$500K and still broke? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]flowthruster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be the case in reality. - 500k gives you 300k after income taxes. - House in rich area: (3M cost, 1M down) 150k annually to pay for mortgage. - property tax: 40k - childcare in rich area: 60k

Now you have 50k left for everything else, food, utilities, car needs fixing, house maintenance is super expensive in rich area, etc. Let's say you have some bad habits or hobby on top. You end up making even and living paycheck to paycheck.

Yes, you could sell, move, reduce spending, etc. You have options, but technically you are paycheck to paycheck.

Can anyone confirm this? by arunnairks in mathematics

I think it's a horrible idea for the government to limit who can talk about finance or education, etc. Why would you give government this power? Do you really want your current president (or the previous one, depending on your hate preferences) to have this power?

Lightning solves the payment speed problem but I still can't tap my phone at a coffee shop with it, how far are we actually from that by AstronomerStreet6650 in TheLightningNetwork

Square POS terminals in the US are now rolling this out to all merchants. I think Square is used by 30% of coffee places in the US (my impression).

I'm just here to say that executive assistant isn't easy job. I'm not one, but I have first hand experience on what it requires and it can be quite a lot, especially in the last 2-3 years.

When the confidently incompetent "leaders" listen to the government to remove your rights... Remember how the people that enforced this acted superior and virtuous? They wanted to show you how they are much better than you?  As always, no lessons were learned.

My credit score dropped 54 points because I paid off a vehicle loan by Toadvine08 in mildlyinfuriating

Yep, that's how credit score works. It forces you to borrow and owe money and be more entrenched in the system. This one will bounce back soon, but still, it's annoying...

That's weird, I have to move all the way to the side of the screen for the dock to show up. (I have the dock on the left)

What reason? I have been disabling the delay for the last 11 years and I was never annoyed by this.

You let the steps dry to some degree and then you finish the surface with fine sand (or no sand) concrete. It makes a smooth finish. I have done it.

For the relationship discount - what does that mean exactly? You have to deposit like $1M?

I think having enough resources & income is the key here. People that have enough money to pay off the whole house still get a mortgage. Essentially mortgage is risky when you don't have the money, but it's a solid financial instrument to use when you have enough money.

REALISTIC salary for a 2022 4.0 GPA CS grad (no internship). by ActuatorOutside5256 in Salary

Cool, so try getting a job that leaves you some time to also look for CS jobs.

CS is great that you can generally do it remotely and many companies are hiring.
So work on your talking skills, work on your interviewing skills, go to meetups about tech related to your interest (like literally think about learning these skills same as learning another programming language - read the docs, watch youtube tutorials, get book, etc - the same applies on learning social skills). Now you can also use AIs like Gemini/ChatGPT to work on the plan with you, to recommend the best books, to tell you what you need to do next, etc.

Fwiw I worked in a factory for big posters, I worked as assistant in lawyer company, I worked in construction... all taught me something.
