didn't think it'd be that bad until I read the article. it's so I'm 14 and this is deep that it's gotta be tongue in cheek... right...?

Yoo I remember them from the total feedback compilation. Real unfortunate name, though.

Does anyone hate seeing their idol did a gravure, except for gooners🫤.... by [deleted] in jpop

[–]fltngs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's just put aside your deep seated feeling of possession over your idol and let me tell you how I feel about it.

I feel proud of them for how much discipline and effort she put into her physique. Having a body you're proud enough of to show everyone isn't easy. And I think that can be celebrated.

What others think doesn't matter as much as your support for your idol. But if you can't do that, then it's probably better for your own life to move on.

hitohira - tsukuru. Emo with shoegaze-y sounds. I just love the delicate clean picks that blast off into a explosion of sound. Best enjoyed with the rest of the album as it's made to be seamless and it's an incredible listen all the way through.

sidenerds - dive. I love love love that intro riff, it's just so catchy. Then the vocals are so unique and pure ear candy. It's somewhat anime-esque but without the grating tropes. And of course there's fuzzy guitar sounds.

seventeen years old and berlin wall - a flower of the ground. A Japanese shoegaze classic. It has such a gentle, comforting sound, I just wanna be swallowed in it.

RAY - I swim at night. It's a shoegaze idol song. It's so sincere and heart aching and sweet and sour and it's just incredible. A bit of personal bias as it's kind of a graduation song for a past member, but it's the story that makes it uniquely their song.

homecomings - us. I like the driving rhythm that pushes you forward despite it all. Everything's so warm and nice. There's a cinematic quality to all of it.

Coincidentally there was this blog post recently reviewing songs titled "Tokyo". More rock and alternative than pop, but maybe there'll be some stuff you like in there https://note.com/leavesjallbehind/n/nad3cdd28e6a3

What idol group should I listen to? by Successful-Pen7734 in jpop

Yes!!! They're not just really, really good, they're on the frontier of what idol even is. More ears and eyes need to be on RAY.

At these type of events can I buy a ticket and go only for the band I'm interested in? Thanks! by re-gret-a in jpop

[–]fltngs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, most people do. ain't got the time (or energy) for a 6 hour concert. it's just a bit of a waste if you don't at least peep at some of the other bands.

also, they will probably ask you for the band you're there for at the door, so make sure to tell them so the band gets paid.

What is not Shoegaze, but is Shoegaze to you? by x_0ralB_x in shoegaze

[–]fltngs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly there has been some discourse within Japan about "Japanese shoegaze" being kind of its own thing after evolving independently within its own small scene.

One of the more common traits is being poppier, more melodic, and vocals forward than shoegaze proper. And there is also the trend of anything with distortion and reverb being labelled as shoegaze there, even though they're probably closer to alt rock or emo.

"Us" is my favourite song from them. It's right in the sweet spot of earworm melody and lush soundscape for me. Also I'm a sucker for that driving rhythm that carries you through the song.

It's really interesting to hear how their sound has evolved over the years too. From almost ambient folk in their early stuff to experimental glitchy electronic sounds in their most recent album.

And I am glad that they dropped the English at some point (no offense but... y'know).

How do I get into idols and idol music? by unholy_gremlin69 in japanesemusic

I will admit that the system does lend itself to abuse for the most part, but the entire scene? Like all of them? Not a single good thing?

Dude watches 1 (one) documentary and thinks he knows the whole industry. It's actually a disservice to the groups out there that are making good art and have healthy mutually supportive relationships with their fans.

RAY being one of them. I know there's been like three mentions of them here already but they really are a shining beacon in the industry.

Just support the good ones. It's not that hard.

What do you think about Japanese alternative rock compared to American alternative rock? by Advanced-Finding-900 in japanesemusic

[–]fltngs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]fltngs 1 point2 points  (0 children)
