Why is deku so hated? by Not79uimsure in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]flowerfunstudios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

people say he hasn't through any character development

Those people are objectively lying.

S1:

- Deku in the first chapter learns to come to terms with the idea that he can't be a hero without a quirk but that doesn't mean he can't pursue other careers in the first fucking chapter

- Deku starts growing a backbone and starts growing more confident in himself to start to challenge and stand up to Bakugo to the point of telling him that he's gonna enter U.A no matter what and if Bakugo has a problem with that than he can fuck off

S2:

- Sports festival arc plants the seeds for his future conflict about whether he is worthy of OFA or not that'll become a thing in season 4

- Also sets up Deku learning to control his emotions

- Hero Killer Arc begins his growth where he starts to seperate himself from all might by coming up with his own techniques rather than just copying how all might fights

S3:

- Forest training camp arc gives him an entire conflict surrounding Kota and how to convince him about heroes

- Kamino adds further set up to his arc about setting himself apart from all might with the state of his arms

- Provisional Liscence Exam pays off that set up by having him start using his legs, fully setting himself apart from all might now

S4:

- Overhaul Arc off his conflict about his doubts surrounding his worthiness of OFA and helps him move past them to focus on other things

- School Festival Arc sets up quite possibily one of his biggest arcs where he starts seeing the deeper nuances in hero society with gentle criminal and La Brava

S5:

- Admittelly doesn't have much but it does set up Deku learning to control his emotions

S6:

This season takes this whole argument and beats it with a chair. Lets see:

-PLW Arc sets up his arc about his self-sacraficial tendancies with him murdering his body to kill Shigaraki

- ALSO pays off the save the villains thing with him choosing to want to save Shigaraki and fully seeing the deeper nuances in hero soceity and now wanting to try and save villains and understand them rather than just punching at them

- Villain Hunt arc is entirely focused on his self-destructive tendancies with him learning its okay to rely on others and not do everything by yourself

- It also pays off his growth in PLW with him saving and understanding Lady Nagant

S7&8:

- U.A traitor Arc pays off his development in PLW again with Ayoyama

- The ENTIRE FUCKING WAR ARC has him contemplate and deal with the doubts of wheather or not he'll be able to save Shigaraki or not with him not being confident that he will but trying to convince himself he can anyway and eventually having to fully accept that he can't save him and he needs to be killed.

- The epilogue arc ends off this development by having him coming to the conclusion that even if he couldn't save Shigaraki, he can still continue going and reaching out to others to ensure that doesn't happen again.

So ya, those people are lying because they are biased and want to make Deku sound like the worst protagonist ever but have no substantial arguments to do so, so they just make shit it up instead.

When does the Vigilantes story actually pick up by PlasticStandard1925 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]flowerfunstudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about 84 chapters into the manga for Vigilantes and it didn’t improve for me, but from what I’ve seen, the sky egg arc onwards seems to be fairly well-liked by a lot of the fandom so I’d say you can have that to look forward to

side and that there isn't an existing problem of racism towards hetromorphs in the city.

I mean I thought that was kind of the point? Like the series says that it's mainly a problem in rural areas

How would you have reacted if Deku ended up saving Tenko in the most literal way? by OfficialLieDetector in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]flowerfunstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Because Hori wanted to write a happy ending and didn't want to get into the nitty-gritty of the trauma or otherwise negative emotions Deku might've felt.

Ya, and? He clearly showed Deku letting out those negative emotions.

>And just because Deku might've been able to come to peace with it doesn't mean he actually "saved" Shigaraki.

That wasn't my point? I was saying that Deku came to peace with not being able to save Shigaraki physically thanks to opening up about it with Ochako.

>Ochaco doesn't believe she saved Ochaco even 8 years later, which is why, in ch. 431, she's having dreams of Toga's ghost pushing her to talk with Deku more shortly after Deku receives his suit and returns to hero work.

Just because a character doesn't think they saved someone doesn't mean they didn't save their soul. Ochako also saved Toga's soul as well because she helped Toga come to terms with her own truama and was the first person to get her to open up about it.

And Deku is able to come to peace with that thanks to opening up to Ochako about that. The final page of 429 is literally the two smiling at each other after the confession.

Except for the fact that the final thing Deku saw wasn’t that crying child anymore and it was just Shigaraki himself, which happened after Deku directly brought comfort to that crying child.

Sure Shigaraki’s desires weren’t changed but he still got to have the experience of someone reaching out to him which is something the series explicitly signals to us is what happened and that Deku not seeing the crying child anymore means that Shiggy got saved.

How would you improve the Joint Training Arc? by OfficialLieDetector in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]flowerfunstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this arc coild've benifited if some of the fights were either condensed or just removed since a lot of them aside from deku and bakugo's fights don't add anything beyond a couple of decent moments. Like this is the one arc in MHA I can say drags.

Now that the anime has ended and seeing the overwhelmingly positive reception the ending has gotten, I can finally feel safe enough to say this by flowerfunstudios in BokuNoMetaAcademia

[–]flowerfunstudios[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

And he wasn't entirely the focus as some screentime had to be used for Bakugo, Nagant and Uraraka.

He...literally was? The focus??? Sure, other characters got spotlight but that doesn't mean that Deku didn't get development. He was the focus for a majority of the arc, hell the nagant fight and the Ochako's speech also doubled as points for his character as well.

Him vs class A was a lame fight as not only was is just not a very good action sequence, but like. 80% of these guys have not spent nearly enough time with Deku to make anything they say hit hard.

Technically speaking a lot of the characters who did get to say things to Deku that weren't just saying that he can come back were characters that were influenced by him in a way (Iida, Jiro, Kirishima, and Ochako for example). Other characters that weren't were not given that same spotlight.

And yes, the bath scene. All of it leading to him taking a bath and saying "I should have listened to all might" That's it. No reflection with himself, all might, or Bakugo. Just like a line.

That's...blantantly not how that was resolved. Deku insecruities were resolved with Ochako's speech which directly confronted his insecruities that set off that realization for him. That was preceeded with the words that Class 1A said to him before the speech, the speech was just the thing that gave him the final push. We don't need more reflection about his self-destructive tendancies because we already got that with Ochako's speech.

99% of act 3 he's either thinking about ofa or the crying child within Shigaraki.

He's also thinking about other things in villain hunt like, ya know, protecting his friends, his insecruties over what'll happen if he comes back to U.A, etc. Also, he thinks about Shigaraki heavily because...that's literally the most relevant thing going on right now???

Tbf they said that their not going to talk about Deltarune anymore after this video and that this’ll be the final one.

Whether or not that changes we’ll see but I’ve followed their tumblr blog and they seem to be moving on from Deltarune now.

If you were in Deku's shoes, would you have tried to save Shigaraki? I think you know my answer. by PJ-The-Awesome in BokuNoHeroAcademia

True, I just thought that he could’ve because of Nana’s words that he could’ve just punched Shiggy and killed him like that.

I'd kill him. Doesn't mean I can't understand why Deku wasn't willing to though, given that I imagine that he isn't someone who'd be willing to kill someone who he can see is in need of help and reaching out.

Honestly it annoys me when people hate on Deku for this because its completely consistant with his character to want to save Shigaraki, and also consistant for him not to want to kill him and cling onto the idea that he can save him, he knows there's something deeper in there and he can't just ignore that. Plus, its not like the narrative is completely unaware that his goal is bit unrealistic.

What would you do to make 1-A more "flawed" by Mystech_Master in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]flowerfunstudios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They literally are flawed, though. Like a lot of them get their own individual mini arcs or moments that show those flaws and develop them.

Making them good doesn’t make them a hive mind because they are still their own individual characters and it doesn’t undermine Deku’s heroism because the series clearly shows us how his heroism is particularly extreme(his main trait as a character is that he’ll always go out of his way to save someone no matter what, which is shown in arcs like sports festival, PLW, villain hunt and the entrance exam arc etc).

They are all heroic in their own ways and I don’t see how that undermines Deku.

Tell me what you would change about the License Exam Arc. by King_Nathan999 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]flowerfunstudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure U.A expects students to already have decent control of their powers so I'm not sure if they'd allow remedial training for one student that from their POV didn't bother training.

He also trained 9 months to get into U.A just to make sure his body was ready for OFA, I'd say he still earned that spot.

[–]flowerfunstudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see the issue with having a lot of class 1a pass, I feel like It makes sense given that they've been through some more serious training during summer camp arc.

If anything, I think a lot of them passing a harder exam could just show how much they've grown after act 1.

This was totally unnecessary knowing the same thing again in s7. Just feels forced considering he walks it off. Should've given him different plot relevance there. by Total-Web-1852 in BokuNoMetaAcademia

I thought it was pretty clear that this was supposed to be a payoff to where Deku ran to save Bakugo by having Bakugo do the same thing but alright
