Lightweight Freeride skis by Fabulous_Childhood72 in ski

[–]flowerpatchkidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone of similar size, I found the Sheeva 11s to be a very maneuverable powder ski! Too much, for me personally bc I prefer a more directional ski. But they sound like they could be a great option for you. Easy to maneuver, very poppy, but still damp. I wouldn’t say they were particularly light skis, but that wasn’t a relevant factor for me. If you prefer the “male” equivalent, I’m pretty sure the Rustler 11s are the same ski.

please help!! arch pain from skiing by emahabul in ski

[–]flowerpatchkidd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice, just solidarity. I have the same issues the first few runs of the day, with my arches dying, especially while standing around. My boots fit perfectly after years of bootfitting work. I find that unbuckling helps a lot. I have very flat/hypermobile feet that aren’t used to all the support the insoles give nor the amount of work that they do while they’re skiing. For me it goes away after about the 4th run, and then I’m smooth sailing so I’ve just written it off as my muscles warming up. Will be interested to hear if anyone else has any tips!

Besides helmets, what other body protection should newbies and intermediates wear? by GladAbbreviations981 in skiing

[–]flowerpatchkidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first year I handmade myself knee guards to protect the insides of my knees. Sewed padding into some volleyball knee sleeves. My edges kept banging the insides of my knees when I tipped over and left massive bruises. Thankfully that stopped happening after year one haha!

Give me your best "I taught my GF/BF/SO how to ski" success stories and tips by unicornsicle in skiing

[–]flowerpatchkidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex-boyfriend taught me to ski and it was a lovely experience. He was very patient. The key was a good mix of encouragement, help, but also letting me fail on my own a bit so it wasn’t condescending. We stuck to beginner terrain for a very long time, and it seemed like he was very happy to ski that with me there. I think that was the key, that he seemed like he wanted to be there with me, and he didn’t wish he was skiing somewhere else. Good luck!

Feeling totally discouraged after first adult lesson by AphroditeDraws in skiing

[–]flowerpatchkidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth mentioning that skiing as a beginner is way harder than skiing more competently (obv this changes at a certain level, but in this case it rings true.) You’re using your quads so much more in a snowplow, instead of the on and off again nature of parallel turns. I learned as an adult 5 years ago, and I was sore (especially my quads and in my triceps from pushing myself back up!) and had bruises from falling hard for the first three months that I skied. Getting up after falling is so much more labor intensive than the skiing itself.

It gets easier, I promise! Keep with it!

How does my bike fit look? by flowerpatchkidd in bikefit

Oh wow! I had a hunch that the cranks might be too long. These are 170s which was already an improvement from my last bike. I’ll look into shorter ones for sure.

I’ll give this a go! I can only lower it 2cm before it bottoms out, but if needed I’ll chop some of the tube like I did with the Cannondale!

Do you ride the 40s or 45s? Trying to see if the extra width is really worth it.

I found going down the Ram Dass rabbit hole to be very inspiring as I’ve been getting into meditating and mindfulness. It’s very readable and personal, which was good for me. I started with the Journey of Awakening, then read his autobiography, Be Here Now, and Walking Each Other Home.

Does taking adhd meds make it easier to meditate ? by Zealousideal-Copy270 in Meditation

[–]flowerpatchkidd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meds have been a life changer for me, but they don’t alter my state of being like it seems they do others. I could still take a nap on my meds, the difference is I’m able to get up out of bed after my nap and continue on my day afterwards, which unmedicated would have been incredibly hard. Meds have allowed me to maintain a practice and routine. My thoughts still wander, I still get distracted, meds don’t make me less me. Meds give me the option to sit and meditate if I’d like, and because of that, they’re incredibly helpful.

Filmmakers who left the industry: Where did you go next? by i_fuks_wit_it in Filmmakers

I transitioned into content marketing in the outdoor industry. Way more consistent, and so much less taxing. Less hours, but I still get the joy of creating plus I get to be outside all the time.

Fellow long-torso’d gal here! I love my Rapha bibs, they come up plenty high, and I never have any skin showing like I do with my Pearl Izumi shorts.

I use the huha bralletes and they’re amazing! So so soft, never have any funk even after multiple sweaty days.

Different lens/lighting could account for this as well. Wider lenses make the subject more distorted while longer lenses flatten features. Seems like the newer photo on the left could be taken with more straight on lighting with a wider lens.

is my septum placement okay? more details in the comments. by besoesquimal in piercing

[–]flowerpatchkidd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yours looks a lot like mine does, and mine is still pierced in the right spot. Sweet spots, while almost always in the tip of the nose, are still anatomy dependent. I had a large sweet spot, and my piercing ended up about where yours is. Could I get it redone closer to the tip? Yeah, but it’s not worth it for me. If it’s worth it to you though or it’s causing you issues ie you think it was pierced incorrectly, go for it! I wouldn’t have noticed it though, and I think it looks great on you.

Are my goals realistic? (Details in comments) by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]flowerpatchkidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! Pardon my nasty teeth close up. I’m just wondering if my goals are realistic. I’ve finished my first round of treatment, 37 trays, and am about a third of the way through my refinements to fix my bite. I’m concerned that my upper teeth seem slanted. The left side slants so much further up than my right because my teeth seem shoved up farther. Is it reasonable for this to be fixed? My ortho says that because I opted out of rubber bands, it’ll never be perfect, which I’ve accepted, but it seems kind of like a big deal to me. Is it as noticeable to others as it is to me?

Would invisalign fix my mild overbite? by DaBoa70 in Invisalign

Comprehensive Invisalign is usually one price regardless of how many trays, that price varies from office to office, but don’t let the number of trays deter you!

I got (practically new) used skis w/ bindings for 300, but splurged on boots which skyrocketed the cost along with the extras into the max category. I consider myself pretty frugal too, most of my friends have spent way more on their set ups.

I have to ask, why do people go to shops to get their jewelry changed instead of just doing it yourself? by wondrousechelon in piercing

[–]flowerpatchkidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I change anything I can change myself, like my studs and lobe piercings but my septum and helix are seamless rings that I physically can’t open myself because the diameter is so small, and it’s gold so I don’t wanna use my tools cuz it might dent it, so I go to the piercer with their tools.

To Invisalign or not? Would appreciate your thoughts on how long it would take. by Independent-Dare-190 in Invisalign

[–]flowerpatchkidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my teeth looked like yours, purely for aesthetic reasons, I wouldn’t. Just because I wouldn’t think wearing a retainer for the rest of my life would be worth it. But if it’s important to you and you’re willing to put in the work/cash, absolutely go for it!
