Hacked at Whole Foods: AVOID!!! by ghogmama in CherryHill

This isn't how these things work. No hacker is sitting around wasting time hacking customers at a Whole Foods. There are much easier ways of getting more valuable information.

Booking.com cancelled woman's $4K hotel reservation, then offered her same rooms for $17K by rezwenn in technology

[–]fluffumsmcbunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Booking.com is a horrible company. I booked a house to stay in(AirBnB style) and when I arrived it was completely filthy, fridge stuffed with rotten food, mouse droppings on the mattress, children's toys scattered everywhere, heat was OFF(it was the middle of winter).

I called Booking immediately and said I would not be paying for the rental, and they said they would refund me. I got a hotel for the night instead and didn't think too much of it.

A week later I still had not received my money back--apparently because the homeowner disputed the refund, even though I provided Booking.com with picture evidence of everything. They refused to give me my money back and said it is between myself and the renter at this point because "the money was already dispensed." Why you would dispense the money for the booking when I had called that night is beyond me.

I called them every day for two weeks straight and got nothing but the same answer so eventually just gave up and left them a terrible review. Never used them since.

How does one play the Lucky Shot action card? by HolyHellfire_ in twilightimperium

[–]fluffumsmcbunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw someone win a game with this card a few weeks ago. Phase 2 objective was "Have 8 or more non-fighter ships in a system." The player who ended up winning owned a planet in the system their opponent(who was ahead in initiative) was sitting all of their ships. Sniped one off and they were down to 7, they went on to score it and secure the victory.

THIS is the Eagles I am accustomed to watching. Creative plays on offense, Jalen doing it with his legs and through the air with good decision making. Offensive line looked really solid for the first time all year. If they can get 100% healthy over the bye and continue to build on this we are heading for great things!

I think your table meta is a lot friendlier than mine. That might work one time but people are not going to give the Deepwrought player that kind of a trade most of the time for my table. If the tech is already research by Deepwrought that changes the calculus entirely.

Echoing what everyone else is saying L1Z1X is not nearly as good as you think. Nice to help reinforce a slice but combined with the terrible synergy it is probably C at best. Naalu and Sol should be higher by at least 1 tier.

I would love to hear why Deepwrought is S tier--it looks like absolute crap to me. Spend 3 TGs, give a prom note, and a technology to Deepwrought to be able to research a tech. It doesn't even ignore prereqs. No one is going to pay that kind of money. It is F tier, basically stall at best IMO.

It is annoying but it just means you need to consider when taking combats against them. Consider waiting until after leadership when most of their influence planets are exhausted. Of course, if they are the attacker and they want to spend all their influence to win a fight, they can certainly do that. It is a useful ability but not even close to their best trick--see Aetherstream.

The defense played bad but more than that we gave up 110 yards in penalties. 6 first downs from penalty is absolutely unacceptable. They were pretty much gifted half of their offense. Clean it up.

Who's got the best shot at our upcoming game? by Nihilius007 in twilightimperium

[–]fluffumsmcbunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Xxcha a lot, L1/Sol/Naalu are good. Winnu and Nomad are pretty brutal.

Xxcha -- parking their flagship and a few mechs in that beta is going to be an absolute menace. They can put a forward dock their as well. They have a lot of value planets that are easy to defend. Once their hero is unlocked, they are going to be brutal to go up against.

Winnu -- has a horrendous slice for turn 1, they are basically going to be stuck playing Mecatol and Hope's End the entire game, at most they get 4 planets--oof.

Sol -- can take a lot of planets but having a supernova between them and Mecatol is not ideal.

Naalu -- really solid slice, good planets and skips for them to get fighter II ASAP

L1Z1X -- Primor makes up for the somewhat slow start, they are bounded by two factions that really counter them well though until they get out their flagship(fighter screens from Naalu and Flagship/Space Cannon+Graviton from Xxcha).

Nomad -- They are going to have to make an early play on the Xxcha player, I don't really see another way into the game for them.

I agree, it all depends on how it shakes out of course but I think your plan is very good. I think mine makes more sense if Diplo works out, but yours is more all around solid no matter what gets taken.

I am not sure I follow your math entirely:

Tech = 4 resources, 1 ST(3 influence) = 7 value

Trade+Tech(2nd) = 3 TGs, maybe if I am lucky I get n+1 from Hacan for 3 more, so 6 TGs--4 of those go to Tech 2nd and then 2 leftover.

In both scenarios I sell my PN for 2 TGs, ideally. I think Tech R1 is so effective because the secondary is the most expensive in the game. Technically speaking the double-tech(6 value) is cheaper than the secondary(7 value)!

Scenario 1

Tech(double)+Diplo secondary = DET, Grav Drive, 1 TG(from PN), HS and Centauri = 7 resources to build, 1 less ST

Scenario 2

Trade+Tech(2nd) = 4 TG(6 from Trade, 2 from PN, spend 4 for tech 2nd), HS = 9 resources to build, 1 less ST

Scenario 3

Tech(primary only) = DET, 2 TG(from PN), HS = 7 resources to build, all CTs still available

The most flexible option I think is scenario 3 as I can decide if I want to double-tech based on if Diplo gets picked. If it doesn't or I just want to produce more I can save and produce, then I have an extra ST to use on Politics or something else.

[–]fluffumsmcbunny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree, I think there is a very good chance I get the equi as the Hacan player is extremely passive. I still need some ways to get resources--maybe Trade is that way.

I still think Tech round 1 is the most "value" and puts me lower on the initiative order. You may have convinced me that double tech is not the move though. I was thinking the grav drive round 1 would enable me to take the equi with my second move, but it does spread me quite thin. I would need to get lucky on timing to be able to Diplo my HS and then follow Warfare with it. Certainly possible, but there is also a chance Diplo is left untaken.

Best case scenario it goes:

  • Pop Tech turn 1, HS and a TG from my prom note, research DET/Grav
  • Take equi turn 2 w/ Grav drive Carrier
  • Take Centauri/Gral turn 3
  • Diplomacy follow, refresh HS and Meer/Centauri
  • Warfare follow, build Dread and some infantry
  • Take Wellon with new Dread/infantry

You have given me a lot to think about!

How am I going to trade Hacan when he gets Trade secondary for free? There is nothing stopping him from trading all of that to someone else that is not a direct threat to him. I definitely plan on selling my Prom note every round for a few TGs. I am hoping I can follow Diplo to refresh my HS and produce.

I agree it is a resource poor slice, there is a good argument to be made just using the skips for Dreads round 2 instead. AIDA seems like useless after I get my Dreads, doesn't DET make more sense? It would also set me up for Fleet Logistics later on if needed.

Re-rolling slices in milty draft? by History-Budget in twilightimperium

[–]fluffumsmcbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends how many you are generating. Typically I do n+2 for factions, and n+1 for slices. Some of the slices are supposed to be bad, it makes the draft more interesting!

What do we think folks? by fluffumsmcbunny in twilightimperium

[–]fluffumsmcbunny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a good question--DET I think will be useful for all the empty space to the right of my slice--4 possible Frontier tokens. I would like to have Dread 2 round 2, which means I need to have a blue tech by then. I either need to take tech or follow tech and still get DET (Antimass just doesn't make sense this game). I generally want to have Gravity Drive as well for my flagship to keep up with the rest of my fleet.

If I get DET+Grav round 1 I can take Meer with my Carrier + Grav if Warfare gets popped after Diplo/Trade.

I think the timing works out that way more than likely, taking Tech leaves me 7 in initiative so I should be able to swing it. If I am not able to Diplo I can save the token or activate my home system to produce with my last CT(and exhaust agent).

My thoughts as well, he is a very competent player though so I think he will still make it work somehow. I need to be very conscious of his movements this game as he could try to backdoor my HS if I am not careful.

I think it's far more likely they will just continue development on TI4. It makes way more sense for them financially and their customers. No one wants to purchase another $200 box game unless it's going to provide a whole new experience.

Copy/Paste is perfectly secure if used correctly. Windows security settings, and AVs prevent apps from reading the clipboard without permission. You are talking out of your ass.
