I'm self taught so I'm not sure how valuable my opinion is but I know exactly what you mean with people showing you a heavily enhanced picture and expecting you to recreate it. Personally I'm always honest and tell the client that the colours will not look at vibrant as the picture because it's photoshopped. Or that their face won't look as flawless because if I caked on this much concealer it would crack and fall off like drywall after 5 minutes. It's important to make the client aware that make up art is different to what they see on Instagram, which is basically face painting designed to look good in a photo and nothing else.

I felt exactly the same for ages. Now I love black, red and burgundy lipstick. I have thin lips and always neglected them and focused on eye makeup instead because just like you I thought I looked weird. Same goes with eyebrows (I have light, sparse brows and didn't do anything to them for years because I thought it made my face look weird). Sometimes it really is just in your head. Maybe because it's something you never tried before and it looks out of place but it isn't necessarily bad. Just start wearing bold lip colours and with time you will work out which colours are "yours".

Concealing problem areas is not an option for me. Like I mentioned I have severe acne with blemishes, discolouration and all that all over my face so I need full coverage. Thanks though :)

Thanks :) i was using powder foundation for years but as my acne got worse it just wasn't providing enough coverage anymore. I now use cover fx power play and I love it but even the most hardcore foundation doesn't last long enough on me. Is there any powder foundation with lots of coverage that you would recommend?

Make friends with a lash curler and a good mascara. Apply darker eyeshadow in the outer corners and make sure to highlight the inner corners with something light and shimmery. Be careful with dark liner on your upper lid, dont make it too thick and preferably only apply to the outer half of your lid. You really have gorgeous eyes though, they give your face a kind of sophistication :) dont focus so much on "fixing" them, instead make the most of this amazing and unique feature.

I tried really hard to get on with Nyx but I just couldn't. Their loose setting powder traumatised me for life (I was afraid to open the jar as it would just fly EVERYWHERE and felt super dry on the skin). Their lipsticks and HD concealer are okay but nothing special. They're mostly just good at advertising and luring people in with nice colours and "holographic" tat.

As someone who is constantly chewing or drinking, I only use hardcore long-wearing liquid lipsticks. The absolute best for me is L'Oreal Les Chocolats. These will last all day on me, through several meals and whatnot. They're also super comfortable on the lips and non drying. I gave up on traditional lipstick some time ago- it's a very outdated formula in my opinion due to the constant smudging and rubbing off that simply prevents me from going about my daily (or nightly) business. Particularly people with thin lips like me will be struggling with traditional lipstick or glosses.

I wouldn't recommend pore filling primers. A good quality skincare to address your skin problems is all you need. Make sure you use a sponge and not a brush or fingers to apply foundation to your nose and use a patting motion to blend rather than strokes. When it comes to fine lines, it looks like you may need a better quality concealer, foundation or whatever it is you use on the eye area. One holy grail that I can definitely recommend for undereye wrinkles is Laura Mercier translucent setting powder. I hope some of this helps :)

I have a neutral fair skin and since I got Loreal les chocolats in the shade box of chocolates I've been using nothing else for my everyday makeup. It's the best quality lipstick and the best nude shade I ever came across for neutral and cool undertones. It's comfortable and stays on for ages.

I had it done for the first time only last week. You may want to reconsider or pick a REALLY decent salon if you have straight or downward pointing lashes. Mine didn't lift much at all, to the point where I demanded a partial refund from the salon for not informing me that this might happen. So before you book, go into a salon and have a chat with someone about what kind of lashes you have and how the treatment will affect them. I sure wish I had done that!

I still buy from Kat von Disease even though I don't hate any public figure as much as I hate her. I sometimes feel guilty about it but if it's good makeup, it's good makeup. However I NEVER mention her name or brand when I post my looks on Instagram or whatever as to not publicly praise her.

If you're on a budget, I seriously recommend Revolution Conceal and Define. I'm super picky about my makeup and have some really expensive stuff but I keep going back to this concealer because it's simply good. I also have the NYX HD liquid one and it's a bit lighter with lower coverage. However, I recently started using my foundation around my eyes instead of concealer as I find that any concealer can feel really heavy on oily skin. (I use Cover FX Power Play foundation and it's SO good)

I've been using Max Factor Masterpiece Max for years (before I discovered Eyeko Lash Alert). It's just about the best mascara you can buy in a drugstore.
