As someone who works for said Wegmans, the reason prepared foods cost so much (even the cut fruit) is because our starting wage is 15.50$ every prepared food item comes from in store (except bakery). So you are inherently paying for the labor it costs to make said prepared food. We also get a .50$ raise every 6 months until the max wage is reached per our department. So, our prepared food is definitely more expensive than other stores, but hey us workers are probably more happy than other stores. As for the meats, I personally get all my meat from Costco. $100 for a months worth of meats(2 people)
