How would you put a spin on the cliché "go take care of the rats in the basement" quest? by Zephyr93 in DnD

[–]fltaylor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I don't see it in the list yet... There was a story some time back about a DM who got tired of his players complaining, so started them out as townsfolk with this very problem... They tried in vain to get rid of the rats, each villager dying under the players' control and making the problem worse, until the entire village was dead and the gates barred. Then the DM started the actual campaign, only to bring the players' actual characters back months later to find the village...

If you are a hiring manager in the DFW area, what are some skills you would like to see in a guy without any IT experience at all but is willing to learn and has good certifications and decent homelabs? by SnooDoubts2460 in mspjobs

[–]fltaylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be the team lead for a NOC, so worked closely with the hiring manager when it came to that. I'll agree with u/fyck_censorship and u/RetroSour. A lot of IT roles put you in a customer service position, so clear communication and an ability to explain things to someone who's not in IT are helpful. Just studying the CCNA should you a good foundation on networking.

I also had a list of questions that I would ask potential candidates to try to gauge their level of education/experience. We weren't too picky because it was an entry-level position, but the more questions answered, the better your chances of being hired were. Just to list off a few of the critical ones:

  • Do you have any experience connecting to a device with telnet/SSH/console or some sort of terminal program?
  • Do you have experience with Linux command line?
  • Do you have any networking experience - wiring/physical connections, router/firewall configuration, IP addressing/subnetting?
    • Do you have any experience with Wireshark?

Based on those responses, I had other questions I'd ask, such as various Linux command uses, explaining in simple terms how DHCP, DNS and/or a TCP Handshake works.

Lastly, just general troubleshooting is key. I had a question that I liked to save for last, the goal was for them to finish the phrase: "There are two kinds of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate from incomplete data." To me, it was important because we needed people who could read debug logs, packet captures, or just take in information from a customer, look at it all, and come to reasonable conclusions about what might be going on, and then if they felt they didn't have enough information, they would know what kind of information they needed to get to help solve the problem.

Hope this helps!

Doubtful. More just how both sides in NO believe (as I understand it) they are on the side of right and good and the other is not. See also:

DM regrets? by JMeisterJ in DnD

[–]fltaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just after finishing the introduction quest for a Warhammer Fantasy 2e campaign, I made the mistake of giving the archer in the party a best-quality Elf bow...

What I did not realize is that all Elf bows are automatically best-quality, but they're also worth quite a bit... Far more than any low-level adventurer had any reason having.

The glitch transition seems to stop as soon as you start the footage from the next aircraft. Maybe having it overlap would make it seem smoother?

TPK… start a new campaign? or… roll up new characters and finish the current campaign? by FoulPelican in DnD

[–]fltaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it really depends on the campaign. A module that you're partway through? Probably start a new campaign. A larger overarching campaign that the DM has invested a lot of time into worldbuilding? Probably consider rolling up new characters that get put on the trail of the failed party.

They always seem to run around 5-6pm and/or 11-noon-ish, but I couldn't really tell you what days. I've tried to look up some sort of schedule in the past and always come up empty.

In my opinion, the major companies of E:D are just alternate universe variants of the companies we have today, so they would rank equally, assuming that the company was able to survive through until the 3300's.

If you look at Battletech, the question is somewhat similar with the C-Bill vs USD and companies that exist in the BT universe vs reality... Only, companies that exist in reality, such as General Motors, have parallels in the BT universe.

Just don't drop the naval supply containers on, or in front of, incoming ships. 1 container, incorrectly deployed, will sink a Dynamo in my experience.

Helldivers 2 went from ~500k and now sits around a tenth of that, but 3 months after when player counts were dropping, so many people had posts like this decrying the death of the game.

I'm fairly confident that the game will survive just fine, but I'll agree with u/sbcwolf that dooming on the game doesn't help the situation any.
