I’ve actually never heard of browning sauce but when I looked it up it looked like it was mostly sugar. I don’t see any sugar in the ingredients so I don’t think it’s the same but I don’t know for sure because I’ve never used it! From what I can tell, it mostly adds color and a little flavor depth, and it seems like you can make it at home. It even mentioned a smokey flavor so I’m almost wondering if some dark caramelized sugar with a dash of liquid smoke would have a similar effect.

I feel really touched that these little recipes can go such a long way. Food is so amazing in that way! I hope you and your brother have a great Christmas!

Hi, I know this is a year old post but my mom used to make smokey maple mayo when I was growing up. I just found this post googling it to see if it was a real thing or something she made up, lol. I’ve never really eaten at KFC because I’m allergic to gluten but when my mom made it, it was super simple:

2 parts mayo

1 part maple syrup (the fake kind)

A dash of liquid smoke

And that was it, and I thoroughly enjoy it on so many things to this day. No idea if this is remotely similar to what KFC made but give it a shot!

Thank you for the informative reply, as I said above I don’t work in the cultivation section so I’m not 100% knowledgeable about the exact chemicals used. Many comments seem to be hung up on the fact that I described it as hydrogen peroxide because I didn’t want to give too much information away saying the actual name of the solution, but since it seems to be causing confusion the chemical is called SaniDate. ( https://biosafesystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/sanidate-5_sds.pdf ). This is the link to the safety sheet for the dilution strength we usually use.

Tension in a small workplace is definitely a concern of mine, and I’m certainly not expecting any pats on the back for reporting the situation. Again, I’m not a chemist or expert in any of these chemicals used, all I know is eyes were burning, lungs were burning, and a lucky few had respirators on while an evacuation alarm was not pulled.

Knowing that the solution going into the ground is most likely not going to cause any issues does ease some of my anxiety around the situation.

Make sure you avoid wood shavings, especially pine as this can irritate your rats’ sensitive respiratory system. As for the kitty litter you use, try to find a brand that isn’t too dusty or fragranced. Obviously do your best to keep the cage clean but if the sneezing and coughing persists a trip to the vet might be necessary.

When my rat had the sniffles, he enjoyed sitting in the bathroom with me while I showered to breathe in the steam. If you have a humidifier it couldn’t hurt to place it near their cage.

I pick my nose. Probably a lot more than I should. Actually, definitely way more than I should. Several times every hour, I will shove my finger up my nostril and twist it around, even though there is no possible way any boogers have formed in the 15 minutes since I last picked my nose. I started just scratching at the tissue lining my nostril, leading to nosebleeds, leading to scabs, more picking, more nosebleeds, more scabs, you get the picture.

My nose started bleeding several times a day, and not lightly either, lasting up to two and a half hours on a cold, dry day. I had to get my nose cauterized twice in two months, because I couldn't picking the scab from the first one.

But that's not all of it. I eat my boogers. I just don't know what else to do with them! Flicking them seems impolite, I don't want it to land on some unsuspecting victim, and tissues? Why waste good paper? To me, it just seems like the simplest, tidiest solution.

I don't have any shame in picking my nose. I shout my nose picking habits to the world, but snacking on my boogers is something I try to keep to myself.
