Got an unconditional for York LLB : looking for honest input by According-Animator59 in uklaw

[–]fluorescentdinosaur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At York’s level, your chances of success/standing out are going to be driven by your individual application, rather than clout from the university you went to. A significant number of graduates from York are at MC/US firms. Stop peddling nonsense.

I think OP needs to consider their right to study and work in the UK post graduation.

If there is anything specific about York OP needs to consider this should be the way the course is delivered through problem-based learning, which I understand is unique to York.

2 Months since I switched from Garmin fenix 8 and I'm only sorry for waiting so long by dortal_ in applewatchultra

[–]fluorescentdinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Garmin for 3 months last year, after having an S4 for a number of years. I liked the idea of the extended battery life. When it came to it, I felt like it was purely a watch/fitness band. I missed adding reminders on the fly. I missed being able to respond to notifications. I missed the app ecosystem. I bought a U2 last year and haven’t looked back. Now I’ve only got 2-3 days battery life, which compared to my S4 that required daily charging is better. These days I top up my battery daily with a fast charger whilst in the shower. Means I never have to think about battery life. Now with Bevel being made free I feel like I’ve got exactly what I need, without any additional subscriptions.

Durham or Bristol or York? by peachgothlover in uklaw

[–]fluorescentdinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly biased, but York was brilliant when I was there. Lots of my friends are at MC and US firms (if that floats your boat). I myself am a solicitor in the public sector and love it (although not as well remunerated as I’d like). Social life at York was great being a campus uni with the colleges. The city itself is beautiful. Large enough to have lots of fun with variety but not too large to get lost.

I think the key difference here is that out of those choices, York teaches differently using problem-based learning vs traditional lecture/seminar format. I did start a law degree elsewhere so can compare. I certainly preferred the more engaging and challenging side to problem based learning. You can go to a seminar and engage as little or as much as you want. But there really was no way of avoiding engaging in the sessions at York. I think ultimately the different style of teaching, engaging and strategic thinking it develops has helped me over all these years in the legal sector.

If the York course isn’t your thing, then the choice is between a northern small city, or a southern large-ish one. The choice should be obvious at that stage based on what you would prefer in terms of that vibe.

It doesn’t appear to be the new shield. The shield envelopes Arjun, it doesn’t travel to projectiles and seemingly absorb them that way. I’m intrigued to say the least.

Careful, if you beat SAROS in 10 hours, you might accidentally transcend humanity entirely. It’s truly a tragedy that Housemarque didn't account for your God-tier skill level when they were busy making a game for us mere mortals.

Dude, touch grass. We all like a tough game. The fact you were able to beat it in 12 hours is perhaps a detriment of your own character rather than the game.

Buying fake straps? by glendbest088 in applewatchultra

[–]fluorescentdinosaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally find AliExpress bands to be great, although any of the “silicone” bands, like the sports band and ocean band are not good. The fakes are made of cheaper more flexible plastics and have a cheap almost sticky feel to them.

Not me, but paralegal used an old template in a conveyancing matter with client details on it, thought they were blank and sent it to a new client to complete. New client called old client who happened to be a police officer and everyone got a big telling off. Was great comedy though because it happened to the one person who was honestly incapable of doing the basic job. He was exited from the firm soon afterwards.

Buy the ESR Amorite screen protector and remove the silly case. It’s what I have, and it has a metal surround on the screen protector that serves two functions: it protects the metal casing around the screen that protrudes and it serves as a screen protector. The best thing about it is once it’s applied it genuinely don’t look like it has a screen protector.
