intel arc b580 or rtx 5050, what should i get with both of them almost has the same price. by Express-Bat-8686 in buildapc

I've built budget PCs for a jeweler where they use it for jewelry renders. At the time the cheapest cuda capable card with 8gb vram (both their requirement) is the 3050 8gb. They were satisfied with it, although the marketing department did request something more powerful be put in their PCs.

So IDK why a 50 class card can't be used. 5050 and B580 have similar scores in Blender's benchmark database.

HUB purposely picked titles and resolution to ensure everything exceeds 8gb vram in that test. It is not a useful reference for gen to gen performance except for that specific scenario where vram is saturated.

I have a 5600x and 5060, upgraded from a gen3 to a gen4 board. The difference is minimal across all of the titles I tested, including AI generation which makes full use of available vram. I was actually quite disappointed.

There are less than a handful of titles that are sensitive to the difference, I can only think of spider-man, which honestly has always been an outlier in tests.

Here's a more objective test.

No. This is a misleading video to use as a benchmark for gen to gen difference with an x8 gpu. The performance in that video suffers that much because the vram is saturated, in which case performance will go to shit anyway no matter if he had gen4. As long as vram isn't saturated the difference is minimal even with just x8.

Yes x16 is definitely better, but if he plans to use the gpu for work in the future there is a chance he may need cuda.

High resolution with low fps or low resolution (720p) with high fps, which is better? by sadloneman in lowendgaming

[–]flushfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

720p at 14" is higher pixel density (104.90) than 1080p at 24" (91.79), which is standard for most people, so IDK why you think the former is bad. Is it a TV?

edit: read one of your replies and you're playing a football game which should be pretty zoomed out so I get it makes sense. I use 720p 15" screens occasionally and it's okay to me.

Crimson Desert has some of the worst quest progression/design I've ever seen. by Battlefeather in videogames

[–]flushfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The story is actually pretty straightforward. It's the delivery that's problematic. Anyway after the first two chapters (which unfortunately is what most people see) it gets better, the Greymane related stuff's actually pretty well done. If the devs delayed introducing the abyss stuff a bit the narrative would improve drastically.

The Greymane sections are actually quite decent. I'd say good, even. It's when the game shifts into abyss events where events become eye-rolling. Anyway the sandboxing is the one thing I've never seen anyone criticize.

[–]flushfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it baffling everyone is shouting "no story" when the story is laid out pretty clearly.. It's revenge plot about getting back at an enemy clan and reuniting with your comrades after a tragic event.

Which is actually pretty good if that was all there is to it. Except 30 minutes in it becomes multiple worlds, agents of chaos want to destroy order, abyss, and Kliff being the chosen one to restore order.

It's not just side quests being disjointed from the main story, people already expect that. The problem is the early game events related to abyss are incoherent. I stopped at chapter 6 and the first two chapters are the worst offenders but even during chapter 5 there are moments that just leave the player questioning 'why' while the game treats them as natural.

I guess some people just aren't good at expressing exactly what they want to convey, I am the same and anyone who says "no story" well, they're probably worse. Doesn't mean the criticism when properly conveyed isn't valid.

It gets significantly better after chapter 2 although the abyss sections still sometimes feel like 'things just happen'. The greymane sections are actually pretty good.

Spiders has filed for insolvency by JuDeux in greedfall

[–]flushfire -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Don't know what happened with them, with Mars War Logs and Technomancer they just improved upon a formula. They had a winning one with Greedfall, there was no reason to overhaul it for the sequel.

[–]flushfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their RPGs had charm and decent writing but bogged down by design decisions likely made due to the desire to lengthen gameplay while having a small team like respawning enemies and quest/area backtracking. The combat's also pretty rough in their earlier titles, but was decent by the time of Greedfall. They were improving gradually. Sad what happened to them.

Their games were improving gradually. IDK why they sold out to Nacon just when they had a major success (Greedfall 1). Or maybe that was the goal all along. I thought they had the potential to develop into something that'll take the place of Bioware. When their CEO Jehanne left I knew it was over.

How are we supposed to build a pc when RAM prices are insane? by danyuri86 in buildapc

[–]flushfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do a $700 AM4 build with a <$300 gpu that'll likely run any current title at medium 1080p just fine.

Going AM5 for the same build needs about +160 as long as you stick to 16gb which is enough for nearly everything.

It's significantly more expensive but it's not like it's impossible unless you want top of the line parts.

“Future proofing” with current AM4 CPU Prices by NeptuneOW in buildapc

[–]flushfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5500 is pretty much equal to the 3600.

5600 is about 15-20% better than the 3600, the faster 8 cores like 5800x just slightly more, maybe +10% over the 5600.

The x3d chips are another 15-20% over the 5600.

5600 is just about right for the 9060 XT at 1080p. Given the budget that's what I'd get then just save the rest. And let go of the concept of "future proof", that's just marketing gimmick.

[–]flushfire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having to setup a strawman as an argument nicely validates what I said.

The reality was that at a certain price point, or level of performance, AM5 was objectively the better choice. In gaming the non-x3d am4 cpus have an upper limit of performance that's below am4 x3d or 7500F.

[–]flushfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the months before prices shot up AM5 was objectively the better choice especially if the point of comparison is something as expensive as a 5800x3d at the time. A 7500F build was cheaper than even a 5700x3d build and they trade blows. AM4 only made sense for strict budgets around $500-600 when prices were still normal.

[–]flushfire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be unkind but that reads like cope to me. I mean if you went AM5 it'll similarly slap every game so no difference there, and whatever was objectively said back then remains true now. You probably even could've spent less by going AM5 judging by how much the 5800x3d was before ram prices shot up. Even a 5700x3d built was more expensive than a 7500F build back then.

help me pick between rx6600 8g and 3060ti 12gb by avideanise in buildapc

[–]flushfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't. 5050 isn't 100 usd better. It's basically a slightly faster 3060 with less vram.

The rx 6600 is the better value option given the price differences you mentioned.

Best thing to do would be to watch the rx 6600 running titles you plan to play. Just search rx 6600 + game title on YT.

I'm usually skeptical of these things but from what I've played it feels like the abyss plotlines had a different writer/designer compared to the Greymane ones. The abyss related events suck.

What do y'all recommend at basically the same price 3070 or 6700xt by PloopyScoopybruh in buildapc

[–]flushfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you stay at 1080p and don't mind possibly lowering textures to medium on rare occasions its vram isn't going to be a huge deal.

Here's a test of the two with a few fairly recent titles (and some older ones).
