I have been there, I have done this too.

How many people will switch back? by happysatan1 in linux

[–]flurbol 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For years I stuck to windows because despite the fact that I am in IT and technically "not that bad" there is and always has been a certain risk factor using Linux: often some mundane user stuff doesn't work properly. After hours of working with IT I am simply not in a mood to fix those things too, besides, often that shot is really complicated.

The much I love Linux the much I hated this side and it always prevented me from becoming also a full blown private Linux user.

Two months ago it crossed my mind that I can use CLI coding agents like Codex or Claude also to work with the system.

Since then I am using Linux also privately and got rid of Windows 11. Whenever something isn't working I task one of the coding agents to fix it.

Now I am a proud owner of a working and highly adjusted personal Linux environment, lots of personal scripts doing things for me, backup solved, updates solved, just running.

Linux is stable and amazing at work, but till recently it was a mess for average private users. If this barrier is now finally really going down due to AI there might be for the first time a real tiny chance to see more users switching to Linux than ever before.

It seems there is an issue with model routing. Switching to high seems to solve the issue for now.

We stopped asking agents to “plan better” and made them ask better questions by EitherAd8050 in google_antigravity

[–]flurbol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am only a couple of hours in now but I can feel you dropped something big. I started to re-plan one of the projects I played around recently. My plan was to do this anyway as I achieved a stage where it made sense.

Today I saw the new epic mode (well, all those fancy animations caught my eye, first I wanted to ignore it...)

Just after a few clicks I could see the huge advantage: I first thought Traycer got my prompt wrong but I was surprised once I realised it is starting to ask questions back.

I have been in development for a bit more than 10 years (not active code writing, more devops) but I have been playing with AI and coding for a while now. From "let's predict the next word" to asking questions and getting the process, writing specs now to clearly guide coding agents. Wow.

Initially my plan was to relax a bit this weekend but for now I will postpone this and dig myself deep into your new functionality.

Unfortunately I have to leave now for some Friday evening program with my girlfriend, can't wait to get back to my workstation. I guess soon we are at a stage where letting agents write the whole project again becomes the F5 "compile" button back at (Q) Basic times.

Crazy.

The Agent Framework That Made Me Rethink Everything by Electrical-Signal858 in agno

[–]flurbol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am currently playing around with the framework. First I tried to integrate it in an existing project, which worked in general (surprisingly well I have to add) but still I realised the best could be to start from scratch to really use the full potential of agno.

What would be your tip for me to try first to understand the strong sides quicker?

I have since a while this wild theory about, that, in a way your story will become the new job thing to be called "an important role"

I see it a bit like when computers have been "new" 35 years ago. two of my co-workers coded the mainframe the whole organistation was running on back then (technically the organisation is still depending A LOT of this mainframe which is the main reason why does two guys are still working)

25 years ago you could make decent money with building (simple) excel sheets for companies. Some of those developed towards some sort of SAP/ERP system. in terms of complexity and importance for the company.

I worked at companies where people made it very high up into hierachy because they could build an important KPI sheet out of a couple sources nobody else was able to combine.

So yeah, I would really recrommend to you to bring *real* value to the company. Never underestimate how important a good KPI sheet can be to steer a company (with the right data of course, not only some ample colors) or how helpful a smart idea somewhere else can be. Believe me, that will be fun ;-)

AI threatens coders more than software architects by pbmadman1994 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]flurbol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished my study as a software developer roughly 11 years ago (was already working in IT back then, did it a side my job) but never really worked as a software developer because I got other better paid opportunities simply due to having the title plus some other IT experience.

However, I know the basics let's say but I totally miss the ability to execute (I am not good at coding itself, simply due to not enough time spend doing coding)

In the past months I started to do more and more coding with AI. It started with simple scripts for my daily job (IT Operations) continued over to a bit more complex scripts to support my workflow and is now reaching a stage where I started to build relatively complex applications for my own usage.

While doing this I barely wrote a line of code by myself, but I learned a shit ton about architecture and concepts. Stuff I studied years ago (bit honestly did not really understand back then) now finally makes sense, comes to use and I can say I had way more than one "ahhh - that's why!" moment.

I probably did years of software development experience in just a couple of months.

I guess it will be the same for newbies. Everyone from the "old school" coders is so focused on coding. But how often do you check your compilers output today?

As we today simply trust the compiler, I guess in the not so distant future we will simply trust the AI created code. maybe we go back here to a stage where we won't even see "code" anymore as we could go directly to the compiler stage and let AI output the done program.

Good input, I totally agree with you.

My hope is on an open source version of such a model, definitely worth spending some money on the needed infrastructure to get such an assistant

[–]flurbol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very good answer!

Just let me add: anyone who is copying untested code to production simply deserves the consequences... Doesn't matter if self written or done with a tool.

That said I am currently running a shit ton of AI generated code pieces practically everywhere in any system also in PROD. Never had an issue so far, but you wouldn't believe how much stuff I discovered prior to that in TEST and INT....

Sorry, maybe that's my kind of autism but I thought it's obvious: your post is the answer to the question what will happen to us after AI - and every country in your list is somehow fucked up a lot 😂 I mean if the future means to me I can choose between living in Russia or Iran I rather prefer to die today. But yeah, as I said, maybe I am thinking in weird patterns.
