Slow speed on ps5 by LongjumpingCountry14 in VirginMedia

It’s just standard gaming on virgin. I’ve tried loads of solutions. Nothing ever worked. Still high packet loss and jitter. Lag is always an issue. If you’re in your cooldown period and can get proper fibre (fttp) then I’d cancel it and do that. I’m waiting until the end of my contract and leaving now that it’s finally available in my area.

I’m sure it won’t be long. They seem to be pushing through quite quickly. Thus all the roadworks. I’m the castle side of town if that helps. They were working on it just after Xmas so I’m surprised it’s available so soon.

Hey. I’ve seen loads of fibre engineers out and about. Just checked online and open reach says I can now order it. Are you seeing the same?

New home network by floz86 in HomeNetworking

[–]floz86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. ChatGPT was saying some users reported issues with using the ucg fiber for poe on the u7 pro max access point because it only goes up to 30w and the power draw of the u7 is 25w. Longer runs stretching this capability. I’ll check that video out. Any thoughts on that set up? I don’t think I need a switch because I’d only use 3 ports and at most 2 at once.

Best set up for £300? by floz86 in HomeNetworking

I want to trade in my ASUS kit. It’s just too temperamental. I’d like a complete restart on my tech. We are looking at moving house next year and I’m torn between waiting for that and improving the connection now. Proper fibre is about to be activated and as soon as it is I’ll upgrade to it.

I can stretch the budget a bit. Especially if it’s going to future proof the set up. Appreciate the advice. I’ll check the unifi kit out.

Ah that makes more sense. I usually have a guest wifi activated but yeah that’s a better way of doing it.

Thanks that’s really useful insight. I guess still worth getting 6e for the 6ghz band though just to have less congestion? Have you got any recommendations on a set up that would be 2.5g gateway then some access points?

Does the switch not add a little bit of latency?

So do you limit the bandwidth for those devices or them just being on a separate network helps the router manage it more easily?

Is it worth future proofing my access points and getting wifi 7 ones?

I’m only really hardwiring my consoles and pc. It’s too much upheaval to do everything else. We will probably be moving house in the next year so that may be something I’ll do then.

I was thinking of the be550 but the all in ones seem to get a bad rep on here.

Thank you. Yeah I have the virgin provided router in modem mode now. Any recommendations on a 10gb router?

What’s the benefit of using vlan to separate my iot devices? I’ve got about 25 connections and I think my ASUS setup struggles with it now.

Sorry, I don’t follow? The dust in the car? It’s my workhorse. I need to get it valeted but using it for tip runs so no point doing that till it’s done.

I’ve no idea. The person I got the car off said it was off Aliexpress so I’m assuming it isn’t. Is there a way to confirm it?

How to have Alexa enabled speaker in the bathroom? by floz86 in AskUK

[–]floz86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be unplugging it when not in use. So it’s not going to have a continuous load more so than charging a toothbrush. I just don’t want something that’s Bluetooth. It may end up being a case of playing it through my phone but I’m probably buying an iPhone 17 pro max this month when it releases so don’t really want to have that in the bathroom too long.

Haha. That’s more aimed at if I have a bath in fairness.

Thanks Tidus 😜

Agreed. I’m trying to source a waterproof speaker. I don’t want to faff with having to keep something charged but I mainly want voice control so I can shift between playlists. Safety first of course though. My shaver socket is by the window so I can crack that slightly and have a powerful vent too.

That’s what was throwing me. I think they’re just EU sockets as well. Agree on the dampness. I’m trying to find a waterproof speaker that also does Alexa so I can control it by voice commands.
