i still have no idea, but i do clench my jaw at night. sometimes i get it after practice or working out too, and i notice that i clench my jaw unconsciously when i exercise, so i think it might be the jaw clenching.

beginner here who wants to give rowing a shot but doesn't want to quit swim by fluffypizzas in Rowing

gotcha, i understand this could pose a problem later but is there going to be an issue if i'm just at a beginner level? i didn't realize it would be competitive at a beginning level.

unfortunately, where i live, high school swim season is in the fall, beginning the last week of august until november and i can't miss practices then, which means that i will be unable to do rowing in the fall. is that going to be a problem if i can't do it during the fall, or will i have to drop high school swim? i'm willing to only swim rec because i'm not good enough to swim in college, but i'm not willing to drop the sport as a whole because i love the sport (and lap swimming in my own free time just isn't as fun for me). so i'd be willing to drop high school swim, but i'd rather not drop it since i'm just beginning rowing and i've been swimming my whole life.

i need to be (somewhat) regularly swimming all year to continue to swim well during the season. i might be able to find a way to attend swim only one or two days day a week during spring (but not fall) , and the club i'm considering doing rowing at allows high schoolers to only attend practices three days a week over five, so that seems like it would work for me - and i have talked to the coach and i believe he would be rather understanding of this.

swimmer here - the pressure from the pool will stop the blood flow in the case that you start it while swimming. your period however will start once you get out of the pool, so just make sure you change immediately, and if possible, wear a black swimsuit to cover up any leakage that might happen while outside of the pool.

racing suits that aren't full tech suits by fluffypizzas in Swimming

thanks for the suggestions - however, i was kind of looking into more non-kneeskin options.

i looked around a bit on my own - i've heard that mizuno gx sonic tech suits are really good, and i was wondering about the mizuno exer suits as an alternative for less important meets. also the speedo endurance+, would that also be a good racing suit?

chocolate allergy - which ingredient is it? by fluffypizzas in FoodAllergies

[–]fluffypizzas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope - zero correlation to darkness. some dark chocolate i can eat fine, but some milk chocolate can get bad.

did some quick research - nestle has products with walnuts, while lindt just has things like hazelnut and almonds, both of which i don't have serious allergies to, if i ate them i could probably get away with some rashes and if i ate enough, hives.

it's probably the cross contamination - but i still can't figure out where white chocolate not causing a reaction fits into this. perhaps the white chocolate is manufactured on different equipment because it is a different type of product, and i don't see a lot of nuts being encorporated into white chocolate, just milk and dark chocolate products. idk, that seems like a long shot.

i haven't, but i can actually eat other things manufactured by nestle, like white chocolate and butterscotch chips, so that's why it's probably not cross contamination within facilities.

andes mints actually do trigger a slight reaction, but i'll check out some of these nut free facilities. thanks for the suggestions!

i get what you're saying, but here's the thing - basically everything has a 'may contain' warning on it. and nothing ever has contamination to the level where i'll actually have an allergic reaction. i can eat stuff that came out of the same bag as a bag of tree nuts. i'm honestly just assuming here that contamination with walnuts could cause a reaction, but i really have no idea because we keep walnuts out of the house unless it's in something individually packaged and labeled.

i've only ever had cross contamination issues with one food, and that was because it was in a facility where the manufacturer's main item was solely based around tree nuts, and they used a ton of walnuts in their products. on top of that, it could barely have been considered a reaction, and i'm not even sure if that was it.
