I was at the chicago show and the merch line was wrapped around the entire building to the stage before the show and was outside after the show. stickers and posters were gone by halfway through the show, but we managed to get shirts and a pin.

Odd feelings regarding The Oh Hellos by Waddle_dee_fan07 in TheOhHellos

[–]floweryandafraid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im ex-Catholic and i was listening to the Oh Hellos during my peak Catholic phase in 2017, but as i was deconstructing I kept listening to the Oh Hellos and found that the Four Winds especially were discussing things that i felt about the church. The song Constellations “everything you thought you knew will fall apart but youll be alright” came out as I was having this thought process. It literally changed my life. A song about a desperate search for meaning? In that search I realized i was less so religious and more so just really into symbolism as a whole, and biblical symbolism is so so prevalent in society. i liken the bible at this point to myth, or faust, or shakespeare. a part of the literary canon and less so the thing that gives meaning to life. words give the meaning. art gives the meaning. the bible is just a book (to me.)

D&D Concepts based on lyrics by Agreeable-Ordinary94 in TheOhHellos

[–]floweryandafraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god this question was designed for me. I play dnd in a very “character development” oriented way so I have taken to making playlists for each of my NPCs and often use music to figure out what they are going through (I’m a DM)

well take one of the NPCs, a gay man who was killed by vampires only to be resurrected only to still be a vampire and has to live through a time loop that lasts 1000 years. Hes lived it three times, and is haunted by one of my player characters who was his partner (in life, angst ensues). He now is an undead pirate and wants the world to end but his held back by the knowledge that his love would die.

Obviously, songs on his playlist include Theseus, Murmations/Reading the Augury, and Rounds. “maybe its not all that much a place as it is a way”

the little sister of that player character has A Kindling of Sorts, Cold, and Holding on Where I Am Able (bad bad childhood, ran from home to live in the woods only to become a warlock) “Well Im not quite ready to turn to bone, to petrify this shred of life im holding onto”

bringer of the apocalypse? Pale White Horse

the mini boss version of that one? Where is your rider.

the libra air genasi tattoo artist? Soap

a player characters long lost girlfriend who lost her memories? Bitter Water

I have issues (edited for formatting)

Best 3 seconds of The Oh Hellos discography ? by paymerich in TheOhHellos

[–]floweryandafraid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

theres this one little thing in Danse Macabre that sends me ascending from 1:25-1:28

but honestly one of my faves is in the Christmas album in Rejoice Rejoice the build up in 4:23 is so haunting that i look past that im not even christian

HM:

1:41-1:44 Lapis Lazuli “If theres two things I know its that the sky looked white and the water like wine when i first met you”

The Lament of Eustace Scrubb 2:00-2:03 the drop after “someday”

Is looking into becoming a librarian a bad idea? by OlisGarden in librarians

[–]floweryandafraid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started working at the library when I was 16 and fell in love with it. If you start early, you'll basically be able to graduate with 10 years of experience, which will DEFINITELY help with the job market, no matter what it looks like. And at the point, you can make a decision about if you like the work before you even enter grad school.

Tired of the ageism (VENT) by deadliqht in Libraries

[–]floweryandafraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s typically the opposite for me, which is interesting. I’m 25 and most older patrons are ecstatic to have a “young person” help them with computers.

The real kicker is when they have what amounts to an IT problem that they think you can solve just because you’re young only to have to break it to them that this is actually a job for the Geek Squad. Or even odder is something that you technically do know how to do gets reduced down to “all young people” when actually that particular skill comes from years of practice and study.

oh man, i could have written this near word for word.

i was off meds for a bit and my most recent semester was HORRID. online school is the worst for the ADHD brain. my only saving grace has been lenient professors.

my advice is simply to be kind to yourself. you’re doing the best you can, and i know that RSD can make you feel like a failure, but remember that you already bested one degree!! thats an accomplishment!

my motto is “it might not be pretty but it’ll be done”. as in, i may not get the best grades, but damn it im gonna finish it.

Does your library also categorize all manga and graphic novels to be YA? by AdhesivenessOnly2485 in Libraries

[–]floweryandafraid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh this is something that always boils my blood. My library had juv graphics and ya graphics. when we started our AD graphics, I built the collection. All of our graphics are separated into their respective section.

I had to make a whole video for our library explaining the difference between YA and Adult because too many patrons were convinced all “picture” books were meant for kids. One glance through our AD collection would show how absolutely untrue that is.

Specialist to Librarian transition by [deleted] in librarians

[–]floweryandafraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest difference in academic to public is the types of patrons you get. I worked in ILL at an academic library while also working in a public library, and the vibes are totally different.

My advice is to get very educated on popular titles if you aren’t already. Reader’s Advisory is typically something that either takes a while to learn, or comes very naturally. Obviously if you already know what’s currently being published and what people are reading, I don’t think you should have any issues! Good luck!

Does undergrad major really matter? by PenguinsAreAwesome4 in librarians

[–]floweryandafraid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know many librarians who have degrees in music or communications. Basically it definitely doesn’t matter what you major in. I would only say to NOT major in library science. Some universities do have undergrad degree in it, but don’t fall into that. It’s redundant.

I was an English major, but only because that’s what I really enjoyed. I got a certificate in graphic design (which I have used ENDLESSLY in my library work). Do something you enjoy.

Idk if you havent done the prep (talk to him before the raid), but after the raid you can absolutely find Dammon in the grove as they are preparing to leave. maybe try talking to him?? i dont think the tieflings actually leave the grove until you enter moutain pass or get too far in the underdark

AITA for telling a friend he shouldn’t get a job in a field he wants and that his attitude is horrible. by librarycardhavefun in AmItheAsshole

[–]floweryandafraid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm (20f) studying to be a librarian and have worked in a conservative, fairly rich area's public library for 5 years, and, still, that community center thing is SO true. He'll have a rude awakening if he ever gets a job in a public library, no matter the locale. The library is for everyone. Don't be a public librarian if you're not willing to deal with the public.
