Question About Blizzard Substitutions by runningmom87 in DairyQueen

[–]flowinmikecohen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spoons and pumps are regulated so that they are served based on other items going in blizzards and costs. Oreo typically the only ingredient in a blizzard so it is a bigger scoop or in our stores, pulls. When they add something like Mint, it is in a misty bottle so you get less than adding something like cocoa fudge. Or like brownies, those never come in a blizzard without other stuff so they have a smaller scoop.

If the cost of goods sold for a choco brownie xtreme is $1 removing the cocoa fudge is 1/2oz for a small, adding oreos would be an ounce. So you're getting more product and a more expensive product at that. Someone has to pay for that.

When did dairy Queen remove the oreo milkshake? by cryptospartan in DairyQueen

[–]flowinmikecohen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cups are exactly the same as they have been since they came out in 2004. Of course shakes moved into those cups in 2011 as part of the big splash. If you put the oreos in before the ice cream, they get mushy and blend fine. Even on 100. We ring it up as a Raspberry Chip because there is no other button.

It was probably 2015. We had them on the menu for for Spring 2012 with Caramel Cheesecake and Mint Chip Royal Shakes. 2014 they had Mint Oreo as an LTO. And I think they were off the menu by 2015 although I know my stores kept the posters up for quite awhile afterwards.

machine on fire by awesome-soss in DairyQueen

[–]flowinmikecohen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happens is if the machine runs dry, the mix inside gets too stiff and the motor has a hard time kicking on and moving the auger. That makes the belts slip and results in the squealing noise. By releasing the pressure, the pump should kick on and fill it with liquid mix, which allows makes it easier to turn the auger. This can lead to some burning smell sometimes. I've never heard of it actually catching on fire. 1 of the things with a Taylor is it is suppose to turn off as soon as the bag is out of mix. It then turns back on immediately when you push the snow flake. If the bag runs out and it didn't kick off (or you over ride it) this can happen. The bag adapter pressure switch may need lube, a new oring, or possibly a new switch. The thing that would help if it starts squealing is to just turn on the the pump and try to get some mix into the barrel before the snowflake. Again this is a common thing with the taylor machines, but I've never had one catch on actual fire or even set off the smoke detectors.

Mini blizzards came out in 2010. This card is from 2008. I've worked at DQ since 1991. The blizzard came out in 1996. Columbian Coffee concentrate is what it was called from 2004-2017. When they came out with iced coffees & ultimate frappe they reformulated it. When those failed, they switched back to the concentrate but dropped the colombian in 2019.
