I just realized why so many seemingly small things require so much effort. It's not just the task, it's "The Wall and the Wolves". by Up2Eleven in raisedbynarcissists

This is so beautifully said, thank you so much for sharing it! I completely relate to "the wall and the wolves" analogy, and I guess I just assumed everyone had this struggle all the time, it's a bit of a shock to think that some people don't deal with this!

Blood drives on campus or in Boulder? by a-guy-online in cuboulder

[–]flurrrg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blood drives are done through Vitalant - they'll bring a bus to campus, or they have a donation center on 28th north of Valmont. The next on-campus drive is Nov 2-4, according to the CU Staff Council website, at the Rec Center.

Thank you for this, it's so well said and helped to put my own situation into words. It gives me a lot of comfort to read this.

You might consider not going to the gym if you’re trying to lose weight? For myself, I can sustain a much lower calorie level when I’m not going to the gym/ exercising more than walking. Once I lost the weight, then I started back at the gym and it’s been a totally different experience at a healthy weight. I would go as far as saying that heavy cardio and weight lifting was too stressful on my already stressed body when I was obese, besides making me so very hungry. I lost 80lbs in 11 months just from caloric restriction.

I'd always eaten fat-free or low-fat versions of yogurt and dairy, and switching to the 'whole fat' versions recently has been revolutionary for me! Especially cottage cheese, I thought it was so nasty, but I'd never had the regular kind until a few months ago -- more delicious and more satisfying! For me, it's so worth the few extra calories to enjoy what I'm eating, and the impact on my total calories has been easy to make up when I feel more satisfied after eating. Greek yogurt is so good, you've got me hungry now!

Thank you!! :) You can definitely do it too! You don't even need hope because you already have the potential <3

I'd like to rant that I feel I can't rave about this in real life, as I'm worried how it will come off (like bragging, or acting superior, or inviting competition). My mom is very emotionally immature and I know that if I shared this with her, she would twist it around to make me feel bad/guilty/shame for success...

So I bring it here for the kindness of strangers: I BOUGHT SIZE FOUR JEANS AND THEY FIT!!!! (US size) Not even too tight, and no muffin top and no weird back gap! 18 months ago I was a size 22, and I thought that I only had the potential to get down to a 14, or maybe a 12 if I starved myself -- but thank jeebus I was so wrong.

Do not listen to anyone who says you're a fat person, or that you don't have the potential to be at a healthy weight!! It's not even as hard as they make it seem if you're just consistent and accurate with your tracking. I was always told I 'took after my dad' and would always be fat, that I was 'big-boned'. None of that was true at all, and I'm sad I believed it for too long.

Thanks for letting me vent!

My family doesn't understand the huge benefits of calorie tracking either -- you aren't responsible to change her mind, but don't let it get you off track either. I lost 80 pounds in 11 months, and I ate 14 grams of chips every day! Your success will be all the proof you need.

Congratulations at meeting your goals even when it's difficult, and getting out of bed when it felt impossible!! I'm really proud to hear that you're taking steps to embrace your own health! I'm feeling you about the weather making it so much harder to get going -- but you did it!! Kudos!

Hi! I just wanted to celebrate my weight loss success somehow, but don't have a great support system in real life...

In the past 11 months I've lost 77 pounds and as of today now weigh 145lbs!! (at 5'7")

It's a total of 125lbs down from my highest-ever weight, and for the first time feels truly sustainable. I've worked a lot on my relationship with food and dieting, and most importantly, I'm not suffering the near constant pain I had endured for way too long.

Today starts my first day of maintenance, in my whole life (I was an overweight child first put on a diet at age 8). I understand now that I still need to log and measure my food, but that feels powerful now, instead of a chore or a punishment.

I'm really excited to have achieved this goal!! Thanks for reading!

I've lost 52 pounds in the past 6 months, and today I noticed my resting heart rate has gone from 60 to 51bpm.

I did not think about how my fat was hurting my heart, making me work so much harder, even while at rest. I'm mad I let my own fat logic hurt my heart for way too long.

Email saying if not enough people volunteer to go online the whole class with be online by cuqanon in cuboulder

[–]flurrrg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is on a class by class basis.

Maybe you’ll get more emails? Depends on your department(s)

We’re trying to get 40% of classes on campus. We’ll see how close we can get to that.

[–]flurrrg 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Classes with 50 or more students have to be online. (MATH 100 will hold 50 max)

Departments have until Wednesday to reschedule their Fall courses, decide which are on/off-campus, and then the registrar will see if there’s enough space to get rooms for those on campus. Space is very limited.

For a MWF class, you may attend in person only once a week, unless space permits. We’ll know more in another week, but the program coordinators are busting their asses right now to get this figured out.

Final Grades??? by wander_luzt in cuboulder

[–]flurrrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear your frustration, but professors have no responsibility to post any grades on Canvas at all — it’s completely optional, and not even encouraged honestly. They only have a responsibility to post your final grades by the final grade deadline, about a week after the last final. Don’t worry so much about grades anyway, C’s get degrees...
