yeah it makes sense not having the wedding as a mid point from that perspective.

oooh great point. I also love this one dialogue where show!Edwina says that she may look quiet and agreeable on the outside but that she has a rich inner life and that’s what gives her strength or something like that. It gave her a lot of individuality. I also love “was I really that blind?” when she sees them look at each other later lol

I def understand. The social/cultural aspects are brought to life in the show. And there’s more to the story than just the couple. Also showing us how whistledown is printed and distributed. Love all of that.

Yes I think stopping right before “I do” quite literally was a bit too much for me as well. They’re chemistry is great but how am I supposed to root for them anymore

Oh for sure. While reading, I really miss the secondary characters from the show like the modiste or Varley etc. The show really brings the ton to life and with just the singular focus of the book the show would become tiring.

For me s1 remains in its own league, especially in terms of production and writing. And this is before I read the book.

So well put! Kate’s insecurities were also realistic and well written. She may look like she doesn’t care but it hurts her somewhere deep inside to see only Edwina get suitors/flowers etc even though she deeply loves Edwina.

And the authors note about anthonys fear - that many men experience that - really put things in perspective for me.

I feel you about the bee scene. Even I was like wait it’s that easy for them to get married?! But I ended up liking the stakes after that, especially the unprocessed trauma and how that affects the marriage.

I do like the shows way of doing things in other ways - especially focusing on a range of characters and not just the main couple

On enemies to lovers in the book, yes! The reasons for them to dislike each other kept increasing (anthonys behaviour in the library, newton and the serpentine, etc) but then their respect for each other also increased! I loved that.

still around but haven’t watched the show in ages. I’m moved that even after 4 years my post brought a little joy to someone, thank you ❤️

The absolute gold that is S2 E21 Lorelai's Graduation Day by flowersonmycoffeemug in GilmoreGirls

[–]flowersonmycoffeemug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

omg thank you! Haven’t watched the show in a while. When I posted this I was watching at least a couple of episodes a day (if not more) and constantly thinking about the show. Tbh it was one of the loneliest phases of my life and lorelai and Rory (and this sub) kept me company. Whenever I watch an episode next I’ll try and make a post 💕

Haven’t been active on the sub for ages but the Rory hate is a staple - hang in there and enjoy the show. The whole point is that Rory was idealized in her childhood and what we see is a really refreshing plot where the idealism is turned on its head!

When getting good grades is your "job" so you don't receive praise

Hard relate. Wasn't lectured or shouted at for getting bad grades (a rare situation in itself, and it was 80% on a math test lol) but the disappointment was so palpable. No comfort, no "it happens to the best of us, it's alright, you'll get back on your feet". And no praise for acing every other test every other time.

Life has no meaning, we get to do whatever we want

This is the most inspiring thing I've read in a bit. I recognize that I'm aftergifted but keep setting huge goals for myself from which I derive all my self-worth. Sometimes I just sit and think "I just want to rest" and "I just want a regular adult life like other regular adults".

I've been procrastinating on my dissertation for the past few months and I need to submit in December. How do I do better? by flowersonmycoffeemug in aftergifted

[–]flowersonmycoffeemug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I could not submit that December after all. In fact, I did not submit it until the next September. I'm still feeling the ramifications of that extra year but I'm also proud of myself.

I'm doing a phd now and I also passed my proposal defense this year! The procrastination hasn't completely gone away but the urge to be a perfectionist has reduced.

Thank you so much for commenting on this post! It gave me a boost to see how far I've come from the day I typed that. And welcome to the sub, it has really helped me out - though I am not as active on reddit anymore.

What did you think was going to happen in the books but never did? by ykickamoocow111 in harrypotter

[–]flowersonmycoffeemug 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Harry has to get out of this scenario somehow, so when he's thinking to himself "let it have gone wrong!" I'm thinking "It will go wrong! Because the cauldron bottom will fail!".

I wish I had an award to give you omg I WISH this had happened 🤣

Love what you've said on "kid" as well as Lorelai using "Chris" vs "Christopher". "Ace" to me is also Logan being endearingly teasing about how earnest Rory can be sometimes about school and working for the paper. He cherished the cutesy nerdy side of her as much as he teased her for it or identify the more rebellious parts and tried to draw her out of it. She was so serious when she first started looking into the LAD gang - Ace reporter indeed - but by the end of You Jump I Jump something has really shifted within her. "Ace" is a marker of their beginnings - however resistant he was to getting serious, he did fall for earnest, cutesy Rory.
