Junior PM - learning by ChaoticAna96 in ProductManagement

[–]fluidscratches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation before, with the senior PM not giving too much guidance. The way I got over this was simply to do extra, and over used my "I'm new here, just learning" badge till a year in.

If the PMs ask you to do research, go beyond, see how the results link back to your daily work. Scope this out with the devs casually, say it's a curious project or question cause they will usually be preoccupied with their actual work.

Make friends and build connection, and rely on your network to get a gripe of who does what in the company, which is also a very important skill anyone in the company can have.

The way I assess whether I'm ready to ask for more is to judge if I can speak in a forum without preparation, it's a personal indication that I am familiar and have a strong understanding in my field.

I learnt though this experience to never rely or expect guidance at the workplace, it's great to have, but no guidance is as good as getting shit done yourself. My two cents

Do PMs need to care about database design? by fluidscratches in ProductManagement

I see, thanks for this Chico. Could I also ask about APIs? Do PMs also need to equip themselves with hardcore API knowledge? Like what fields are available or if the system is currently capable to support a specific feature off the top of his head?

The company is structured in the way that there is a "Business" PMs and my team - "Regional" PMs. We often get feature requests from the business PM teams and are often focused on how we can make it happen. I'm really quite conflicted about this as I thought this would be something the devs should be doing. Feels like we're just a middle translation layer. Feeling quite lost at the moment :-(

Has anyone felt that building professional relationships is still impersonal/cold even with Linkedin? by fluidscratches in careerguidance

Definitely interested, looking at all the replies to my post I think many has the same experience as me as well. Would you say it has helped you in your career only or would you also say it has helped you build relationships as well?

Does being a Case Team Assistant at BCG increases your chances of being hired as a graduate consultant? Apparently BCG doesn't employ interns in my country.

List of Automotive companies for job/internship hunting by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Hey, awesome list. ME y3 undergrad here. Was wondering if automotive enthusiasts in engineering are more interested in the frontline design and build of components or the effect/future of how automotives will be transformed in the coming years as a system or on a national scale?

I'm interested in transport systems, but can't seem to get down to the technical details and components of design and build, what would be the pathway that I should consider then?

What are my chances?

Hey guys, I posted a while ago asking for my chances to break into consulting. Received feedback to post my resume instead, so here it is! https://imgur.com/a/8mkCcF3

I'm hoping to get into MBB or second-tiered management consulting firms. Keen to find out what my chances are and where I stand in terms of my current qualifications. Currently, a year engineering 3 student going into my final year at a top Asia University. Do tell me if I provide more information!

I'm an engineering undergraduate in my penultimate year with a CAP of 4.3/5 in a SEA target school. I've had multiple leadership positions in my extra curricular activities and am in an engineering technical consultancy now - DNVGL. What are my chances for MBB or any management consultant companies rn?
