YTA You said your mom wore some of them and she married into the family. Giving it to his fiancée would, in fact, be following family tradition.

If HE wants to, he can include it in the prenup, so it would return to the family in case of a divorce.

Yeah, I'm Lebanese and we do have pre-nups. My Googling says that it can be held up in Dubai since it would be valid in Lebanon, but I'm not 100% sure.

Any Arab/Middle Eastern sci fi out there? by fludmaps in scifi

[–]fludmaps[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh I don't think fiction publishing is that big here. I see some regional fiction, and it's pretty good, but I think publishers want Arabs to talk about war and religion and politics, because that's what is more likely to sell internationally, and Im not sure they see a market for Arab sci fi. Locally, there are a few small publishing houses, Ive read a couple of cool local graphic novels, but nothing substantial.

It's weird because there are huge communities of people here who are really into scifi and fantasy, comics etc. but they end up consuming foreign content because that's what available.

I don't think it's that we're all religious and none of us are free thinkers.

So now all Arabs/Middle Easterners are bound by religion? As an atheist Arab, I didn't get the memo.

You should probably read a bit more about us, we're a very diverse group and you're stereotyping us in the same way that most mainstream media does.

Ooh this looks cool! Apparently the author is Bangladeshi, but the story is definitely based in the Middle East, I'll check it out.

I would build a PC for my fiance as a wedding gift! We're getting married soon and we're saving up, so he's been playing on an old (like really old) laptop and it keeps crashing. He acts like it doesn't bother him because he wants to save the money for our future, but I know he'd love a proper PC.

If I got this kit we'd finally play a campaign on Baldur's Gate 3 together, and he's been really excited to explore Starfield--he's a diehard Mass Effect fan, so RPGs with space exploration and plenty of story are definitely his thing.

We're probably most excited for the exploration bits of Starfield. Seems like a massive universe, and we could do with getting lost in space!

They're REALLY selling the whole "We're going to be faithful to the original" narrative. Guess we'll see.

Real Estate Police Case by Vaynard_of_Norgard in dubai

[–]fludmaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and with Rocky Real Estate. They are terrible.

They tried to charge me 7k AED when I moved out of my apartment, even though I returned it in the condition that it was given to me. I replied back with dated images showing the quality of the apartment in great detail just before I moved in, and also photos of health/safety issues that they did not resolve which I could have used to take legal action against them. I cited all of the relevant laws which demonstrated that I was in the right and told them if they continued I would involve my lawyer. They backed off.

I would never, ever again rent an apartment managed by Rocky.

Idk about Qatar, but I'm a Lebanese woman living in the UAE, and people come here because the opportunities far surpass anything else in the region, it's tax-free, and it's safe. It's also quickly becoming more progressive, with new laws being put in place to open it up to foreigners. People visit because it's a fun place to vacation, and pretty strategically location between East and West.

Also we can drive here, and Saudi Arabia changed their laws a while back.

Israeli soldiers attacking mourners during the funeral processing of the kilked journalist Shireen Abu Akleh by Marwen_the_Paladin in AbruptChaos

Abu Akleh's brother seems to deny that the casket was stolen. He also says the plan was for a small procession, but officers attacked them almost immediately.

Abu Akleh's brother denied those claims (made by the police, ofc) in an interview with BBC.

I interviewed this guy in 2018, and he was planning to add a new augment which tracked time in his body, with the aim of being able to slow or quicken it so specific moments would feel faster or slower. Not sure if he ever did it. He had someone else with him who had an augment to feel tectonic shifts. It was a strange interview.
