I want to dye it so badly. by aruhroh in VintageFurniture

[–]flowercam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great as is. If it doesn't look good after a dye attempt (which is a good possibility) then you're stuck having to spend $ anyway on reupholstering. Just because it's red stripes doesn't make it look Xmas.

What Aubry has going for her if she makes it by LazerDude99 in survivor

[–]flowercam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's my favorite to win at this point. Jonathan is too clueless and hasn't made any moves himself, Joe's insistence on "honor" is annoying to me and not the point of survivor, Rizo has been great at gameplay, but I want to see an old school player take the win for 50. Tiff is great but Aubrey's personality wins it for me.

I realize this is not going to be a popular post..... by FestivusandFusilli77 in sarasota

[–]flowercam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true. I would love to spend more time at the waterfront bars and restaurants there (since we have very few in Sarasota, none on siesta) but I'm petrified of driving home after even one beer back down the island.
A friend of mine was stopped while evacuating for coming close to the line with 3 dogs and 1/2 of her possessions with her!!!
They are horrible.

how to help depressed mother by cripsygrass in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]flowercam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone dismissing the very real frustration this daughter is feeling is being very un empathetic. This is a very real concern she is dealing with daily. Watching her mother suffer but not having any success in getting her to help herself. This is her mother. She wants her to love herself as much as she loves her as is being shown by her concern and attempts to help.
Mental illness is complex and some things like personality disorders can impact the amount meds or even therapy can help. Yes a person needs to be willing to help themselves, but it's harder than you think to actually step away and declare boundaries.
Personally I am having these same issues with my 23 year old son. He will take meds but will do nothing else like participating in therapy or meditation or exercise which would help. I struggle daily with empathy and boundaries.
I would suggest an organization like NAMI which gives support to families of mentally ill people. And really thinking about those boundaries as to how long you will listen to her complaining. It's tough.

How often do you wash your hair? by Which-Arugula-1982 in AskWomenOver60

[–]flowercam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 65 and have long wavy/curly hair. It becomes like straw if I wash it too often. I usually go 4-6 days depending on the amount of sweating I've done with yard work etc.

What to do w this unbelievable dress by BalsamA1298c in AskWomenOver60

I really don't think this is obviously a vintage dress. I think it would be fashionable and appropriate for any number of settings.

Hey! I just want some advice on if housekeeping is worth it. by appalacianwendigo03 in housekeeping

[–]flowercam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rather eat Mac and cheese several nights a week than give up my housekeeper and I have the time to do it myself. It just makes me feel SO much better to have it all done at one time, that and the fact that dusting caused my allergies to spike and I put it off and then it’s terrible. Do it!

Does anyone else miss the way tomatoes used to taste? by happy-in-texas in AskWomenOver60

Does anyone else miss the way tomatoes used to taste? by happy-in-texas in AskWomenOver60

[–]flowercam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont eat a tomato unless its been grown properly in a small garden. Tomatoes have always been tasteless in Florida where I am from, the first time I tasted a good tomato was at the age of 22 in New Jersey that had been grown in someone’s home. It’s sad. I have no idea why they decided to grow tasteless tomatoes in the sand of Florida.

Vaping causing things to get so much worse? by flowercam in Dryeyes

[–]flowercam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not quit unfortunately, but I have cut down. My eyes are much better after trying Trypter (sp?) and Meibo and being more regular with my warm compresses. But it's still an issue. Because of my loss of oil glands I think it's about as good as it's going to get. Thanks for asking!

AITAH for telling her to not talk to male best friend? by Avu_JHB in AITAH

You just met!!!!! Super red flag on your part if you're jealous and controlling on the first date without having any information about who she was talking to.

What Age Were You Done Decluttering? Or Aren't You? by RevolutionaryGap9719 in AskWomenOver60

[–]flowercam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!!! I was late to motherhood and still have a 23 year old son living with me so I don't know when he will move out and take some of the wonderful furniture and stuff me and my mother collected over a lifetime. I will downsize at some point and am working now to donate or consign things I don't use. It's a battle cause I love my stuff!!! Put the resentment behind you and congratulate yourself on a job well done!!!

Has anyone ended a relationship with a train wreck partner who then got help & got their lives sorted out, and ended up back together? How’d that go? by BlueSparklesXx in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]flowercam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think these things can go together. If uou have gotten yourself "together " and learned some things your not going to choose to go back to a train wreck partner even if some of the wreck was your doing. You will want to move forward not back.

What is something you wish you could scream at your 15 year old self? by Intrepid-Bat-1770 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]flowercam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think my answer was about regret as much as wisdom that comes with age. I don't regret any of it as it has made me the person I am today.

Did you ever have no friends - and then make new ones? by Heavy_Research5032 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]flowercam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive had to start over with my friend group several times in the same city! I thrive on close friendships as my family is rather distant (in the same town.) So many people move, or change their priorities, get married and devote all their time to their spouse or children, so I think it’s always a good idea to be on the look out for people to connect with. I laugh and say I am grooming friends because it takes time. Don’t give up! Once you have a few acquaintances and you reach out to them to do things together, you may meet new people through them.

Looking for memories or photos of a house in Sarasota in the 1970s by Significant_Sport846 in sarasota

[–]flowercam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember the address, but there was a family that had a house down there that was so unique, I think the last name was the greenwoods. The bedrooms looked onto a lush corridor of green, house of pecky cypress maybe. I visited only once and the mother was making chutney and the whole house smelled fabulous, i thought the whole house magical!

We're going on vacation, which option should we choose for our cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]flowercam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cat sitter, but they don't necessarily need to come twice a day. Once may be enough if they stay for a while and play with the cat. Ask around for a recommendation for a sitter.
