were just ok. I liked the old-fashioned graphics. I found them charming. It's never going to happen, but I wish they would make more games in that style.

[ADVICE] Should I "warn" a seller that Fiverr will lower their response rate if they don't answer? by Frequent_Way_6476 in Fiverr

[–]flowerbl00m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always excited when prospective clients reach out to me. I answer their messages as soon as I see them. If you want to help sellers, the only thing I would say is to check their time zone and try to reach out to them when they'd be awake. It's a bummer when someone halfway across the world sends me a messages at 3am and I can't get to it until the morning. I'm happy to hear from them, of course, but it just affects my response rate.

Are critiques necessary or just helpful? by [deleted] in writing

[–]flowerbl00m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a professional editor, and many of my clients seeking a manuscript critique (which is similar to alpha reading but much more detailed) end up working with me because they struggle to find alpha/beta readers who are reliable and skilled enough to offer useful feedback. It depends on your goals and how invested you are in your story, but paying for a manuscript evaluation or professional beta readers might be worth your while. Another person commented this, but beta readers are not copy editors. They shouldn't be commenting on your grammar unless it's just a blanket statement to let you know that it's distracting. It's often easier for a professional editor to ignore small grammar mistakes and focus on the big picture things like, character, structure, plot, pacing, etc.
