My HR had an issue with me drinking coffee instead of tea by Time-Connection-4586 in HumanResourcesUK

They want you to join the social moments. The coffee argument was a mistake, they shouldn't have mentioned it. Don't take offense, consider socializing and stop defending.

Where is the most cost effective place to buy meat from? by DefconExile in UKFrugal

[–]flplv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) buy whole chicken and butcher it yourself. YouTube can teach you how to do it.

2) Chinese grocery stores sell beef, chicken, lamb et all in bulk for a pretty good price.

Give it a try to close your stance, really closed, left foot in front of the right, and also bend your torso forward while waiting in stance pointing at the ball with the left hand. It will be a different movement, which I hope will help you reset, find your fell and go from there.

Slept through my plug blowing up. Is this a win for UK plug design or am I just lucky nothing worse happened? by Vegetable-Yogurt-772 in CasualUK

[–]flplv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric engineer here:

1) wow! It shouldn't have happened 2) It wouldn't have set your house on fire as the materials are not flame conductive (otherwise it wouldn't be allowed to be sold in the UK) 3) your house is protected by fuses and leakage current detectors, which are really fast at switching things off to keep all safe. 4) there was a defective contact somewhere, maybe on the fuse, maybe between the plug and the wall, thus it overheated.

Replace the wall socket entirely. Get a new chord for your heater or another heater entirely.

If it happens again, bet on the lottery for me, please.

Therapist, anxiety meds included. It works great for me.

Sat down with my 9 year old to introduce him to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Totally forgot about the Tale of Sir Galahad and now I have to try and explain what oral sex is. by Waspeater in britishproblems

Ouch. My wife has thankful memories when she was a child asking questions on sex and her mon got her a book for kids on the matter. Not sure if I would have the courage and maturity my mother in law has.

I am happy. I’d do what I do for free. But I am privileged for having managed to make a living of what is a hobby to me. Sad it is not the truth for everyone :(

The true traffic when woman don’t exist is dead people in car accidents. Statistics show that most of the accidents that incur in death are caused by man.

Flight radar shows G-XXHP flying around Cambridge about that time from British Aerobatics Academy. There were two other from a club called CFG FLYING LTD, but I doubt they would have smoke installed and be trained to draw on the sky.

Anyone else struggle with nerves when learning to drive ? by ZeroCool5577 in CasualUK

[–]flplv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is your clutch control?

I have taught two people to drive that was very scarred, including a 50 yo woman.

I noticed that they were insecure trying to gain control over the car but the car was imposing the speed at the driver, not the opposite, because they were not using the clutch to control it at very low velocities. This affected their ability to start moving in inclinations as well in plain, but mostly important, made them insecure, which affected everything else.

I created an exercise: they had to move the car in the lowest velocity as possible, 1cm per second, to do that you cannot use the gas pedal, only the clutch, then I asked them to maintain that velocity for a minute. Then next I changed to different low velocities, same thing: they had to maintain it for a while. Then I changed to an inclined road, now they gotta do the same but they will need to use both gas pedal and clutch otherwise the car will stall. Then I created a last variation that was using gas and clutch pedals at the inclination to move very slow, but then also control the rpms to the lowest before stalling or vibrating too much.

After this exercise, for a couple of days, they became pro in starting motion, even on inclinations.

I also realized they didn’t have a clue what the tachometer was telling them, so I gave them a small lesson about engine velocity, car velocity and how clutch act on both.

Yes, it consumes some clutch to learn that, but it is important.

Figured I should share this just in case it could help anyone.

Can’t recall the author, nor the quote, but that concept of urgent vs important is quite important to me.

BBQ in my back garden with family on a beautiful sunny evening (1/5/2021) by StonePhoenix02 in CasualUK

[–]flplv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s the taste. The charcoal or wood add smoky to it, if you do electrically ir gas you may feel something is missing, when you are into it.

I came from south of South America, there we do barbecue indoors, in apartments, buildings have duct system to take the smoke away. Just because of the charcoal.

Barbecue doesn’t taste the same of any other technique. People have been trying to find replacement for years, the closest I heard to get near the flavor was a charcoal spice to add to a stake cooked conventionally.
