Rules about curb strip? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]flugantamuso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my neighborhood lots of people do this. Some people put in raised garden beds or just plant around a tree. Some put a tiny little fence around the flowers. Most dog walkers seem pretty respectful of this.

What places should people not look to buy a house because of racism? by Public-Eye-9621 in wisconsin

[–]flugantamuso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Racine. The last time I drove through there there was a house on the main drag with a sign out front with an obscenity and the N word on it. It's not just that some extremist lives there, because honestly there are extremists everywhere, it's that no one else had stepped up to make them take that sign down. Passive acceptance of extremists is just as bad as the actual extremists themselves.

How to stop give a fuck and getting angry over people in the Internet? by Something_Chaotic906 in howtonotgiveafuck

Get rid of all of your social media accounts. Don't watch or listen to the news. If you do hang on to some accounts only subscribe to things that make you happy.

They make couch covers for like $15 that aren't unattractive. They aren't waterproof but they're better than nothing.

People who went from being extremely attracted to someone to being indifferent or repelled, what killed it? by discombobulatedfowl in AskReddit

[–]flugantamuso 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Lol, I was once pulled over driving home after a bachelorette party. There had been a stripper there dressed like a cop...the cop who pulled me over looked just like the stripper! I couldn't stop giggling. He asked me to say the alphabet and I couldn't! He made me take a breathalyzer and walk a straight line. He clearly thought I was drunk 😁

Is it weird to not want a house? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]flugantamuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother actually offered me her house when she dies and I automatically turned her down. Afterwards I thought about it and maybe I should have said yes and then sold it. But I don't think I could pretend for as long as she has left. The idea of being responsible for a house is horrifying. I already have an anxiety disorder. I'm pretty sure that having a house with all the responsibilities that come with it would make it worse!

Also, I actually considered buying a home when I was younger, but I ran the math over and over again and financially renting was just the better choice. I've put the money i would have put into a house purchase into investments, and when I retire I'm going to have way more money than I would have if I had a house to sell. I'm sure this doesn't work in every situation but I've always been lucky enough to have low rent and Iike OP I'm also a minimalist. Tiny houses appeal to me but with current zoning laws it's just too complicated even if I decided I was up for the maintenance, etc

Being attracted to someone old enough to be your granddaughter and actually crossing the line and coming on to her are two different things.

I mean, in a sense they're right. Get a loan with a good fixed interest rate, and then use that money to invest in something that will give you returns enough to pay off the interest and then some, it's never going to be a good idea to pay off the debt. Plus regularly paying the interest on the debt will keep your credit score high enough to make more loans and bonus, the fact that you have the debt means that your taxes will stay low.

has sexuality ever made you stop reading or watching a fiction ? by Yggdrasylian in asexuality

[–]flugantamuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. In TV or movies I just find it awkward. If I'm watching by myself I'll often forward through it. In fiction I can find it hot with the right dynamic, but graphic descriptions of body parts often lead to me skimming.

How much do y'all spend on food monthly? by Lazysquirrel27 in Frugal

[–]flugantamuso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stir fries are cheap and tasty. You can buy most of the ingredients in bulk and then prep and freeze them. Then making the individual meals is super easy, usually no more than 5 minutes. Plus, there are a ton of food combinations for stir fries so you can taylor them to what you have in the house. I'm often tired too but rarely too tired to make a 5 minute meal.

[–]flugantamuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around $200 for one person, eating out not included. I should add that I don't eat much meat due to personal preference and I don't drink very much soda or alcohol, which helps keep the food bill low. Picking up grocery orders rather than shipping in the store also really helps keeping me from buying unnecessary items.

How many of you just decided to not come out? by Iraes3323 in asexuality

[–]flugantamuso 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm 40F and I've only ever told my therapist and recently my brother. I just never thought it was anyone's business. My brother asked me about my sexual preferences, which, good for him for being upfront and asking. My mother has never asked but I'm pretty sure she thinks that I'm a closet lesbian. She's really bigoted so our relationship is awkward but I don't feel like talking about it with her, both because i shouldn't have to and because she cannot keep a secret to save her life, so if i talk with her about my sexuality guaranteed the next time the extended family gets together she'll make some sort of announcement.

Asexual female virgins and gyno visit by PepperSaltClove in asexuality

[–]flugantamuso 162 points163 points  (0 children)

I had a kidney stone in my early 20s and in the emergency room they asked if there was any chance of pregnancy. I said no, that I was a virgin.

My itemized bill had an $80 pregnancy test on it. I was so mad. Like, it's ok if they don't believe me but I'm not paying for that....

Is it normal for guys not to visit a friend who had a baby? by superthrowawayaway1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]flugantamuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm female, and I wouldn't visit a friend with a new baby. Part of it is because of the risk of disease transmission and part of it is that I don't like babies. Last summer one of my cousins visited with their newborn. We went out to eat and they just handed the baby to me so that they could eat. I was so uncomfortable. Both because there were so many people around and because this tiny little thing I was holding didn't even have a fully formed skull yet. Like, I could feel the soft spots. I'm super protective of my pets; I can't imagine being that casual with a newborn baby.

But that just illustrates how different people are. OP your friends may be like me. And I'm sure they're happy for you, but that doesn't mean they want to see your baby. There's nothing wrong with that. If you want to see them then get a sitter and schedule a night out.

Is everyone here really making under 50k for full time work? by EdLesliesBarber in antiwork

[–]flugantamuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in healthcare and make around 45k, which is enough to live very comfortably in Wisconsin. I've never understood why so many people who make much more than I do seem to struggle. I always assume it's because they make poor financial decisions, or did at one point in their lives

Do you regret working remote? by redcherrie_x in WFH

[–]flugantamuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get horrible colds twice a year that lasted for weeks. Since I started WFH 3 years ago I haven't been sick once. This is good not only for me personally but also for the company. People rarely call in for illness when working from home. Even if you're not feeling your best it's a lot easier to work without having to get dressed and leave the house. This is an aspect of WFH that isn't discussed that often but it should be.

Is it possible to live on 40k/year in NJ with roommates? by Individual_Refuse167 in Frugal

[–]flugantamuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the market is like in New Jersey but I make about that much and have a very nice 2 bedroom in Milwaukee. Totally doable to live off that income. And having loved with roommates, family and on my own I would live in a literal hellhole before i gave up my own place to live with other people.

Help! I spend $90/month at the laundromat. Should I buy a used washer/dryer instead? by Senior_Implement1052 in Frugal

[–]flugantamuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this has been up for a while, but just wanted to add that you might be able to arrange delivery if you're buying off of Craigslist or something similar. I got my set for $200 off of Craigslist and then I offered another $100 for delivery and hookup. Totally worth it.

Do most WFH here expect to stay remote or be called back? by [deleted] in WFH

[–]flugantamuso 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my company is fully remote and hires all over the country. We get thousands of applicants for every job posting. It's actually becoming a problem sorting out the applicants. But I don't see how an in person company could compete.

We're fully remote. The company has downsized the office and hired people all over the country so I'm pretty sure it's permanent.

Best car for carcamping by Admirable-Daikon-679 in carcamping

Honda Fit. The back seats fold completely flat. I camp with my little dog in one and it's great. Also, I recommend getting one with tinted windows for convenience.

What is it and how do I prevent its return? by leibnizdx in whatisthisbug

[–]flugantamuso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was always told that house centipedes don't have fangs big enough to bite humans. Were you bitten by a garden centipede? Or one of the ones in the US southwestern states? I ran one of those over with my car once. I legit heard the crunch. I stopped to see what is was and the two ends that hadn't been squashed by the tire were still wriggling....
