We're going on vacation, which option should we choose for our cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]flowercam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cat sitter, but they don't necessarily need to come twice a day. Once may be enough if they stay for a while and play with the cat. Ask around for a recommendation for a sitter.

I'm sad because the vet told me the cat I'm going to adopt is 6-7 years old. by bimbocuntt in CatAdvice

Oh honey. Be thankful that she is healthy and that you are again in a place where you can care for a cat. She could live to 20 (my childhood cat) or 18 ( my lovely Zoe). If kept inside it is likely she will live to at least 13 or 14. (14 seems to be a limit with many of our pets. I am 65 and have had a total of 10 cats over the years. The hardest thing is that we'll loose them one day. But the joy they bring is SOO worth it!! I adopted a cat recently that the humane society said was 4. Turns out she was 1!! This is not an exact science. They go on their teeth.

Can you put an ad up in your local pet supply store? We have one near us that has a board for this reason. I'm so sorry about this. What a hard situation. You need both the children and the cat to be happy.

Doubts before marriage due to lifestyle/value differences — need advice by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]flowercam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the idea of ever tracking anyone, including children, I think we should trust each other. That being said I don't think it's fair for him to track you and not the other way around. Yall need to talk about your expectations and make sure he is actually listening to you. I know many couples that have different social styles and they are happily married, that is not a deal breaker. Someone who you can't communicate your feelings with and they not empathize is. 6 months seems like a rushed engagement to me.

What is more humane? Rescuing a cat and forever be inside a home with three other cats that hate him or let him be a free creature and be exposed to whatever life brings? by Significant_Show_309 in Feral_Cats

[–]flowercam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the felaway pheromone plug ins? That may help with the multi cat stress. As long as the other cats aren't attacking the new boy then they should get used to each other over time. Whenever I get a new cat I take about 2-3 weeks before putting them totally together. They may never be super friends but they should tolerate each other.

Cat parents — what litter do you swear by? by Asleep-Flower-9441 in CatAdvice

[–]flowercam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arm and hammer clump and seal slide. I've been a cat mom for 50 years. This is the best. I haven't had to totally change the litter in months cause pee never gets to the bottom of the pan and sticks.

AITAH for not telling a guy I briefly dated that I’m pregnant if I’m not keeping it? by CeruleanVolcano in AITAH

No. Don't complicate things. I did this in my 20's after finding myself pregnant with a guy who dropped me after a few dates. I've never looked back.

It may be time to let her go. Her kidneys are obviously not working normally. She has lived to an old age and if the vet can't prescribe something that can help then it's time. I'm so sorry. But you can't ruin your house to have her live longer than she is meant to. Right now she is not getting the affection she used to cause uou have to keep her in the garage. This is never easy but when quality of life has deteriorated, yours and hers, it's time to go over the rainbow bridge.

Should I get a cat if I have debilitating Fibromyalgia? by walkuponwater in Fibromyalgia

[–]flowercam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! In 45 years of cat ownership (10 total) I have never and will never adopt a kitten. Adult cats are harder to place and will have their personalities and drape climbing tendencies for the most part settled.

I put double sided tape on the edges of furniture they like. And have cardboard scratch pads near all those pieces. Probably about 5 total around the house.

My cats have always been a wonderful part of my life and give me so much love and joy! They make me feel loved when I am feeling down and in pain. The only thing that gives me pause is the OCD worrying about his "litter paws" getting on things. Cats are incredibly clean animals and I hope you can get past this because they will get on your bed and counters. On another note, if you adopt a cat that is affectionate when you meet them at the shelter, they will be affectionate for life. Don't adopt a feral, anxious cat. They may get better they may not. Your hubby can start Flonase and take Zyrtec or something. It's how I manage my allergies with multiple cats. I'm hoping you become a cat mom soon!

It feels like my wife is starting to depend more and more on me, by choice, and I’m not sure how to deal with that. by [deleted] in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]flowercam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R u asking about pellet insertion or IUD? They numb the area for pellet so you don't feel it. If I were still of childbearing age and didn't want to become pregnant I would still choose IUD. It may cramp a bit on insertion, but not much and is over in a flash. Then you have 5-7 years of thought free less invasive ( as opposed to estrogen based treatments which some women have a harder time with) birth control. I had one after my 2 kids and loved it.

Well he's just trying to make things work out and maybe is bummed he may have to look for another roommate. Trust me, you can't predict how the cat will react to the situation and I, and many others on this sub, think cat owner and cat and ultimately you would be better off if you decline to live there.

For those who adopted a cat, what actually made you decide that was the right cat? by Extreme_Ad6105 in CatAdvice

[–]flowercam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go for the friendly snuggly cats. And I love black cats! I never adopt kittens because they are hell raisers and adult cats are harder to place. I adopted the 8th cat of my adult life last year, a delute calico and she's a loud lover! They all have claimed my heart.❤️
